BGOL Tablet buying guide

difficulty opening a tab in the background? i never had that issued. Dolphin has been great for me, especially since the last update. when i use to open Slams thread with a large amount a pics, scrolling thru them was laggy and rendering would be an issue. now, i scroll thru them with no issues, no having to wait for them to load either. its the only browser that doesnt give me that issue.

You're on an Asus...so maybe it's possible it's just specific to my devices and not the app but it was real annoying tho

at this point, whats the specific appeal of an ipad?

other than the bigger app store and coolfactor?

The iPad is just smooth as silk and the app store is huge.

I am gonna grab a Infinity and see how it compares to my iPad 3, I do a lot of air travel and I want the option of watching movies from my ext. hard drive.

tested a few movies from my externals over the weekend. i tried a usb 3.0 thumb drive and portable hd. both played the movies great with no issue.

That's a good question...I'd like to know too...I tried using Dolphin but I had an issue on both the Samsung and the Acer where I had difficulty opening a new tab in the background...sometimes I'd have to click the option multiple times for the same link before a new tab actually opened...and the stock browser crashes far too much

Wow. I thought I was going crazy. I had the same problem on my Prime. Shit drove me nuts.

Ya man glad to know it wasn't just me...I tried googling it to see if it was a common problem but didn't see anything

On another note...anyone that has used both an iPad and any droid tablet...are there any reading apps that handles PDFs the way iBooks does...PDFs on iBooks the text looks very smooth even when you resize the font if necessary...it handles PDFs the same way it handles epubs...on the droid tabs I use Aldiko which handles epubs well...but PDFs look choppy :dunno:

I ended up getting rid of my Prime. Besides that problem, there were a lot of other little things that were bugging me. I remember the nerds at MicroCenter telling me when I first got it that the Prime was a bust for Asus. Which is why they released the TF300 so soon after.

The Prime held its value to be real. I sold it for $420 and I only paid $450.

never used an ipad, but on android, you have two options (there are more, but these are supposedly the best), Repligo and EZPDF. I know EZPDF just updated to allow viewing epubs. i havent tested it out yet, but this app is great and has a whole host of features.

its a verizon issued xoom? if so, you may have to wait. thats something im not too sure about. I know if it was an official wifi xoom, then you would get the update.

Transformer Infinity has a great screen too.

thanks
that was one of the ironies of getting the xoom with 4g in the first place...paying more $$$ and watching the wi-fi only players get theirs updated before mine :angry::angry:

my first tablet though, when the tablet game was new. lesson learned

that ipad was looking nice today...i gotta get this xoom updated so i can forget my cravings for more new tech

i never understood why people signed contracts to own tablets, knowing they probably wouldnt even want it for the full two years. I upgraded from the xoom to the transformer infinity. After the Infinity gets jelly bean, i will see the Xoom.

yes, never again though if i can help it. beginning to look the same way with phones, especially after vzw is sliding in that tiered data plan. unsubsidized tech is expensive...but so are locked in contracts

that apple retina display is $625  looking back at what i paid for the xoom though...

to force the update on xoom:
1. go to setting / apps then hit the all button at the top
2. scroll down to google services framework and then press it to open
3. hit the clear data button
4. go to settings / about phone / system updates (you will notice the date will be 1969 or 1970 this is ok )
5. hit the check now button
6. xoom should show you the 4.1.1 update avaliable
7. hit install and enjoy

Thanks!!!! This worked for me on my WiFi Xoom.

Sold the ipad & picked up the Nexus 7. Absolutely love it! It's very responsive & the screen is very sharp. I have no issues with screen washouts while in direct sunlight either.

liking it better than your ipad?

Honestly yes. I didn't like how heavy the ipad felt especially when trying to use it while laying down. Also wasn't a fan of how closed down it was even though I jail broke it. Something as simple as removing pics I transferred over to it from my pc required me to do so through itunes. Personally the smaller form factor was also more convenient to me as well.

Apple is definitely a acquired taste, you either love it or hate it.

The new iPad is a solid piece but the closed architecture can be a hindrance to some.

Try perfectviewer, it has a pdf plugin and so far has worked better than any other pdf app I have tried, it is also very customizable.

I'll check it out...on another note the Acer is getting on my nerves between the short battery life and the net/flash vids always crashing...I am thoroughly impressed w/ the new 7" Galaxy tab I have tho...think I'll sell the Acer and get the 10" Galaxy tab

Xoom owners and others with Jelly Bean on their tablets, did yall know about this hidden feature in Jelly Bean?

I can't remember which forums I saw this on, but a hidden aspect of jellybean code allows one to create "user accounts" for different people on one device. All you need to do is follow the simple method below:

1. Open any terminal app
2. input the following code:

su
pm create-user __________

(put whatever you want on the blank line, this will be the user name)

On the different user account, it has a different lock screen, different launcher, but the same apps. Also, I noticed that the same user information shows up on all different user accounts.

And how would you access - view the new user screen?
Edit: never mind, go it, long press on power to switch between user profiles...

To list the users,
Su
Pm list-users

To delete the newly created user

Su
Pm remove-user 1

1 is the new id of a user. Primary is 0.

pdf on the playbook is nice, someone kindly uploaded a book on thailand, and downloaded it and reading it now, so far its a page turner..

I will say it over and over and over, if you have a blackberry you wont fully enjoy the experience untill you get a playbook...

I am in the market for an additional tablet with usb flash drive support, so I am following these reviews like a hawk on a rabbit.

You can buy my Acer from me  I was excited about the full usb flash drive slot but I don't even use it

Been test driving my new Infinity tf700, its a very nice piece, I picked up the full size USB adapter from Amazon for 10 bucks.

So far its performing as expected, I'm gonna save some movies on a flash drive for my next business trip.
