UPDATE THA CARTER IV SELLS...1,000,690 copies it's first week

UPDATE
Lil Wayne may have spent some time away in prison, but his fans never left him.

According to Hits Daily Double, Weezy's new album 'Tha Carter IV' has moved 1,000,690 copies it's first week out.

Coming in a distant 2nd is the Red Hot Chili Peppers with 232,320 units moved.

Rounding out the top five are (No. 3) Adele '21' - 155,516 (No. 4) Kanye West & Jay-Z 'Watch The Throne' - 80,897 (No. 5) David Guetta 'Nothing But The Beat' - 55, 375.

Lil Wayne's feat makes him the only rapper to ever sell one million copies the first week with two separate albums. 'Tha Carter III' sold 1,000,500 it's first week.

50 Cent also sold 1 million the first week with 'Get Rich Or Die Tryn' and 'The Massacre,' but because 'GRODT' shipped several days early it was only credited with moving 872,000 copies it's first week.

Congrats to Wayne, that's a big accomplishment.

Whether you hate it or love it, Lil Wayne is the king of hip hop right now. Hell when I was listening to the radio on my way home from work, they only played young money stuff.

:smh:

Nigga, record sales does not make you the king of hip hop. Just means your shit appeals to more than just hip hop fans. Ross is the undisputed king of hip hop :gun06:

Nah, but for real I like Wayne but this nigga is not the king of hip hop.

Best rapper alive!!!

Less than three weeks after the U.S. iTunes Store's single-week album sales record was broken by Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Watch the Throne," it's been smashed again -- by Lil Wayne's new "Tha Carter IV."

In the clash between Lil Wayne and Jay-Z, Wayne has come out -- at least briefly -- on top.

During its first week of release, Tha Carter IV -- Wayne's first album since being released from prison, where he spent eight months incarcerated on gun charges -- is projected to sell as many as 900,000 copies, Billboard.com reports.

Tha Carter IV's performance obliterated that of Jay-Z's latest effort, Watch the Throne, a collaborative album with Kanye West that sold 436,000 in its first-week. Watch the Throne's performance was as disappointing as the album, a disjointed, undercooked exercise in bombast that, aside from three or four tracks, could've used a few more months in the incubator.

Billboard also reported that, in addition to dominating overall sales, Tha Carter IV sold 300,000 iTunes downloads, breaking the record for most downloads in a single-week, previously held by -- wait for it -- Watch the Throne, which sold 290,000.

Making this even more of a victory for Wayne: Watch the Throne was available exclusively through iTunes for the first four days after being released on August 8, while Tha Carter IV could be purchased both physically and digitally starting on August 29.

These numbers add an even sharper edge to an already tense relationship between Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. On an early single and Watch the Throne bonus track "H.A.M.," Jay-Z takes a shot at Wayne's wealth, saying that he's got "baby money"--also a reference to Wayne father-figure Bryan "Birdman" Williams--and that he "ain't got my lady money," his lady being Beyonce.

In response, on C4 track "It's Good" Wayne threatens to kidnap Beyonce. It's pretty much his best verse on the entire album, which, though not as lackluster as Watch the Throne, doesn't even approach the vertiginous, maniac highs that have distinguished Wayne's best work in the past.

Speaking of best work, Wayne still fell short of his first week numbers for Tha Carter III, which sold just over a million in mid-June 2008.

The game is in a bad state when the word "greatest" and " lil wayne" is mentioned in the same sentance.

No it's about both. Wayne has the sales and the "streets". Nobody is playing Eminem in clubs or on urban radio. To be "king" of hip hop you need both.

Wow I knew he would sell alot didn't think he could sell a milli again...

Happy for him but album sales don't mean shit when it comes to album quality and this is the worst Lil Wayne Album since 600 Degreez:smh:
