Don't feel bad if you've missed the first boat to acquire a $99 tablet computer, the HP TouchPad sale is expected to continue this week according to the company's social media manager who says a second wave of the firesale will begin "early in the week."

Where did you get this knock off stuff from?

I ordered form amazon

It didn't say HP it seemed as if it was a remake or off brand

1 "FB454UT Smartbuy TouchPad QUALCOMM Snapdragon APQ8060 1.2 GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless 9.7" IPS TFT 1GB RAM 16GB"
$99.99

Read the discription it doesn't say HP

We discussed this three pages ago. It's HP. they just have the serial number up for it instead of the "official" tag HP Touchpad. I think that's why their link stayed up so long.

If you look up FB454UT it is the make and model number for the HP. It's the same thing and it's been on Amazon with that seller since 6/19 that way.

I really hope so because I ordered the same shit. Just awaiting the shipping confirmation as I already got the order conformation.

A few best buys near me have em but I thought they were supposed to be $99 rather than $149?

149 is for the 32gb. 16gb is 99. I see they got some at a best buy near me. I got people in the area going for me right now!

If I get it I'm canceling that amazon order. I only need one. :smh:

BGOL talked me into this shit. I already got an ipod touch and an ipad which are essentially the same shit. :smh:

Is the $99 HP TouchPad Worth It?

HP has just slashed the prices on its TouchPad series of tablets, where by "slashed" I mean "dropped through the floor." The 16 GB model is now $99, and the 32 GB model is $149 -- when and where they're available. The "Buy Now" link that used to be there on HP's page, along with a list of retailers, is now gone, replaced with a "Notify Me When Available" link ... and HP's servers are being hammered so hard at the time of this writing, that you may not even be able to get your request to be notified through to them.

Scarcity's a well-known principle for increasing demand, though, so as long as you're waiting anyway now might be a good time to step back and ask yourself: Am I really going to get $99 to $149 of value out of this thing?

Slow and sluggish

That's the almost universal consensus of the HP TouchPad's reviewers, according to Marco Arment. The reasons are technical (its multitasking model overloads easily, and its apps are built using high-level web technologies), but the upshot is that despite its dual-core processor, it's slow and crashes often, requiring frequent reboots. It also has worse battery life than the iPad.

Few apps

Android tablets have very few apps designed specifically for them, but at least they can use the hundreds of thousands of Android smartphone games and apps in the Android Market. HP Palm phones, on the other hand, only have a few thousand apps made for them. And the TouchPad specifically? Only a few hundred.

No support

There will be tech support for you, certainly. But what about OS and app updates? IPad owners regularly have new features added to their tablets via these updates, which could include new levels for games or the ability to run more than one app at once. But unless HP's WebOS suddenly sees new life in another company's hands -- and app developer attention doesn't completely dry up now that the TouchPad's been abandoned by HP -- it's doubtful that there will be many updates for the TouchPad.

Other options?

Other tablet manufacturers don't seem to be faring much better than HP is. They haven't given up yet, but they're resorting to massive price cuts, sales, and promotions to move their back stock. It seems that most people just want an iPad, and only enormous discounts will convince anyone to buy anything else. (Which begs the question: What will Black Friday look like?)

There won't be another chance to pick up a new HP TouchPad this cheaply, so if you really want one then get it while you can. But if you're just going to buy a new tablet next year (or next month), it might be best to wait.

Consumers Snatch Up Cheap H-P Tablets

Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ - News) Co.'s decision to drop the price to as low as $99 for its TouchPad tablets touched off a weekend buying rush that the company called "overwhelming."

The sudden interest came after H-P said it was discontinuing its tablet and smartphone efforts, after disappointing sales and unfavorable comparisons to Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL - News) Inc.'s iPad and iPhone. H-P cut the price of its least-expensive TouchPad to $99.99 from $499.99. The price on a greater-capacity version was reduced to $149.99 from $599.99.

The Palo Alto, Calif., company said it is still exploring alternatives for webOS, the well-regarded software that powered the TouchPad.

H-P's decision to jettison remaining inventory at rock-bottom prices instantly became the talk of the technology press. Blog posts were quickly published with rolling updates containing lists of stores and online sites where the device was still available. Demand was so heavy that by Sunday, the website slickdeals.com was filled with "sold out" notices in red next to such popular retailers as Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN - News), B&H Photo, Fry's Electronics, Target (NYSE: TGT - News) and Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - News).

A saleswoman at a Best Buy (NYSE: BBY - News) Co. store in San Francisco said all the TouchPads in the Bay Area were sold out by Saturday night.

Eager customers scouring retailers turned their attention to stores that hadn't yet dropped the TouchPad's price, and reported multiple calls with sales representatives and methods for getting the price reduced. "If you buy at full price, they will price match in 10 days to their own store if price drops," a person wrote about Barnes & Noble Inc. The retailer still was charging $407.95 for the TouchPad, of which slickdeals estimated there were 14,000 in stock.

Others consumers debated whether the device was a good value even at the lower price. "They are utterly worthless now," a person commented on a cnet.com article about the sale. "Amen," responded another.

Others disagreed, starting a Twitter campaign called "#saveWebOS" with pleas to keep the platform going and tweets from customers who had been awaiting H-P's next generation smartphones and tablets. "My dreams are dashed," said a Twitter user who called herself Cheryl. "Thanks (for nothing) @HP."
