Again...this illustrates the diff between a very good show in Spartacus but a greater show in Game of Thrones...this dude didn't really become a dick until he got pussywhipped and the chic made him kill dude's boy...and of course we hated him for it...from the beginning of GoT...the vilification of Joffrey was made very clear and by the time he turned into a full douche you had dudes pretty much angry enough to punch this dude in the face if they saw him in real life...there was a growing hatred for his character from the start w/ his killing of Ned resulting in something deeper than hate for his character I can't even describe it...the characterization is much better in GoT

The funny part is the ones talkin about how ruthless the kid Joffrey is....Spartacus already done did that:

So basically you want to see the same hero archetype rehashed in GoT...thankfully the writers/producers feel diff about serving up the same familiar protagonists/antagonists that viewers are used to...and Braveheart and Ned are 2 diff characters facing 2 diff circumstances...Braveheart lost his family (basically his wife) so he had nothing to lose and was spurred by love/revenge which evolved into "honor"...he assumed a leadership role and became a "man" against an entire realm/country...Ned was NEVER that dude...he could have assumed a bigger role in things...but he was just interested in holding down Winterfell and going to King's Landing to solve Jon Arryn's death...THAT'S IT...nothing more...if you wanted him to be more than that then you're entitled to your opinion...but you don't write for the series so it is what it is...Ned had his home (Winterfell) and his family (wife and kids) and he was content w/ that...Braveheart really had no home cuz they didn't even own their own land their wives would get raped on their honeymoons and shit and the one thing he loved was taken from him...and that fueled him to greatness...by the time he was caught/tortured he was more legend than man...when Ned was caught he was just a "broken" dude caught up in a situation he never wanted to be in to begin w/ and he was prepared to die easily but then thought of his daughters...now whether or not you look @ that as cowardly or noble is debatable...there is no right answer but there's no debating why he did it...and considering the type of character Ned is it's very understandable...here is a dude that warned the Queen to escape w/ her son out of mercy for their lives...so why would he not sacrifice his honor for the mercy of his daughters' lives...again you may not agree w/ how his character ended but thankfully you don't write for the show...otherwise we would have gotten some kinda cliche bullshit w/ Ned having a dramatic escape from prison and rallying the troops in a win all lose all fight to the death bla bla bla...and ultimately that's the diff between a good yet predictable show like Spartacus and a great show like GoT that is unpredictably real

A bit hostile no? Did i slash your tires in past life or something? Either-way its a fine show...i just didn't share the writers view with a few story line, i believe i still have the right.

I really like them both. I don't think it's a good comparison.

Two different kinds of shows. Spartacus is more of a "cheap thrill" kind of show, not to be taken too seriously, while Game of Thrones is more of a serious story (like The Wire and The Sopranos and even Rome).

I'm generally more biased toward more serious shows, so I was gonna go with Thrones, but as I type this, I realize that Thrones ain't on the level of the best serious shows (at least not yet) while Spartacus blows other "cheap thrill" shows out of the water (I'd include True Blood, Dexter, and Weeds, amongst others in this category), so for that reason, I'm gonna have to role with

SPARTACUS

I don't think it's a good comparison.

Ultimately I agree w/ this...when The Wire and The Shield were both hot you had ppl compare them and I loved both shows for very diff reasons...it makes for good/interesting discussion tho...

Basically...I didn't even see this post...he is supposed to have compassion for everyone else's children...but not his own? It would have been ridiculous for him to hold onto his honor @ the expense of his own childrens' lives when Varys indirectly "threatened" them (or @ least implied they were in harm's way)...THAT would have been lousy writing...once he got caught...prior to reading the book I was actually hoping for his death but didn't think it would happen...he had a good heart but he literally wasn't too bright and the book does a good job (as did the show) of showing him being in over his head and being half-a-step short...his character was actually becoming a drag on the show and I'm glad Martin has that stance of the character serving the story and not vice versa...it's breathtaking to see the series be confident enough in a story to do what they are doing

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here. Ask yourself what would have happened if NEd hadn't agreed with Varys to disavow his previous words against Joffrey? Do you honestly think they would have let him go to the town square and shout his accusations to the public. HELL NO!! He woulda died in that cell with Rats and shit all around him.

I'm gonna paraphrase the writer Martin and what he's said about the way Ned went out. He basically said that people need to understand is that characters SERVE the story and not the other way around.

It served the story for Ned to die the way he did, because if he does not then we don't get to see Joffery go back on his promise which more than anything added fuel to the fire of his enemies. Joffrey was going to have problems anyway, but now he's added additional justification for his enemies to work with.

On the other hand if he had been the stiff honor bound character you seem to want him to be, that's exactly how he would have died in that cell serving no purpose but his own.

ask you to reflect on Ned whole character. Yes, he's shown to be almost always protecting his honor, but he's also shown to have emotion and care for others. See how he acted to prevent Dany's assassination, not just because it was the honorable thing, but because he knows he has to protect his own family member from the same kind of retribution. Allowing Cersie a chance to leave was not truly the honorable thing to do but again he has to consider his own illegitimate family members.

Spartacus is my shit, butI heavily slept on GoT during its run...now I'm almost finished the season over 2-1/2 days...damn damn damn.

The show is great so far...ppl have accused Martin of being a cynic bcuz of the fate of some characters...but dude is just a realist to me...the good guys don't always win and the bad guys aren't all stupid...and then you have those characters who fall in-between...this show is the reason why I liked The Wire...the characters and the story are "real" (and ya there are dragons/ghosts in GoT but y'all know what I mean )

Ya the way they fit the book into each ep was done well...damn near every ep ended w/ an aww shit cliffhanger moment...the series has been "spoiled" for me cuz of my curiosity (+ Google) so I know about what will happen...but I will still read to pick up on subtle things and I def will watch cuz I do wanna see how they visually handle the magical shit too

yup...I love shows like this and the wire cuz they basically tells the audience 'fuck fate and fuck karma, people are motivated mostly by they're self-interest, the"good guys" don't always win, and the "bad guys" don't always get theirs...and if they do, they'll just be replaced by someone worse.'

It's always good for shows like these to challenge the audiences' expectations.

that loud clink when he hit the ground

I thought his character woulda lasted longer...I mean I had a feeling he was gonna get punked but not so fast...I have that ep saved...cuz he came in drunk...and the way he says "Where is sheee?" in a high pitched voice...that scene was hilarious!

Wow...I never even really thought about that...you right

 Youtube...entered "golden crown" but when this dude come in drunk and say "Where is sheee?" you knew this nigga was gonna be asking for an ass kicking @ the least from that point on

I went with Game of Thrones because it has the deeper story, character devolopment and world ..imo..not saying Spartacus is bad but its not fucking with GoT.

I will say this though Spartacus will beat Khal Drogo's ass when it comes to them fighting with weapons...Spartacus beat a dude that peel his opponent's face off...:hmm:

Leroy held it down in here quite nicely. I watched both Spartacus seasons. And i watched GoT, and GoT just has Spartacus beat. Hands down. Spartacus is cool, but story wise? Intrigue? Gets you involved in the story? GoT does that. GoT has the better characterization too.

And better acting.

I'm going with Spartacus too. Those two seasons give it the edge. Game of Thrones is sick though, good story.

Haven't watched Spartacus but I'm tired as fuck right now because I sat up till 3 am last night watching the first three episodes of Game of Thrones. That shit is good as fuck. I had to make myself go to sleep then.

Man I so wish I could get back all those seasons, if you loved Luther, and his wife from the show, then you'll love how she acts in Rome really good acting from all the characters, HBO knows how to make good drama shows!

I haven't watched Luther and I just noticed the fanfare about it in the tv section...didn't think it would've been good...I'll give it a watch

Spartacus is a good show but its not messing with Game of Thrones.Game of Thrones have a deeper storyline, character development and the world is well thought out........imo

Im not hating on Spartacus because its a good show, hell I even like it.I just dont understand how anyone can put it over Game of Thrones.

The funny part is the ones talkin about how ruthless the kid Joffrey is....Spartacus already done did that:

tumblr_l44qo3C0kl1qc8hj1o1_500.jpg

He dont have nothing on Joffrey...

Lil dude was what I called a plot device. He had no real power, the adults were just humoring him. He wanted to play toy gladiators with real people.

Joffrey is King of the Seven Realms. He literally has the power of life and death over hundreds of thousands of people

Imagine Battiarus as a 13 year old running things for the whole of Rome and you got something like Joffrey

Nobody isnt hating on Spartacus but Game of Thrones has the better story line and character development...When this thread was first made I was about to say "Fuck Spartacus" but after watching the episodes I think its a really good show but its not fucking with Game of Thrones.

Hell even I acknowledge that Spartacus will beat Khal Drogo in a fight since we only saw Drogo in one fight....Again Spartacus is a very good show but Game of Thrones is the better show..

As much as I liked "Spartacus: Blood In the Sand", I think the writing and storyline for GOT is much better. GOT is a 5 book series (5th book coming out soon, with 2 more prequels to come in the future), and season 1 only covered the 1st book. This shit is DEEP! The writer, George R. R. Martin has written for and produced a number of shows for television & movies as well as written numerous books (his bibliography: http://georgerrmartin.com/bibliography.html), so there is no comparison in the writing of the 2 shows.
