Just saw Django [MERGED~> !SPOILER ALERT!]

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

in other words i would not think of her as ignorant. I'd think of her as a slave. As ugly as what she was saying was.. It struck a stronger chord with me then most of kerry washington's entire part

That is because she was ignorant. Not in the way people CHOOSE to be ignorant and proud of it - she simply didn't know any better.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

I also see what your saying.. So let me rephrase. What she presented in her role left a lot more freedom for interpretation, and compromising of the situation she was in for the viewer, then many other characters. Thanks for making a valid argument, and not running to pencil dick net tactics like that other herb

Yea ok, I see what you're saying. But, need for name calling bruh, we're having a gentlemanly discussion here...

So what you're saying is she went Full-Slave?.. You don't thing Kerry Washington was as believable in her role because she didn't result to broken English, and other stereotypical slavisms?..

Believable wasnt the issue really. Her character was a lot more interesting. I've seen the beautiful slave damsel in distress in about 5 other movies. Not that i think any less of it.. I've just seen it already. I never heard Big Daddy used in a slave context before. That's the Tarantino style "eye candy" I was aiming for when I chose to see the movie. Wished there was more dialogue like that.. and less like Kerry Washington being whipped for tear jerk reactions. Not that there was anything bad about those scenes either, I've just gotten all the emotional response i can get out of them at a earlier point in my life. Now the hotbox that was different.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Well just let it go then.. The adjective would have worked just fine in that instance. And that's FACT.

I was about to let it go that's why I deleted my comment cuz clearly you don't know better...discussing anything w/ some of you is a pure waste of time

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

The issue with you is .. when did it become thoro to throw a bitch fit over a nigga's pronunciation at any point in black american history? That's real anal and a irrelevant point to the convo. It's nitpicking like a woman... The day i chastise a man for using a word in a wrong context (even tho i knew what he meant) shoot me in the head, cuz i've officially became an anal retentive prick or a fag. Ima hope your not either. So just let it go next time. Rick Spanish

I was in a theater with a large majority black people and when she called him Big Daddy there was a big murmur across the theater. I think a lot of black people weren't use to hearing such a popular black euphamism in our culture used by blacks to referr to white men. To a lot of black people it seems out of place. Although, I think I've heard the Big Daddy expression used in other slave stories before so I'm not surpised. Big Mama too.

That's what he's not understanding. Field ******s and House ******s spoke different, acted different. Broom-Hilda was a bilingual House slave... She wasn't going to react to the world, or speak like the Field ******s..

all the german she could speak did not make her anymore of an interesting character for me. That's my point. When the slave said Big Daddy you can tell people took a keen interest to what she had to say.. Which by the way, might have been more non subtitled words then kerry washington's whole part.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

I wont disagree with you about Hildi not being a memorable character, but nothing intrigued me about the Betina character. I was actually pissed because I felt she laid it on a bit too thick. The White folks in the theater thought her dialogue was a little too funny...

Yeah mine was like that too. Noooobody like that.

Re: Tariq Nasheed reviews 'Django Unchanged'

40 minutes and he said a whole lot of nothing.. That "Dr. King" thing he brought up was interesting, but he didn't expand on it, and explain what he thought QT's intentions might have been with it..

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

u present some good points, and to not make this reply even longer than the post, there were actually black cowboys who were free men during slavery so qt making a western with a setting in slavery isn't out of bounds imo. django was an avenger basically. he went nat turner on mutha fukas. but at the same time i wasn't comfortable sitting in that theater surrounded by white folks. it was like 98% white. and some of the sheit they were laughin at was NOT funny. i'm guessing their reason for seeing the movie was different from mine. some prolly were qt fans regardless, some like leonardo dicaprio, or jamie foxx. maybe the subject matter was of interest to some. and undoubtedly a small minority just wanted to see black folks in chains or in slave flicks, reminding them of the 'good ole days'

for whatever reason, it was still a good movie. i disagree with spike lee on it being disrespectful. in fact if u look at the film closely, the smartest, bravest and most confident people depicted in the film were all black

With the help of a racist/white supremacist suspect. Would he have done it alone like Nat Turner did with just a bunch of black folks?

Yes, I thought that was one of the more powerful moments of the whole 3 hour movie, for all the reasons mentioned. I never heard it in that context. So when Spike Lee says Tarantino is exploiting, I say, he expanded my mind in a way others hadn't. Which is why i always watched his movies. But past that I was pretty let down.. I was also emotionally twistd at the fact all the Mandingo's stayed in the cage and watched him ride off on the horse after he essentially revolted right in front of their faces

My mother is 88. She used to talk about how the white people treated the black people back in the day. She doesn't watch movies like that because they are too violent. If she was younger, I'd take her to see this movie. I think she would enjoy it.
Spike Lee is off base on this issue! I agree with what he said about Tyler Perry and even back when he said about the movie Driving Miss Daisey, what's so good about a black man driving a white woman around? I think he's wrong on this issue. "Django was (is) a bad Muh fucca!"

What the fuck were they supposed to do?.. He killed everything moving in like 5 seconds flat...

Re: Tariq Nasheed reviews 'Django Unchanged'

It will be on bootleg by next week. torrents

I know for a fact Im not seeing it in theaters.:smh:

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Guess I'm gonna go see it... all when I thought that Lord of the Rings joint was the best look to take my girl for a movie date.

Re: Tariq Nasheed reviews 'Django Unchanged'

Good shit by Tariq.

I can respect this from someone who actually saw the movie.

He gave some spoilers, and didn't kill the movie like he did with The Help.

I like how he demonstrated how white supremacy stayed intact with a 'black revenge' flick.

He gave a little too much credit to Dr. King and Jamie was no sidekick.

He was a freed slave who went through a period of growth throughout the flick.

Good job also on deconstructing QT and praising Kerry but how did HE missed how permed up Kerry was in the flick.

Also the distinction of the types of whites Jamie killed was pretty deep.

Bottom line: this movie is great entertainment but don't turn QT into the filmaker's version of John Brown because of it.

See this fair critique can be swallowed unlike Spike who used the Faux News method of criticism.

I understood it fully. Reminded me of that quote of Harriet Tubman saying she could have saved more slaves if they had only known they were slaves.

In other words, it didn't matter that there was no lock on the cage, because the locks were on their minds.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Couldn't have said it better myself. In my opinion, it was one of the best damn movies I've ever seen. I especially loved the part where they made the hooded white men look incredibly stupid. That shit was classic. LOL

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Forgot about that scene... Hilarious!!!

Man fuck that movie......White folks laughing too damn hard up in there....

Check out Tariq Nasheed's review to put his film in better perspective.

werd. i respect Tariq's opinion since he actually saw it. He raises good points. l think one of the biggest problems going into the movie is people actually thought a QT movie WOULD destroy the white power structure. That was never his intent. Gotta take this movie for what it was.

******* SPOlLER FOLLOWS ********

The scene django whipped the white boy was made the movie was worth it alone for me. Folks in the theater were going crazy. As was l
