Just saw Django [MERGED~> !SPOILER ALERT!]

Nothing. You're right. It sucks.

Nah, you liked it.

Why?

I'm a dumb nigga that didn't get it, like it was boiling over with subtext and a deeper meaning that the average dumb nigga might have missed, so all I'm asking is for an honest critique of what my dumb ass didn't get.

Explaining anything to you would be like explaining Shakespeare to a toddler. Your brain isn't developed enough to have a conversation with me.

Go back to what you good at which is lurking, and bumming links from slam's threads like you've been doing the last five years..

LOL ... Shakespeare to a toddler?

That's the best you could come up with?

LOL!!!!!! Man, they teach Shakespeare in elementary school now. Other than the narrative style, that shit ain't complicated.

I'm literally laughing out loud at your dumb ass. Couldn't come up with a cogent response, so you insult my intelligence.

clown ass nigga.

I never caught why you said the story didnt make sense

You keep on projecting you little dumb ass nigga.. LOL

This nigga said "cogent" tho.. Who the fuck says that shit? How long was his bitch ass on Thesaurus.com before he came up with that?.. haha

Well that's about all the attention I'm willing to give a lurking ass, retard, wannabe contrarian troll..

Totally agree, I thought it was tremendously overrated. Cats here get so offended you don't see the genius in it like they do. " You must be the dumb nigga who can't follow the movie. " Like what is there to follow? It was baby food, with very predictable jokes. It just wasn't that funny, wasn't that mind opening, and the action scenes weren't that exciting. It's just overated, easily Tarantino's most one dimensional movie.

Soooooo true... I'm glad we had bookman here to put everything in perspective for us.

Wtf are these critics thinking?.. Wtf is the HFPA thinking?.. Dumb motherfuckers.. :smh:

you are the worst.. the same critics that nominated only white people from the movie? Your the same type of kid that says a rapper is hot cuz they sold units. When there's a heavy racial element involved, never trust white folks opinion. It's adjusted.

you are the worst.. the same critics that nominated only white people from the movie?

And he really tried to make that point.. Who else deserved a nom, bruh?.. No one has been able to answer that question yet.

It also got noms for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay as well like most overrated films do..

Think about that for a minute dude. It's a movie that was sold and promoted by its black characters, and none of them had parts big enough to even be worthy of rewards. A slave movie controlled by white characters coming and going. That alone is enough reason to think the movie is overrated. But for the record I think Samuel L. did an amazing job, but they would never allow him to be nominated because of the racial implications of the role he played.

Jacksons character and his last scene were spectacular because that message has always resonated with me. People like Jackson's Stephan, the oppressed who side with the oppressors and their oppression, have always angered me. His end was beautiful.

He was quick to leave when he thought it benefitted him, but once given the opportunity he was basking in his ignorance. People never change. They just die.

that shit was funny as hell when he blasted miss sally:lol:

SPOILER: Exactly....Stephen's character ignited all the venom against him that was deserved. Recall the conversation with Schultz when Django said "the only man lower than a house nigga is a black slaver.".... That is why it was so funny when Django told Stephen "you told me that these white folk can think of a thousand ways to kill a nicca. I don't recall you saying anything about knee capping...." POW....:lol::lol::lol:

And the vicious killing of Sally was unexpected due to her small role. Django: "Cora, say good by to Ms. Sally." KAPOW...blew that bitch smooth out the frame...:lol::lol:

Him and Leo had me dying.

Candie: "These men are customers"

Stephan: "This nigga here??"

Candie:"Yes, That nigga there?"

:lol::lol::lol:

masta why i gotta take lip from dis nigga here.

he gon stay in the big house?

why u lettin a nigga in the big house.

she got like 10 more days in the hot box.

nigga cried when leo died.

omfg

when he tried to creep out when jamie said yall niggas can leave

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Some of you brothers actually sat down and watched this shit?:smh: That's semi disturbing and amusing. "White people" still capitalizing off slavery. Crazy man.

watched it yesterday, imma jus say alot of the actors in this movie deserve Oscars, as for the movie itself it was a uncomfortable watch for me, it also has no replay value imo, im surprised alot of my fellow blk bgol'ers watched it so easy, for me i put it up there wit 1 of those fucked up movies like irreversible where its good cinema but uncomfortable to watch and will never watch again, also why didn't qt add some fucked up scenes to inglorious bastards?, why didn't he show jews gettiin ate by dogs and torture etc?

jesus christ. 14 plus pages of bickering and bitching. :smh::smh:

if you didn't like the movie take it for what it is stay out the thread and don't see the movie again or just take a walk to some fucking place.

if you liked it then you liked it. it was a movie based on a time period on how slavery was.

overall I liked the movie. im a fan of movies or shows based on slaves revolting Mandingo, Drum, Spartacus and etc. against owners. the mask part was funny as hell and I felt the film could've been more RAW and was definitely toned down.

Because them Jews got shot the fuck up hiding under the floor boards of a house like sniveling children; some of them really were children. The Inglorious Basterds antagonist that did that didn't even die he lived until the very end.

I didn't see no black kids die in Django Unchained. :dunno:

I think a lot of people were expecting the absolute worse depictions of slavery from this movie because of the hype and controversy surrounding the director, so I guess many of you sat uneasy throughout the film awaiting the worse. When really there was only one very horrible scene of torture that was built up, that being the man ravaged by dogs and even that took place off screen. Slavery was simply the setting of this movie it wasn't the main focus, Django's mission took precedent far too much for any depictions of slavery to even linger and scar my emotions. So it wasn't too hard to watch for me.

Quentin is really trying to sell this film to the black audience. There were all age groups in the theater with me, even look like a lot of Tyler Perry's fans.

Insider Hollywood Rules
'White' slave in movie:
Captors usually animal and beast like... society is desolate and almost apocalyptic and he uses his wit and bravery to rise above condition to become the king and messiah of the whole land ...
ex. Gladiator, Avatar, Matrix, Running Man, etc

'Black' slave in movie:
Captors (not all) are usually civilized and relate-able... Society functions normally... Hero's slave situation is made light of ... just surviving to the end is a miracle ... freedom is his reward ...

last I checked... they still sell malt liquor, menthols, and JESUS on the same block in every hood in America... I'm numb to being disturbed by the lack of social consciousness and sense of identity with our people...

IB didn't include a scene nor was it set at a concentration camp.

The slave plantation and the concentration are very powerful symbols of the total domination of whites over blacks and jews in those times. Both are places that housed the underfed, malnourished, beaten, tortured, raped and broken bodies and in alot of cases spirits of the oppressed people.

from what I understand tarantino wrote brutal scenes of whippings and rapes and humiliation and showed a number of them in Django Unchained..

But in Inglorious Basterds you NEVER saw depictions of this

or this

jewish women forced to undress before thier execution

nazi-shoot.jpg

Execution of the Jewish woman by the SS guard woman

Both of those locations are important features in illustrating the plight of blacks in america during slavery and the plight of jews in germany during WW2.

Thats an important detail he seemed fixated on showing for his black revenge fantasy film but somehow neglected to show in his jewish revenge fantasy film.

lets be really honest here..what do you all think the reaction from the jewish community would be if they saw scenes like that in a FANTASY REVENGE ACTION COMEDY film?

Do you think if it were done it would be done by a non jewish diector??

Honestly??

EXACTLY!!

Different movie didn't setting. We've seen concentration camps before in other WWII movies. They've greenlit concentration camps in dozens of films before I.B. why do you think they take exception with Tarantino a director who has been given a pass to express himself creatively however he wants in Hollywood?

Powerful symbols they may be but blacks weren't only killed on plantations, jews weren't only killed in concentration camps. What about the ghettos? You can't marginalize the atrocities and confine the horrors these people went through as only taking place in concentration camps.

Yes I DO think A FANTASY REVENGE ACTION COMEDY could be made by a non-jewish director.

Go see Django Unchained first and then compare and contrast and make your assessment on what you think his fixation was about.

Tell what film have Jewish people blocked from being made that involved depictions of concentration camps in any Action/Fantasy/Comedy genre?

More Jews died in Inglorious Bastards, than Slaves in Django Unchained...

and Django couldn't have been set anywhere else and still be effective? You said yourself that you didn't pay much attention to the setting as the story so it wasn't necessary for it to be set in a plantation but still it was..why do you suppose? QT said he wanted to make a western then why not..westerns are called WESTERNs for a reason...otherwise they'd be called SOUTHERNS:rolleyes: QT could have made a WESTERN and still portray the realism of the dynamics between blacks and whites without having to go to a plantation.

set in a concentration camp?? If that happens i'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm still on the fence..while I do like QT films this one turns me off on principle and if I do see it I won't be paying for it at least not in box office tix sales.

I never said blocked I said reaction but since we're looking at it I don't believe there has been a american made film set in a concentration camp that wasn't a somber drama..there have been foriegn films but not an american one to the best of my recollection in the last 30-40 years or so..

You can't compare a concentration camp to slavery.. Just stop it. Slavery lasted 300+ years. Slavery is a lighter subject being it was a way of life for centuries.

The Holocaust was an just an event in a way.. Slavery was an institution... It's totally different.

dude what the hell... 6 million women children and men being systematically exterminated by decree from the government for 10 years is not an event. And the fact that it was codified by the nazi government means it was an institution.

I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest of who suffered worst. I'm just saying that both are black marks in human history.

First of all Django Unchained is not a comedy it's an action, adventure, western, drama it has comedic elements of humor. It is in no way poking fun at or laughing at the historical tragedy that is slavery. Yes I do believe you can have comedic elements in a holocaust concentration camp WWII movie if it's done like Django Unchained. As long as you treat the tragedy with respect and accuracy and not insensitively trample over a historic event and try to pass it off as entertainment.

No Django Unchained couldn't have been effective anywhere else. It's a western based on the film style of shooting, it's a southern based on it's geography. Tarantino chose the south for his western/southern to make a statement about a part of American history that a lot of white people seems to ignore when dealing with the mindset of whites back then and the horrible treatment of black people and he chose to do it in a not so heavy-handed way.

It's not just about black vs white relations, cattle herders living side by side, you stole my cow where's the justice, yada yada in some western town in Kansas or wherever like most western movie conflicts. It's about a institution of servitude that was perpetuated by whites in the south to justify their racist superiority and perceived inferiority of black people. The plantation south was the perfect place to make this point as the movie deals with old racist mentalities that still linger that has rotted and decayed white people (i.e. this is symbolized in Calvin Candie's teeth). The idea of inferior blacks and slavery is the wrong kind of sweets for whites to devour.
