Official BREAKING BAD Season 4 Discussion Thread 10p SUNDAYS

 Man comes out with half his body and face blown off.

The news reporter said 3 people were caught in the blast.

While I get what you are saying and agree to for the most part... the man also walked out the blast and straighten his tie before he fell. Having him survive is taking shit too far but this wouldn't be the first show that went cartoonish. Either way I'm watching and hoping for solid send off.

Oh yeah I thought the same thing.

I had the :hmm: face on after watching him walk out after the door and debris from the explosion blew across screen.

Afterwards though I thought it was a nice touch and if anyhing it added to the character.

Per Eatugood1's link and a Q&A with creator Vince Gilligan.

Q.

Did the effects crew from “The Walking Dead” help out with the scene where Gus meets his demise?
A.

Indeed we did have great help from the prosthetic effects folks at “The Walking Dead,” and I want to give a shout-out to Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger, and KNB EFX, those two gentlemen and their company, because their shop did that effect. And then that was augmented by the visual effects work of a guy named Bill Pulaski and his crew, who digitally married a three-dimensional sculpture that KNB EFX created with the reality of the film scene. So you can actually see into and through Gus’s head in that final reveal. It’s a combination of great makeup and great visual effects. And it took months to do.
Q.

Months?
A.

Really, months. That one shot where the explosion happens, and then you dolly in on Gus, is actually two shots: the explosion happened in one take, and then the shot revealing Gus – it took me 19 takes to get it right. But we did use Take 19. That was no fault of the actors. That was me being a little persnickety as a director. The big, bravura part of the effect is obviously Gus’s face, what’s left of it, but to me it’s just as amazing how the visual effects guys married the two shots together so that there’s literally no seam between. There’s smoke, but you don’t see the cut in between. It’s just amazing what they’re capable of doing these days.

Q.

What about the closing shot of the episode, the poisonous plant growing ominously in Walt’s backyard. Is it meant to suggest the possibility that he might have poisoned Brock, or is it meant to say he definitely did it?
A.

To me it is fairly definitive. But there’s the old Billy Wilder quote, which I am going to misquote, that if you give the audience 2 plus 2 and let them add it up to 4 themselves, they’ll love you forever. I abide by that. The audience is plenty smart, and I like giving them as little as possible, and letting them do the math themselves. It’s such a shocking moment, that you find out the full badness, if you will, of Walter White, and you learn, truly, what he’s capable of: these monstrous acts, up to and including poisoning a child to further his and his family’s survival. To me, a moment like that is best told delicately. It’s best to not hit the audience over the head with it but to let them do the math themselves.

The creator of the series has said time and time again that it will all be ONE SEASON.

Good shit. Hopefully they don't have a break DURING the fucking season like so many other series over the years. I.E. - Prison Break / Lost / The Sopranos, and more. It'll be cool watching it run 16 straight over 4 months. As we got 7 in season 1, and 13 / 13 / 13 from 2 - 4

Gus is dead
and
Walt poisoned Brock.

wow was i wrong
gus let that personal vendetta get him killed, his only weakness
and walt actually did poison the little kid
WOW
he actually did it
:smh::smh:
he's gonna die next season

Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo @ Gus face...yooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Walter stepped up BIG fuckin time...JEEZUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2nd to last scene where Walt was talking to Skylar was pretty interesting. Skylar still has no fucking clue what kind of man Walt has become. She ignorantly asks Walt if he had anything to do with the explosion at the old folks' home. And when she asks what does it all mean, Walt tells her that he has won. Before Walt's focus was on survival, but now he's taken things with Gus personally.

Come next season, Skylar will know how dirty Walt's hands really are. In the span of a few hours, he killed 5 people. He's adding onto an already impressive body count number.

dAMN WE ALL KNEW wALT WAS GONNA TAKE gUS OUT AROUND THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON BUT DAMN i FELT KINDA BAD THO FOR THE HOMIE gUS...aaaw man I forgot to take caps lock off my bad y'all

Ya last season will be Walt vs. friends and family...Jesse Skylar and Hank...

How the fuck is Gus threatening to take out his entire family not about survival? When he said "I won", he was indirectly saying that they were safe. I don't see a "personal" angle there. Walt would have never tried to kill Gus if he didn't habitually try to kill him first.

I would like to see another season but I wouldn't be mad if they left it at the last episode.

Na Walt has to pay...you don't do all that shit and "win"...Ted's death may end up a problem for Walt too

I agree w/ all this...I still think Jesse may somehow find out about the death of his girl...maybe Walt gets arrogant again and shoots off @ the mouth...or Ted's death might come back to bite him in the ass...he might be looked @ as a suspect (ie jealous husband if someone finds out Skylar and Ted fucked)...but ya I agree w/ all your other points as well

Interesting scene where Walt was spinning the gun on the patio table; that was the reveal as the third time he spun the gun it pointed at the poisonous flowers in his backyard. So from this point on somewhere, Walt found time to go poison Brock. It was never revealed what happened to the laced cigarette. That shit may still be out in the field.

The unresolved issues for the last 2 seasons are:
The Cartel
Mike is gonna come back eventually
Hank vs Walt (inevitable)
Jesse vs Walt if Jesse finds out Walt is responsible for Brock's condition
Walt's cancer and his family's finances (the original reason he went this route). Walt wanted to provide for his family in case of his death. His cancer seems to have been successfully treated. Will it return? Will he feel the need to still "provide" now that he is seemingly healthy? Will he cook and distribute to make up for the lost money that Skylar gave away.

Ya man...I felt bad for him...Gus was always about maintaining his demeanor even in the face of death...they ain't had to blow out that nigga eye socket and half his face...goddamn man

Walt has been more focused on Walt than his family. Just like Scarface, his ego has told him he is the man. If he was really, really concerned about his family, would he take the risks that he's been taking for so long now? It's all about Walt now. And Walt has to win. He said that Gus was 5 steps ahead of him which he used to bait Jesse, but he truly knew it as well. Throughout the entire show, Walt has been smarter than everyone else. Gus was the one person who outmaneuvered Walt up to this point. That made it personal.

The only way Jesse will find out all the shitty things Walt has done is if Walt tells him either by accident or out of spite/anger (most likely situation if this occurs). And if Walt does tell Jesse, he is doing it to manipulate him for some purpose.

In order to predict how the show turns out, look at Vince Gilligan's reference for Walt's transformation – Scarface. Tony Montana was his own worst enemy even though he was taken out by the cartel. Walt is going to die at the end of it all.

I don't think Skyler will be able to handle Walt as being a murderer even tho it was his life and his family's life vs. Gus...she just won't be able to see it like that based on the stupidity of her character...she may even blame Walt when Ted's death comes out and that will be another problem...I hope Walter fuck around and kill her...even if it's an accident

When he fell you could see Gustavo's leg laying ion the floor:eek:

I thought that was the black guy leg or the wheelchair dude...how does Gus walk out a room w/ only 1 leg dude...he died from the massive head trauma (huge understatement on my part)...shit his shoulder was barely touched...but that blast to the face...damn damn damn that shit is gonna haunt me...I didn't expect that...

Ya I agree if Jess do find out it will be bcuz of Walt...I don't think Jess will be as much a problem as Skyler and Hank...I think Jess already suspect Walt of the plant shit but realize it was for the greater good w/ having to get Gus out the way...it's amazing in the flick of an eye how Walter regained control and Jess is back to being a pawn again...I hope Jess' character continues to progress on the track that he was on this season...for a split sec I thought Walter was gonna shoot his ass there @ the end

I meant the wheelchair dude, i thought his name wss gustavo

"I won" / FACE OFF / Gus' face off, literally, etc.

Gus vs. Walt

Battle of the minds

Each trying to 1-up each other

Similiar to Hector and his people vs. Gus and his partner. Hector takes out Gus' partner years back (Hermanos). Gus retaliates in present day and takes out his whole fucking crew in revenge (Salud). Walt's brother-in-law takes out Hector's 2 nephews. Hector isn't cool with either Walt or Gus by any means, but he despises Gus much further due to lambasting his whole fucking squad.

Gus threatens Walt and his family, and tries to pit him and Jesse against each other. Walt wants some peace of mind, so he takes out Tyrus and Gus. Hector goes along with the plan and does the KAMIKAZE PILOT murder-suicide plot and pulls it off effectively as he doesn't have much to live for or look forward to moving forward (Face Off).

you forget that bitch dirty too

she got her boss killed or in a coma we dont dont know
If it wasn't for Skylar giving away all the cash, Walt wouldn't have to go back to cooking and now distributing that blue meth. If he walked away from cooking, he'd only have a 200K or so to show for it. He's still paying for Hank's rehab and the car wash isn't profitable as of yet. Dude has to make and distribute the product now. Doubtful he'll get in bed with another distributor after the whole Gus fiasco. She is unknowingly responsible for Walt's continuing to break bad.

Sidebar: Her boss's death was one of the hokey parts of this season.

Ya but that was unintentional...she didn't say go and kill him...based on what we have seen I sincerely doubt she will react in Walter favor...bitch been a nag since day one...I'd quicker expect Walter to end up killing that bitch than her "understanding" why he had to kill those men in the explosion...and that bitch always talking about calling the police...@ the very least I think she will leave him...dirty $$$ is cool but not every bitch can fuck w/ a killer...you saw how she tripped out after his "I am the danger" speech and that was just words...bitch will freak out over this esp. if she think he killed Ted...she still got feelings for that nigga...that's why she made that dumb ass choice of giving him the $$$...ya she said it was to protect herself but that bitch clearly wasn't thinking straight

True - Ted's fall is gonna come back into the story in season 5. That shit will be investigated no doubt (paralysis or death, either or). Especially with him holdin' that $624k from Big Titty Blonde. Do they ensure it goes directly to the IRS immediately? How do they explain it? Tie things up, etc.

Something's gonna happen with Saul as well. Dude was about to break out. He had his secretary shredding all his paperwork. He hooked up Walt with the dude to get the White Family new identities. He set up the IRS payment for Skylar. Now that Gus is gone, will he simply return to his practice like shit is all good?
