He had life and death battles at lightweight with good but not great comp and at 37, 5 yrs Manny's senior, he was thought to be done, especially fighting at welterweight. In fact, I remember you thinking he was going to get slaughtered but NOW he was great competition.
You must be kidding thinking Hatton or Antonio had a real shot and you didn't think that about Juan in the third fight.
Cotto was still recovering from the beating he took from Margarito and had a tough fight that summer with Clottey AND they had him fight at a catchweight of 145 to weaken (so said Freddie Roach publicly) so he can't be listed as "tough comp".
And if you thought Oscar was going to be tough at 147 for Manny why do you not count his as tough for Floyd at 154?
Yeah, I felt Hatton had a shot. He was fighting at his proper weight. He had no excuse and was still the number 1 140 pound fighter. Antonio had him with his huge size advantage, and Oscar chose the weight. He still should have been able to compete but killed himself to make the fight. Cotto signed the contract. I still thought he would have been competitive. Juan is still a damn good if not great fighter. He proved it in in the lost. He is the thing with the weight issues. Catchweights have always been apart of boxing. If a fighter doesn't think they can compete then they should fight at that weight. Hatton was stupid as hell to fight PBF at 147. But he signed the contract and got beat. That boxing for you. Hatton and Oscar were the only fights since Chico PBF had that should have been competitive. But he proved he was better in the ring. I like to see him do that with Sergio, but I swear I hope it isn't with Sergio trying to make 150. That is a recipe for disaster.
