DOCTOR Shaquille O'Neal-Congrats

Do you want my social security number too?

You're a fuckin moron, and you continuing to put down higher education, is just showing how stupid you really are.

The sad shit is that you didn't know when to quit when you were ahead.

And you having the audacity to compare paramedic school with a masters is moronic to the tenth power. For one there's different forms. A Masters in Engineering isn't the same as a Masters of Arts In Teaching. Two, you don't know the reason they dropped out. Are you actually alluding to the fact that you could have done what they did?

Only stupid people do that shit, well Jay-Z didn't finish high school so school doesn't matter. Well Bill Gates dropped out, so college doesn't matter.

It's a proven fact that with more education comes a higher salary. Of course there are always exceptions.

I simply asked how much you make. Its obvious that you really aren't that successful financially and holding on to your educational achievements.Im not dissing education but trying to prevent more bruthas from ending up like you.

:lol::lol::lol:

I guess I should expect stupid comments from a stupid person.

And If I told you my salary and profession, it would mean, what?

I guarantee I will make more during my lifetime than you, and I don't have to put my life in the danger doing it, but you think you're successful financially

I really hope you don't have kids, because your ideals, along with intelligence being partially hereditary, would mean your kids are fucked.

If he did were 16 classes, or 48 credit hours, why did they give him a PhD?

I did 39 credit hours plus a Theses for my Masters degree, why am I not seeing the wisdom in what Shaq has done??? I had to sit in every single class I did, take quizzes, do homework, write exams in front of a professor, and do labs in a lab environment...

How can you do a PhD by correspondence? I have cheated for 2 women and 1 man in my life; one woman whom I took classes for, the other I wrote all the papers for. The guy came from a French speaking West African country, was having a hell of a time with English, and the only way he got his As was that I wrote all his homework and papers at UT Arlington for him. The bitch is now an arrogant pharmacist in Houston, married to a white woman, driving a 2010 Mercedes Benz, and behaving as if he is the one who crossed the ocean in a single engine plane in 1927. I do not talk to the bitch.

Okay, this just occurred to me, and I'm kind of embarrassed that we missed this bit of irony here. He's ripping Shaq for taking a shortcut, or not doing it the right way, yet he helped others do the same thing.

Didn't miss it - just didn't give a fuck.:yawn2:

I wonder what Dr. Truth would say about all this......I mean....how long did it take him to become a doctor...all the hours invested in school/class....:D:lol::lol::lol:

Some people have so much jealousy of others and just dont give a fuck. A 7 foot black man who has made millions playing basketball, been in movies, had hit rap records, has a great post NBA career.....still decides that education is very important to him and his family and somehow some find a way to discredit him and his effort. Only black folks.....:smh: If the degree was so fuckin easy to obtain, why arent so many other NBA/NFL stars doing it?

Why are black athletes such attention whores when it comes to education?

Best believe UofP (where Shaq got his masters) is about to have a HUGE marketing campaign featuring Shaq; nice accomphlisment but UofP, like a lot of for profit colleges, charge a hell of a lot of money for tuition while getting > 80% of their revenue from federal funds (Pell grants, Direct Loans). You'd think this would be an issue with lawmakers until you dig deeper and realize the same lawmakers are on the board/huge shareholders of the publicily traded companies that own schools like UoP; basically all that Fed money is making them richer; shit is a racket that the general public is too blind/stupid to see.

Way too much hate in this thread :smh:

I hope most of yall understand that the white doctors in this country most likely cheated in med school.

All of the criticism in this thread stems from "I'm mad because he was able to do it and I wasn't." I'm not a Shaq fan, but that is the quintessential definition of hate. Some of you dudes are pathetic.

I'm curious. What was his dissertation on? Did he defend it? Was it published?

Shit is not hate; it's the matter of there being plenty of educated cats on here who have advanced degrees or know people who do and who know that getting a doctorate degree, the highest mark of education at the post secondary level, takes a lot more than teleconferences and online classes.

How businesses and CEO's use humor in the workplace.

His manager also got one along with him. I guess it was a buy one get one free special.

There were 2 people that had Master's degrees(one in Public Admin and the other im not sure) from UC Berkeley and UC Irvine that flunked out of my Paramedic school. Im not saying post grad school isn't tough, but im my experience the graduates that put the most emphasis on their education are the least successful. The more successful saw it as a tool and really downplay it as an actual achievement.I know everybody people on here will lie, but i'd wager that most of the cats on here in outrage because they "worked so hard for that graduate degree" aren't really balling. This is why those "student loan bailout" thread are always so packed with yall wanting handouts.

I'm not suprised that someone with a M.A.(most likely) in Public Administration flunked out of your paramedic school.

You do realize that there are some BULLSHIT degrees out there right?

I am reading the comments in this thread and I do not understand the heat that is being put on Shaq, ok so University of Phoenix has a tainted past but it has grown from its diploma mill status to being an accredited institution that has allowed working people the opportunity to achieve a college degree and still do a 9 to 5.

But what ever you have to say about Shaq - he didnt get his doctorate from U of P but from Barry University a longstanding Catholic University in Miami - so its not a fly by night school and though small has been around 70 years. The article described how he worked for his degree and took classes and did a doctoral thesis. He is now in the class of geniune celebrity earned PHd as Bill Cosby and Maykim Balik (Blossom), Brian May (Queen),Peter Weller (Robocop) to name a few.

I think Shaq is to be commended for his accomplishment. I place his Ed.D. far above the honorary doctorate most rich celebrities get, but slightly below the doctorate that most ordinary people complete the entire process to earn.

Shaq has an education doctorate like Bill Cosby (not a PhD). Usually, there are residency requirements for completing coursework until you reach the dissertation stage and become ABD (all but dissertation). In other words, you normally have to actually attend your classes in person, unless it’s an online school like Shaq received his masters from (University of Phoenix). So, Shaq did most of his coursework via satellite, video conferencing, and Blackboard.com. Also, Shaq didn’t have to do a dissertation, which typically takes several years after coursework and you do it by yourself. Instead, he completed a “capstone project” in which he interviewed CEOs on the use of humor in the workplace and reported back to a faculty panel.

As someone who has completed a PhD, I can tell you that the real challenge is writing and later defending your dissertation before a committee of professors who are ready to challenge your methodology and results and possibly decline to approve your defense if you don’t know your stuff. I have a friend who was almost kicked out of Ole Miss because he had trouble completing his dissertation.

But, I commend Shaq for pursuing his degrees instead of sitting on his money and getting into trouble like a lot of athletes. He seems like a smart and generally good guy and I don’t believe any of these schools just gave him his degrees. Though, I suspect he did have a slightly easier road and a bigger safety net than ordinary people would have (and why shouldn't he?). Look at all of the rich politicians like George W. Bush who have advanced degrees and really don't seem to have earned them as much as Shaq did.

Unfortunately we have a cancer among black people. There is a small group of black folk, regardless of nationality, that can not stand for other blacks accomplishing more than them.

Fuck all the hate congrats man. A black man gets a degree and it is an accomplishment and instead of a congrats people want to talk about the validity of his degree. He didn't have to pursue one but he did it for his mom. Congrats again.

Curious, what do you do and what is your income. Please don't lie.

Why are you always trying to figure out what people do and their income? You did this to me too, why would anyone want to tell a porn board that... You only ask b/c you know he won't seriously respond? So you first, please tell us:

1. Level of education completed (also which schools you went to)
2. Your profession
3. Your income
4. Your real name so we can verify all of the above would be much appreciated as well.

Why don't you practice what you preach, and then maybe some of us will follow suit...

Oh and by the way, CONGRATS TO SHAQ... regardless of the level of education (he won't be performing open heart surgery) he sets a great precedent... There are tons of people walking around that cheated through high school, college (rich kids paid poor kids to take their exams in college), grad school, etc... No one really cares after a point... If Shaq wanted to he could have done an Executive Extension like Tyra did at Harvard Business School, but he took it some steps further!!! Do we think Donald Trump was a Whiz Kid at Wharton--Or was he just a Legacy, See Bush and others... So... Moving on...

Almost missed this gem of a post... I think it took DR Truth at least 8 Pluto Years to complete his degrees, but I don't want to speak for him... When he teleports back to earth he'll respond himself.

...Exactly the point. Shaq sets a great precedent. I appreciate what it represents, the school and method of getting the degree isn't as important in my book...

Great post my friend...

Traditional Colleges are outliving their usefullness - there are people like the innovator from Khan Academy and this guy (Ben Nelson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Nelson_%28businessman%29 ) lays out a new educational college model that takes on the Ivy leagues based on new technology to make education a far more global and less costly experience for the top students of the world.

From his wiki page: Nelson graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics with Honors

I knew what I'd find before I even searched (Peep how he mentions WITH HONORS)... The irony of all these guys that are trying to make money off education by recommending their 'alternate' methods for education all have stellar degrees... The other guy pumping this stuff graduated from Stanford among other schools...

...You want to work in Venture Capital and get funding like they did for Snapfish, you better be rocking some stellar ass degree for those white boys to even take your call...

...The irony is that you must be from a great school to be taken seriously when you diss education... Hilarious... And these guys are hypocrites who didn't practice what they preached...

If that pudgy motherfucker had never gone to Wharton he wouldn't have even gotten his first job... Scrub...

I've heard guys who were paid and didn't have iVY degrees themselves SPECIFICALLY ask for ivy league people when looking to fill spots in their organization...

cats getting degrees off fame not unusual but not as commendable as regular joes who bust their ass to accomplish their PHD

Paraphrased: "There are plenty of cats on the board that had to work so hard and struggle to get their advanced degree that they're pissed when a rich dude uses his resources and manages to get a degree even though they don't know about the curriculum our what kind of work he had to put in while managing multiple careers."

Nevermind it could be a good example to young black people that education is important regardless of your station in life. Nevermind that Shaq isn't the only person enrolled at Barry University and thousands of people do the exact same thing.

You can't tell me that the criticism in this thread doesn't stem from people that are mad, jealous, or hating that they didn't have the same opportunitied as Shaq.

And for the record, I have a doctorate level degree (JD) and actually dislike Shaq strongly, so I'm not a Shaq apologist or a person that can't relate to achieving the "highest mark of education at the post secondary level"
