Stevie J Thinks Reading is A Waste

Wow...I don't see how this thread spent off of the original topic posted (meaning ignoring the content and disregard the sarcastic title of thread).:smh:

Props to the OP for the posting. As for it's content, how do so many here quickly find fault in an attempt to better our country? It has to start somewhere. While most are concerned with "Street Law" the posting clearly states that there will be additional funding for teachers to teach. Just because it said "especially math and science" doesn't mean the other subjects are being neglected. Look at everyone on this site....talking about which phone is better Samsung GSIII or Nexus. Correct me if I'm wrong but neither are built in America, and they're not America's product. Technology is increasing at a rapid rate in other countries but America's arrogance have people brainwashed that America is ahead of everybody else which in-turns leaves us stagnant. America hasn't built anything that surpassed the Blackbird (Lockheed SR-71) since the 60s, and what I mean by that is nothing truly topped that technology which kept America ahead of everyone (the leader in technology). Other countries are beginning to kick ours in the ass with technology and we have people in this thread worried about English and Social Studies?

I'm sorry, am I missing something? America's history? If I'm correct, Whites in America has taken credit for a large number of inventions and technological advances from the Blacks in America based on the fact of them not being able to read or allowed to be seen in the public's eye. They weren't allowed to even know that the truth was in their faces the whole time because of not being able to read (understand more than just the basics because a lot of things were worded in Legalese form). Did anyone forget the Tuskegee project/program and WHY so many were infected? Did many of you forget the Tuskegee Airmen and what they had to go through, even hear such comments like "those people are too incompetent to operate such sophisticated equipment"?

Simple math (meaning knowledge/awareness): the more ignorance and arrogance grow the further behind we as a people become. Once the educational level falls short, then we as a people, are FOREVER enslaved and subjected to whomever is educatedly in-charge. Yes, EDUCATEDLY...I've created a word that doesn't even exist. Why?, because times have changed (meaning things are calling for change and/or evolution) and I understand the definition of the base-word "educate", and it's addition "d" which puts it in a past-tense form then adding "ly" which converts it to an adjective meaning a description (being used to describe something), thus giving birth to a new word (a new adjective).

Now, can we all see how education plays a part and why it's so vital? What the article is stating is that they're attempting to better education by making more funds available for the use of compensating exceptional teachers that may teach and inspire the next possible innovative mind to contribute wonders to the world on America's behalf. It's stating that it also want to give a little bit more attention to math and science which are the bases of technology since the world is promoted through the media that it's technology driven. But again, maybe I'm missing something.

Its all about math and science, everything else should be optional. US history is useless, its written from THEIR POV. It's a waste. Of course English should be taught as well, mutherfuckers already cant put sentences together worth a damn.

And start implenting IT classes along with computer programming.

 that what i would consider the "new" vocational schools. Computer programming/IT along w/ critical thinking. Even though i don't put all my weight on the tech world but we need to balance it out because we need to start learning how to grow our own food also. So agriculture is high on the list as well.

If anybody has this documentary please post it, my teacher made us watch it in class. Very deep and it will scare the shit out you!

Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling

by John Taylor Gatto

An eloquent plea by a former New York State Teacher of the Year, Dumbing Us Down argues that contemporary public schools have become structurally pathological in their obsession with the control, surveillance, measuring, and ranking of young people. After 30 years of teaching in some of the best and the worst schools in New York, Gatto believes that the very structure of the institution defeats the best efforts of both teachers and students – as well as the best efforts of well-meaning reformers – and can only be changed from the outside, with the creation of new social forms for learning and integrating young people back into the real world of meaningful work and experience.

What is this idea of teaching less? History is useless if you like being stupid. The fact that so many people know so little about history as/is is how we end up with people in leadership positions that do the shit that they do and say the asinine, easily disproven shit they say.
Even if it's written from "their pov", it should still be learned and then opposing and/or different perspectives need to be taught as well.
You don't build a better society teaching the children less information.

Can't front I've avoided math & science like the plague...Interesting since my momz is a nurse & my pops an accountant, but I've visited other countries & the level of focus on math and science is major everywhere else. Those kids are definitely more advanced in the sciences than ours.
