[[[♦♦♦ OFFICIAL UFC 140 ♦♦♦]]] Jones / Machida / 205lb strap - Toronto - Dec. 10

http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread.php?t=636811&highlight=UFC

This is going to be one of the best UFC fights of all time I hope. 2 of the 3 unorthodox fighters in MMA go at it tommorrow. Being unorthodox makes fighters stand out and better from the rest from what I have seen. Also, the rest of the card is good as well.

Even though both fighters are unorthodox I think Jones has this. But one thing is Jone's chin. I am not too up on if his chin is very good or not cause he is usually dishing out the punishment. But I would say he has little speed over Machida. He has the reach over Machida. He has a little power over Machida.

Machida looks like he put on some muscle. It won't help him in this fight though.

I got Jones, Mir and Tito. I think all three main fights should be surprisingly good.

True ... Machida has put on good muscle mass since late-April 2011. Should be an interesting stylistic match-up in there. JONES is aggressive. MACHIDA is great scoring points and w/ his counterattack.

TITO looks to retire in 2012. Hopes to get a 3rd bout with Griffin next year.

LIL NOG hits hard.

BIG NOG is much healthier now compared to late-December 2008 against MIR.

MIR has looked good in recent years. His only achilles heel(s) = CARWIN / LESNAR.

I wanna see how HOMINICK looks in there against JUNG.

The fans are hoping he fights ... just like his bouts with EVANS / ORTIZ / JACKSON.

He was careful in there with Rua in their first go-around, and then got blasted in their 2nd when Rua won the title off him.

For real though ... the 205lb strap sure has bounced around over the years.

LIDDELL / JACKSON / GRIFFIN / EVANS / MACHIDA / RUA / JONES.

That's just since spring 2007!

White Announces Release of Torres Following 'RapeTweet

Bantamweight Miguel Torres has been released by the UFC, according to UFC President Dana White.

White revealed to Sports Illustrated on Thursday that the former World Extreme Cagefighting 135-pound champion wie' ll no longer compete for the world's largest promotion.

“Miguel Torres has been cut from the UFC and his career with us now is over,” White told SI.com.

Known for possessing an active Twitter handle, Torres was released following one particular tweet on Wednesday.

"If a rape van was called a surprise van, more women wouldn't mind going for rides in them," Torres wrote. "Everyone likes surprises."

The news comes on the heels of a pair of controversial comments made by UFC fighters about sexual abuse. Roughly one month ago, former 205-pound champion Forrest Griffin tweeted that “rape was the new missionary.”

According to White and Griffin, the fighter's questionable statement was intended to express his disbelief at how commonplace the crime had become after viewing multiple television media reports on various rape cases. Griffin later apologized for his comment and made a donation to the Las Vegas Rape Crisis Center.

Yesterday, another former UFC light heavyweight champion made a separate controversial remark at the UFC on Fox 2 press conference in Chicago.

Main event competitors Rashad Evans and Phil Davis began trading barbs near the end of the event, each predicting how the fight would go. Evans assured “Mr. Wonderful” that he would beat him up standing, predicting that the former Penn State University wrestler would go to his grappling base to avoid the strikes.

In articulating that point, Evans made a reference to the widely publicized Jerry Sandusky case, in which the former PSU assistant football coach stands accused of sexually abusing multiple underage boys during his time at the institution. “I guarantee you'll be the first one to take a shot, because I’m going to put my hands on you worse than that dude did to them other kids at Penn State,” Evans said.

White said he spoke with Evans after the press conference and the fighter explained his intentions behind the comment.

“Rashad walked me through what he did...Rashad wrestled for Michigan [State]. [Davis] went to Penn State. [Evans] wanted to slam [Davis] and Penn State,” White told SI.com. “Rashad is sorry for what he said. He truly is. He said it in the heat of the moment. He definitely took the wrong choice of words. He knows it, and I know he knows it.”

Regarding Torres' tweet, White said that he did not see the humor in the bantamweight's apparent joke.

“There’s no explanation for that. There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that,” White said. “And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me.”

see this is why alot of cats really dislike White his bias is clear as day...:smh:

Torres has not been fighting the same way he did when he dominated WEC...he became safety first type fighter & very boring....Dana of course would cut him this was the perfect reason to dump him...

but you know he would never cut Griffin or (Big opponent for Jones) Evans for the same comments...

dude is a younger Bob Arum :smh:

I am so erratic and inconsistent with my picks. No wonder I am not a gambler. I don't have the heart for it, nor the pocketbook with my ups and downs.

First 6 prelims tonight?

CORRECT
INCORRECT
CORRECT

Also, my overall MMA picks (various organizations) throughout 2011 so far = Picks: 257 CORRECT / 153 INCORRECT 62.7%

That's what ... a C? I need to up my game to get to a C+ grade  - that's why we love MMA, right? You never fucking know in this sport.

I am not crazy about Frank Mir. I never really liked him for some reason. I would rather see Nog take him out but last time Frank Mir easily beat NOg so I don't know about tonight. If Nog can't pull it off he should retire.

Yup. Back in 2007 Chuck was the last guy to successfully defend the title more than once.

Yeah - it's amazing how it has bounced around. Definitely one of the most competitive divisions in the sport with it taking 4 years for someone to successfully to defend it in Jones.

The heavyweight division has bounced around as well with the champs and interim champs in the likes of Sylvia, Couture, Lesnar, Mir, Carwin, Velasquez, and Dos Santos and the injuries that have kept certain guys out of action (hence the interim straps).

The other divisions have been more or less locked up with 135 and 145 being newer and having dominant guys like CRUZ and ALDO ... 155 having a durable little guy in EDGAR ... GSP ruling 170 since spring 2008 ... Anderson running game on everyone since 2006/2007 ... etc.

He cut Torres because they just got two or three real bantam stars from TUF..and Torres has been fighting like shit ever since he got knocked out...Twitter just gave a great excuse to seal his fate..that's why dumb asses need to stay off of there
