I don't think that dynamic is in the forefront of folx consciousness when it comes to bw/wm interracial marriage, but that is basically the reason why we have the "1 drop rule", to control the economics and social mobility of blacks. In all other countries, the father's race/nationality determines the race of the child, in America, in order to keep the slave trade going, we had laws so that even if the father was white, if the mother was black, the child was black and therefore property. I think it may play out in the background of our social fabric/social dynamics, meaning since it is long standing taboo people "know" it "shouldn't" be done, but most won't be so conscious as to say "I won't marry a black woman because it will benefit the black community economically." This women "taking half" is modern day, previously the benefit would be in the form of inheritance and wealth being passed along to the children.
There was a study done a while back (Sorry, no I don't have the link) and, if I recall properly, of the various interracial marriage combinations bw/wm were either the most durable/long lasting or second most behind wm/aw.
Marrying for love is modern day also. Historically marriages consolidated power/forged alliances among other things. Love was a distant second, third or forth. If a man or woman married out of their class they could be shunned by society or cut off from their families and their wealth. Wealthy women had some protection to a degree, their fathers often vetted the men they were to marry, and a man didn't propose marriage unless he was able to provide financially for his bride and keep her in the way to which she was born accustomed. Poor folx were an entirely different matter.
