Kobe a no-show in Game 7

Bob Keisser
Staff columnist
Inside SOCAL

Today's this-hallway-isn't-big-enough-for-both-of-us edition of The Sporting Muse:
Kobe Bryant's value just keeps increasing.

Seriously. We all know how omnipotent he became in the eyes of Lakers owner Jerry Buss when the owner chose to side with the young star in the Shaquille O'Neal showdown.

Even if you believe it was the right decision for a lot of reasons, and believe that Shaq isn't going to ever win a title again, either, it still made no sense from a competitive point of view. We wouldn't be talking about the Lakers blowing a 3-1 series lead against Phoenix if the two were still teammates. We might be talking about Shaq's weight and Kobe's attitude, but it would be en route to the conference finals.

Now we can see that he's even more valuable in the context of his play with the Lakers. When he's motivated to be the best he can be, he can soar over a team by himself. And when his motivations ebb, he can suck the life out of a moment quicker than Ted Kennedy on C-SPAN.

In Game 6 of the Suns series, Kobe scored 50 points and his team had a late lead and lost in overtime. So how does it track that he takes just three shots and scores one point in the second half of their Game 7 loss Saturday?

Phoenix didn't do anything in Game 7 they didn't do in Game 6. They pressed Kobe and dared him to pass. In Game 6, Bryant rose to the challenge and scored. In Game 7, he pouted? Gave up? Wanted to make a point about his worth? Wanted to get home to his new baby? All of the above?

Anyone talking about Bryant being the MVP of anything other than his own closet is merely as myopic as Al Davis. I define a MVP by wins, and Bryant hasn't won anything since Shaq left other than Buss' affection.

And I don't think he ever will. If you liked this year's Lakers team, you'll love them next year, too, because the chance of them acquiring better parts is remote. Not only is the free-agent class spotty, but they have nothing to offer anyone in a trade.

No one wants Lamar Odom, no one in their right mind would take Kwame Brown, Smush Parker returned to his rightful level, and the rest of the cast works hard and wins often enough to shade the right side of .500. And that's that.

But, hey, Kobe had that 81-point game. Pop that in the VCR and see how well it plays now if you can pull yourself away from the TV and the Clippers' telecasts.

No one wants Lamar Odom

I doubt that.

last night during TNT's broadcast of the suns v. clippers, ernie johnson said that tobe had 'communicated' with charles barkley about his unflattering post game 7 remarks. anybody got the video? or a link to the transcript?

Was Charles there while Ernie was saying this? If so, what did he say? I would love to hear their conversation.

The Big Story

Kobe Bryant is not Michael Jordan. He is the Bizarro Jordan.

Jordan started his professional career as a high-scoring, acrobatic phenom who struggled to win respect as a champion.

Finally, the Bulls surrounded him with enough talent and he became, next to Bill Russell, the greatest winner in NBA history.

Bryant had the great fortune to be surrounded by talent early in his NBA career.

He helped the Lakers to three championships but eventually forced out anyone else who might demand the ball.

Now Bryant is free to score 81 points in a game but can't get out of the first round of the playoffs.

Against Phoenix, in a Game 7 loss Saturday, Bryant scored 24 points - 23 in the first half.

He took only three shots after halftime as the Suns ran to a 31-point victory.

"If we were going to get back into this type of game, we have to have everybody contributing," Bryant said after the game.

He apparently did not notice the irony of his statement.

Bryant, through his personality, has made sure the Lakers don't have anyone else ready to contribute in such a spot
.

And yet, there are those who will tell you that Bryant is the best player in the NBA.

They will tell you that Bryant, not Shaquille O'Neal, was the star of the Lakers during their championship run.

Such is O'Neal's curse.

When Orlando was winning, Penny Hardaway was on his way to becoming NBA royalty.

Then it was Bryant.

Now it's Dwyane Wade.

One might think people would notice that Orlando and Los Angeles fell off the map after O'Neal left and that Miami wasn't on it before he arrived.

One might think people would notice that O'Neal is still playing this week.

Phoenix's victory did more than expose Bryant's limitations.

The Los Angeles Clippers are a sympathetic group working against the franchise's history of futility, but NBA fans should root for the Suns in this series.

Nothing against the Clippers, but for the last several years the NBA has been waking from the slow-motion nightmare of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

All that is necessary to open a new era of exciting, expansive basketball is playoff success for Phoenix, which favors the end-to-end style above all others.

If the Suns can reach the NBA Finals, other teams will begin to copy their style, and with players such as LeBron James (the true heir to Air Jordan) reaching maturity the league should have an exciting product to sell for the next decade.

I feel like I'm in church !

This is the Gospel here. They had me after the first sentence.

Kobe made alot of sportswriters look bad.

I really need to hear what Kobe said to Barkley.

BTW Where is Trojans Fan???

yeah, ernie, kenny smith, ben gordon and charles barkley... they were doing the halftime teaser for the post game show...

ernie brought it up, and said they'd discuss it in greater detail after the game... charles kept on emphasizing that tobe 'communicated' with him, NOT that they had actually spoken...

so i'd speculate that tobe issued a statement through his publicist, agent or attorney... or left a voice mail message...

the problem, TR, is that the fakers organization (by that i mean the owner, GM, and coach) INSTRUCT ALL PLAYERS to coddle tobe... veterans and rookies alike are told that they MUST praise his play and CAN NOT speak poorly about him in the media... players are REQUIRED to stroke tobe's fragile BITCH ego to prevent a kwame brown like meltdown (which results in shot boycotts and game 7 type surrenders)...

coach jackson couldn't even speak his mind about tobe until AFTER he got canned and published a book... :smh:

shaquille o'neal spoke his mind about tobe and became the fakers scapegoat...

Breakin it down again.

I did forget that Kobe never started alot of games. They had a hell of a team at the time. Eddie Jones, Shaq, Van Exel and Horry (?) and Elden Campbell.
Those were my Bulls years. I didn't really study the Lakers as much .

I need to ask.....Is it really like that with the Lakers? There is alot of truth in what you are saying. I always wondered why nobody says anything about Kobe being an asshole.

Kwame went off at half time? Word?

Damn.

Here it is from insidehoops:

Barkley basically said that Kobe called him (he later said that it wasn't an actual call, but a series of "about 20 text messages";) and "was very angry" about his comments, and that he "let his feelings be heard." He also said that Kobe used colorful language (i.e., profanity).

I mean, 20 text messages? Even if the # is an exaggeration, which I'm sure it is (because there's no way Barkley counted them), and it was like 8-10 text messages, it just goes to show you how irate Kobe was. It's the mark of a true child who can't take his lumps, and can't stand any criticism of himself. Seriously, that sort of behavior says a lot. Groupies will disagree, I'm sure, but whatever. I know that in my own life, when I hear that someone has text messaged or called a person 20 times, I know that said person has deep issues.

so who was the assistant coach? :)

Kim Hughes
Rory White
Neal Meyer
Marc Iavaroni
Alvin Gentry
Phil Weber
Dan D'Antoni
Todd Quinter

MY MISTAKE! i misinterpreted the author's comment. the person who said this is a FAKERS ASSISTANT COACH. here are your choices:

Frank Hamblen
Kurt Rambis
Brian Shaw
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I've been waiting to hear your commentary on Kobe's mindset.

Will the Heat beat your beloved Pistons? (or NJ for that matter)

I have the Heat in 6.

Can Lebron rebound?

How bout them Suns!!!!!!

Dallas over SA??

The heat may not get past Jersey. I´ve got the Pistons in 5 or 6 against either the Heat or Jersey. My opinion will be biased because the Pistons are my team, but I don´t think anyone in the playoffs is playing better, more well-balanced basketball right now on both sides of the ball. They will be tough to beat.

On Kobe:

Being in Brasil, I don´t get to see many games so I missed game 7 of the Lakers-Suns matchup. But after seeing Kobe sabotage the Lakers in the Pistons-Lakers series a couple of years ago I woudn´t be surprised by his game 7 effort if it is as bad as everyone says it is. I lose more and more respect for his game every year. Kobe just has no basketball IQ..pure athleticism, but I don´t think he thinks when he is on the court. He doesn´t have IT mentality.

TNT announced that tobe would be the in-studio guest on wednesday night...

guess he couldn't let chuck have the last word... :D

the pistons v. cavaliers series isn't very interesting to me... maybe i'm hallucinating, but the pistons don't appear to be playing with alot of intensity or urgency...

the cavaliers are playing ugly, but they're in uncharted waters as a franchise, so it's understandable...

i have been impressed with drew gooden... i have been unimpressed with zydrunas ilgauskas (sp?)... do the cavaliers REALLY need him? honestly? i can see some positives in anderson varejao, but i don't have a very good opinion of his game...

the mavericks v. spurs series is a joke... the calls against TD have negatively impacted the spurs and created a clear advantage for dallas...

one of my MVP candidates, elton brand, has not disappointed me... the clippers played game 4 without starter chris kaman, and elton brand put the team on his back and carried them to a W...

Something doesnt seem right to me. The Spurs are down 3 to 1, when was the last time they were down like this? Is Greg being outcoached by second-year coach Avery? I don't know, something just doesnt seem right. As for the Pistons being tied, this series is boring indeed. Its like you can almost predict whats gonna happen. All season long the Pistons dominate, now all of a sudden they can't score 80 points on the road? Is the Cavs defense that good? Even without Larry Hughes? Wheres Chauncey?

The Pistons remind me of Miami last year. The best record in the east crusin, then got a wake up call. DWade being hurt didn't help either.
All year the Pistons have been talking about home court advantage in the Finals, overlooking everybody else.

I never felt the Pistons were legitimate contenders. The championship they won was because of a Kobe meltdown ala game 7 against the Suns. Then they really lost the ECF however when DWade got hurt, they stole the series. They probably should have beaten the Spurs, if not for Robert Horry doing his MDP act they probably would have. In addition, the refs ALLOW DETROIT to PLAY DEFENSE. They can foul four times a play and never get called. Their GREAT DEFENSE is because the refs rotate to the open man :D .I have been waiting for them to get their ass busted for a year now. I don't think Clevland will do it. I just want them to extend the series so Miami will be in top shape to hopefully bust their ass.

The Dallas- Spurs series is bogus. They are calling BS on them every time. I saw some shit last night that made me say WTF?!?!?!?!.....and I am rooting for Dallas. I want Dallas to win, not Dallas and the refs. I have never liked 8 on 5 ball.

Kobe in studio with Charles??????? Must see TV that is. Charles doesn't bite his tounge. It will be nice to see phony ass Kobe trying to wiggle his way out of direct questions.

Back to the Cavs...I think they need to sit Zilgaus ass down. The Brazillian center plays with a lot more heart and passion. Z looks plain scared. Clevland is doing this with their Hughes gone. More power to them.

The Suns should beat the Clippers. The Heat will beat the Nets tonight. I knew that the Nets could not keep up that kind of shooting from Kidd. He cant shoot at all. If Kidd shooting threes is the game plan , youre cooked. Vince and Kidd look like they have already taken the fishing poles out of storage.

Rasheed played himself. Why fire up Clevland? For what? They would have gladly lost this series and called it a good year. Let sleeping dogs lie. That ankle roll was nasty looking. He was in the air and came down right on it. OUCH. I could feel that shit through the screen.

Cran..... wats the inside dirt on the refs? Is this a Vegas thing? I cant remember a playoffs with this shitty of officiating.

Also Cran, what is the deal with the NBA and protecting Kobe? Please elaborate.

As I always say... you are better than most sports writers with your analysis of the game.

I am not suprised that the Pistons are screwing up. They have met their match. Let me explain.

Lebron has more juice with the refs than the Pistons do. Without the additional three players (the refs) the Pistons now have to play BBAll and their "team" is showing up...YET. Billups said last night that Clevland's defense is not slowing them down. ??????????     .

This will probably be the last year I watch the NBA with this type of frequency. No matter how well teams play....NO ONE CAN BEAT THE REFS.

You are right Tim (Thats my nickname BTW).....something aint right. I expected Dallas to win, but they should not be down three-one to Dallas. A player hits three buckets and gets 21 free throws? What part of the game is that?

It's like the Sapranos up in this MF.

Does anyone gave the video of the refs getting paid off?

All the money this year was on SA and the Pistons.

The house wins again.

i have no dirt on the officials... the only one i even vaguely know is leon wood, and that's because i played some pickup games with him back in the 80's...

there's 2 ways to look at it... either the officials are 'fixing' the games, or the officials are flat out incompetent... i'd like to believe it is the latter, and not the former...

SpiritualPorn said:

i wouldn't go so far as to say the league 'protects' tobe... but it does serve the league's best interests financially to have marketable stars as selling points... tobe has the potential to be a cash cow for A LOT of people who have invested A LOT of time and money in him, but tobe is all style and NO substance...

nike, the NBA and USA basketball all have vested dollar interests in making sure the public only sees tobe put his best foot forward... what they're learning though, is that tobe doesn't REALLY have what they're looking for... they gambled and LOST...

in a similar way, a lot of people started hyping up tony parker this season, but officials questionable calls aside, one of the main reasons the spurs find themselves in a hole is because tony parker is getting used on D...

Next Game Plan May Not Include Kobe

The NBA

Bryant, who had always been gracious in defeat, didn't congratulate any Suns. His teammates slinked off too, reportedly at his direction.

The jersey-number change was only the latest bubble to surface. He bristled when asked about it, and when he finally deigned to comment, said he just "felt like it." Meanwhile, ESPN's Darren Rovell quoted an industry source who said Bryant didn't like his old sneaker company, Adidas, reissuing his KB8 shoe under the name "Crazy 8."

as we get ready for tobe on TNT...

i thought i'd take a moment to put something in it's proper perspective...

as many of you know, the charlotte hornets used their 13th pick in the 1996 draft to select tobe... tobe was traded to the fakers for vlade divac, and fakers fans have been chuckling ever since...

but are they wise to chuckle? or are they simply giddy with their own foolishness? let's take a look...

by the end of his second season, vlade divac was already a FULL TIME STARTER, who helped his team reach the NBA finals...

by the end of his second season, tobe hadn't even cracked the starting lineup, starting only a single game...

vlade divac was traded to the charlotte hornets in his 8th season... the year prior to his arrival, the hornets finished 41-41. the next season, vlade divac helped the hornets finish 54-28 (+13) AND make the playoffs his FIRST season there...

tobe entered the post-shaquille o'neal fakers era in his 9th season... the year prior to that, the fakers finished 56-26 and went to the NBA finals. the next season, tobe helped the fakers finish 34-48 (-22) AND miss the playoffs...

in vlade divac's second season as a hornet, the squad surpassed the 50 win mark again, finishing 51-31 AND advanced to the eastern conference SEMIFINALS...

in tobe's second season with the post-shaquille o'neal fakers, the fakers finished 45-37 and made the playoffs...

so what did the hornets get for their 13th pick?

a PROVEN veteran full time starter with NBA playoffs/finals experience. a player who IMMEDIATELY helped their squad surpass the 50 win milestone in consecutive seasons. a player who IMMEDIATELY helped their squad reach AND GO DEEPER into the playoffs in consecutive seasons...

and what did the fakers get?

a project SG/SF... a mirage... a red herring... a duck that has been exposed as a fraud without shaquille o'neal... a head case that started 8 games his first 2 seasons... a primadonna who hasn't sniffed the 50 win milestone in consecutive seasons without shaquille o'neal... a sham who rode lamar odom's coat tail into winning record and the playoffs this season...

don't say i'm biased either. EVERYBODY knows i hate euros. just putting things in proper perspective here.

talent and tobe

isn't it funny how the fakers can't seem to hold onto quality players?

how NOBODY wants to play on the fakers? is it just a coincidence that tobe is the 'franchise' player on a team that can't attract or entice anyone?

hmmm... let's take a look...

well, we all know about shaquille o'neal... he's that old bum who is advancing to the ECF for the second straight year since leaving the fakers... funny how blind tobe faithfuls insist that tobe had NOTHING to do with shaquille o'neal's departure, but STRANGELY FORGET that tobe did not demand the fakers to keep him either...

then there's gary payton... you know, that old bum who got his squad (the milwaukee bucks) to the playoffs before he joined the fakers... then got his squad (the boston celtics) to the playoffs after he left the fakers... and what a coincidence... he's another old bum who is advancing to the ECF...

how about iron man karl malone? you know, that old bum who got his squad (the utah jazz) into the playoffs 18 CONSECUTIVE SEASONS before he joined the fakers... then chose retirement over playing with tobe again?

who else?

how about chucky atkins? you know, the no talent PG who got his squad (the boston celtics) into the playoffs before he joined the fakers... then got his squad (the memphis grizzlies) into the playoffs after he left the fakers...

how about brian grant? you know, the washed up PF who got his squad (the miami heat) to the playoffs before he joined the fakers... then helped his squad (the phoenix suns) into the playoffs after he left the fakers...

how about caron butler? you know, the inexperienced SG/SF who got his squad (the miami heat) into the playoffs before he joined the fakers... then got his squad (the washington wizards) into the playoffs after he left the fakers...

oh, and let's not forget robert horry... what's his non-contributing ass done for himself since he left the fakers? oh, nothing. just added another ring to his collection LAST YEAR.

tobe the weasel

so, the long awaited confrontation with charles barkley and tobe started during halftime of the pistons v. cavaliers game...

charles barkley extended the olive branch by saying that he should not have called tobe selfish on national television...

tobe affirmed that he was bitch made by admitting that he did send charles a series of text messages to complain about charles' remarks...

BUT... the most insightful part of the halftime show was that tobe showed how flawed his recollection of events is... sorry tobe, but some of us aren't buying the bullshit you shovelling...

1) when pressed by charles barkely and kenny smith about taking only 3 FGAs in game 7, tobe pointed to game 4, saying he INTENTIONALLY didn't shoot much in that game either... according to tobe, the fakers' defensive energy increases when the TEAM is scoring... is that an admission that tobe saps the fakers' defensive energy when he engages in scoring binges?

but let's stick to the FACTS... tobe shouldn't point to game 4 as being similar to game 7, because he shot TWICE as many FGs in the 2nd half of game 4 as he did in game 7... IN ADDITION, tobe failed to mention that he also had SEVERAL trips to the FT line n the 2nd half of game 4...

2) tobe LIED about game 4 a second time... tobe tried to create an ILLUSION of similarity between game 4 and game 7 by conjuring a FALSE memory: that the fakers faced a large deficit in both games DURING THE SECOND HALF...

if tobe could FOOL VIEWERS INTO BELIEVING that the fakers faced SIMILAR circumstances in game 4 (a game in which the fakers tied in regulation and won in OT), then those same viewers would have to also BUY his explanation of taking only 3 FGAs in game 7...

ONE HUGE PROBLEM: as PEOPLE WHO WATCHED game 7 remember, the fakers trailed by 15 at halftime.

tobe said that the fakers ALSO trailed by "14 or 15 points" in Q4 of game 4. the TRUTH is that the fakers NEVER trailed by "14 or 15 points" in the ENTIRE SECOND HALF of game 4... IN FACT, the suns' lead NEVER reached double digits in the second half... wasn't the largest suns' lead only 7 or 8 points?

SAD, young man... SAD...

Great points

I noticed the same things.

If I may elaborate..........

1) Ernie did a good job of keeping things civil. Charles leveled Kobe out with the "take it public" "apology"....all well and good.. however he stuck to his guns by pointing out that Phil gives Kobe the green light to take over when he feels necessary. I cannot remember where we have had this much of a conversation of a suppoused great player tanking and quiting on a game....ESPECIALLY a game seven when you team was up 3-1 in the history of the NBA. Kobe then gets his backhanded "Jump over the table and pop Charles in the head" comment in knowing good and well he laid down on the floor when Raja punked his ass out and did some High School hip hop brush the dirt off ya shoulder shit when he did get up.

In stark contrast he then witnessed LeBron keep shooting and assisting his teammates and WILL them to victory against the best team in the leauge. Thats how you lead a team Kobe. Thats why he is in the booth instead of on the floor.

2) His game points were lame and uninsightful. Ginobli is the key? I think Tim Duncan on fire was the key. Dallas basically won this game and lost it at the end. Ginobli did contribute however they werent up by 8 with 2 minutes to go because of Ginobli's play. The Spurs simply played their best game of the year to avoid elimination. SA looks shaken and were playing scared all night. His Euro love was more than obvious.

3) I noticed he was indecisive in making predictions. I'll let that slide for two reasons. a) He is not a studio professional and b) His team was up three to one and lost. This was after he was pulling his jersy and thumping his chest. He is really right to STFU on that point. In addition he was so pissed about Charles comments he didnt want to be on the receiving end of text messages from other players.

Kobe's game 4 and game seven comparisons were straight bullshit. I have never heard a "great" player ever trying to explain why he didn't give 100% in a game seven. Only Kobe groupies would buy that shit.

LeBron's team got blown out and was down 2-0. They lost Hughes, their second best scorer. They have put together three straight wins and might win the series. Lebron never trashed his teammates. He just played as hard as he could. I don't get the least bit annoyed at LeBron /Jordan comparisons. LeBron shows up and makes critical plays at the end of important games. Kobe gets mad at his teammates and quits then goes on TNT to try to change the perception of what we all saw.

Fuck Kobe for trying to insult my fucking intelligence.

I also noticed he avoided Wed night, the night Shaq went to his second straight ECF since the trade. He definetly did not want to talk about Shaq so he skipped out.

He is well spoken and smooth. No personality. Nothing insightful. Very vanilla. I would not want to listen to Kobe analyze anything at this point.

It made for good TV though.

I believe it's the former
which makes everything else moot
unless you like pro wrestling.......
which I do not

I'll still watch though (once in awhile). Just to see
Dirk get dunked on again...and again...and again
So Shaq, Zo and Duncan can remind me what the
game is really about...oh and Josh Howard too

And I'll enjoy baseball right now, while the scripts are
still in development. Then tune out once the playoffs
start

how about caron butler? you know, the inexperienced SG/SF who got his squad (the miami heat) into the playoffs before he joined the fakers... then got his squad (the washington wizards) into the playoffs after he left the fakers...

oh, and let's not forget robert horry... what's his non-contributing ass done for himself since he left the fakers? oh, nothing. just added another ring to his collection LAST YEAR.

Lets not forget Derek Fisher....he said Shaq leaving was a part of his reasons for seeking employment elsewhere. .4 hit the door. Obviously he didnt beleive they would get far.

Now lets imagine if you just replace Kobe with Lebron in the west and surround him with the following:

Horry
Odom
Butler
Fisher

Would they have made the playoffs: Hell yes
Would they have blown a 3-1 series lead? Hell No
Would they beat the Clippers? Hell Yes
Why that would be The WCF!!!

I just want to see how long this charade will go on.

Kobe without Shaq=VC

Watching Wobe on the TNT post game show last night was comical. For someone who has played the game for 10 years, he sure has poor game analysis skills.

you know? AT LEAST during kenny smith's analysis, he TRIES to talk X's and O's... TRIES to explain why the play did or didn't work. tobe knew NOTHING.

during tobe's 'analysis' all he did was narrate what the viewers had already seen... NO insight at all. no break down of the play or how it evolved.

xfactor said:
Anyone else notice how he was praising the EURO players such as Boris Diaw, Flopnobili, and Tony Parker and said they were great players? :hmm:

yes. NO surprise to me, since tobe is a euro. he spent a good 30 seconds talking about tobe ginobili's ball handling skills (keeping the ball centered instead of crossing over), and then made a passing reference to boris diaw and leandro barbosa...

His Euro love was more than obvious.

did anyone else notice that the only things tobe could get to come out his mouth was:

a) team X is just trying to keep it close, so they can have a chance to win at the end. GENERIC. no insight into the specific circumstances of the UNIQUE games he was questioned about.

b) team Y is trying to build a cushion (tobe must've said this at least 6 times). right. because teams never want to come out strong, put their foot on your neck, and close you out early. because teams always want to be looking over their shoulder, just waiting for the opponent to make a run on you.

I swear Cran, my friends are suprised with my bball analysis and that is partially due to the insights you provide here. Here's why I say that:

Last night I noticed one thing in the Clevland game: When Z was in the game the Cavs lead seemed to disappear. With Brzilian Fro in the game, the Cavs played much better D. When OFro (Orange afro) picked up his sixth foul I told everyone that they should put in Gooden . Sure enough they put in Z,he doesnt cut or move on offense and although he was in position to put back two of LeBrons misses, they ended up as pionts the other way. Then on the D end, he was in position to get the rebound. Dough boy not only fucks up his positioning, he falls into Ben Wallace and fouls out. Ben missed those two free throws Gooden gets position and James finds him. Gooden between two defenders puts up the game winner. I firmly beleive if Z came off the bench and OFRO started the Cavs would kill Detroit.

Switch to Kobe.....sure Bron makes the game winning assist (a perfect example of how a young guy can lead a team) however IT WAS THE INCREASED DEFENSIVE EFFORT AND SPEED OF GOODEN AND MARSHALL THAT SEALED THE WIN. Also...I heard no mention on Rashhed "Iwould put my foot in their ass if I didn't twist it" Wallace choking by not even getting a shot up. The same man making guarantees straight owned himself with that shit.

That Vanilla analysis was weak coming from someone as well spoken as Kobe. I learned nothing new,my thoughts weren't provoked. He was saying the same shit a female watching would say. "They need stops" , They need to close out quaters strong", "They should bring their "a" game",........all this cliche shit that someone that doesn't understand the game or didn't watch it would say.
Kobe sounded like a well spoken Timmy Hardaway. No BBAll I. Q. and this is after 10 years.

In stark contrast Kenny Smith the night before did an excellent job of pointing out the defensive lapse of the guy off the bench in the Phoniex-Clippers game and the coaches mistake for putting him in at that critical juncture. A point I totally missed. Then goes out and demonstrates it with someone from the production crew. Guard the line not the player.

Kenny kills with the X's and O's and Charles usually bring the mindset aspect.

Kobe is to phony and self absorbed to relate a funny story or give insight. He is actually too insecure to take any form of criticism (sp). No wonder he has to buy rings and spend tons to keep his woman. He has no word game because he can't reach and feel others feeling.

i don't bite my tongue when it comes to euros, so a lot of people think i have something personal against the players i deride... for the most part, i have no personal beefs with euros...

that said, zydrunas ilgauskas is suffering from the NBA playoffs sophomore euro blues... euros tend to disappear because they lack the mental (and sometimes physical) playoffs toughness to step their games up a level...

to me, zydrunas ilgauskas looks as though he has either: (a) lost confidence in himself, or (b) correctly or incorrectly, believes that his teammates have lost confidence in his game...

coach brown sees it, understands it, and it shows... zydrunas ilgauskas' minutes played are down, his FG% is WAY down, his FT% is WAY down, and of course his rebounds, assists, steals, TOs and scoring are down. unfortunately for him, his PFs are UP...

you know, its funny that you say that, because the racist crackers that do the fakers radio show on am 570 here in los angeles just got through praising tobe. according to them, tobe "put kenny smith and charles barkley to shame."

in case you run across them in the future, these idiots' names are: vic the brick (hungarian), steve hartman (cbs jewish co-anchor with jim hill), and john ireland (milque toast bitch boy that does the sideline reporting for fakers games on local TV kcal 9).

the reason i call them racist is because IT'S PAINFULLY OBVIOUS that these fools were NOT listening to the CONTENT of tobe's broadcast, but rather to the ENUNCIATION of it. i will be first to agree that tobe spoke cleanly and clearly, but his commentary was DEVOID of any meaningful substance. it was less than fluff. it was dead air filler. so that means that those idiots were downing kenny smith's NEW YORK accent and charles barkley's ALABAMA accent.

ouch. my apologies to tim hardaway. and i will disagree with you here, because i think tim has a difficult time articulating his thoughts, but KNOWS basketball. another example would be coach (ron) harper. harp talks like he has marbles in his mouth, but he knows game.

and that's why i appreciate the EFFORT. even if kenny smith gets it wrong 50% of the time, or doesn't dig DEEP ENOUGH into a play, AT LEAST HE TRIED to give the viewing audience an understanding of what went down...

i'm willing to give tobe the benefit of the doubt. tobe may have been nervous (given the context of his being there). or tobe may have been unprepared to speak on live television (used to being a student, and not a teacher)

whatever the reason, tobe was UNCOMFORTABLE. tobe's body language told us so. tobe mostly addressed ernie johnson. he couldn't maintain a smile.

3) Side stepped making a predicition when Ernie Johnson asked him who would win the Cavaliers - Pistons game.

Why are European players hated so much? Anyone with a simple and/or in-depth answer?

In all fairness, would you have really listened to anything he had to say anyway? Probably not. I didn't seen the interview, haven't read any transcripts or anything since, but I can believe that he had some milky smooth shit to say (he's not a professional analysis, which someone already pointed out) to cover his ass. I think he just came on the show to address Charles, which probably turned out to be a great way to boost ratings (as the Lakers are out of the playoffs and we all know anything remotely related to them will draw a crowd).

Is he apathetic to other's feelings? Probably. Is he buying his wife to keep her? I don't know, but I imagine that there are a large number of NBA players that probably are and either A), don't realize it, or B), don't care.

Jesus Christ, where would I start??

I don't hate all Euros, I just hate white people in general
(just kidding...I thought it would be funny to say that)

Anyway, what I really hate is how these announcers make
these Euros out to be so great, when you can see CLEAR
infractions that 90% of European players have gotten away
with FROM THE START of the first highly publicized European
to play here

That's my first problem with them...my second one is that
these players are being hyped up and given preferential
treatment, not for jobs, but for positions that are privileged

For decades, brothas have had to cowtow to obsessive-
complusive, tyrannical coaches who make all kinds of out-
rageous demands upon them that they can NEVER fulfill,
yet Euros like Rik Smits are allowed to UNDERACHIEVE
for seasons without one media sap pulling his card once

Black players are not treated fairly. Neither are African
players. Michael Olowakandi is no worse a player than
a Rik Smits was...Or a Ronnie Seikaly, or Ostertag, or
any of them cats. He is just one example....

What's the name of the African brotha the Nets drafted
at center?? Can't recall. What I do recall, is that dude had
about 2 months to become an all star and he was OUT
after that, but a Joel Pryzbilla was given YEARS to develop
It does not take a whole lot for a 7 foot brotha to rebound
and block shots. But some brothas NEVER get the chance

***EDIT*** I remember his name now. It is Yinka Dare
and I will never forget how badly the media treated this
guy after LESS than half a season, they were already calling
him a bust

Yet, if you check EVERY NBA roster, you find at least one
7 foot, jump shooting pussified STIFF taking up a roster
spot...usually a Euro

Is that enough reasons for you??

1) I don't ride dicks (Like some people ride Kobe's) , I just give credit where it's due. I would give you credit if I learned something from you also.

2) If you didn't watch it you really cannot comment on anything anyone has to say. For the record BJ Armstrong sucks, Marc Jackson is well spoken but waaaayyyy too emotional to give ME info.Tom Tolbert need to be fired damn near since he started. Tolbert is the lamest bitch in the game.
For the grand finale (here come the boos) I LIKE BILL WALTON ON THE SIDELINES !!!!

3) You are right about the buying wife thing and other NBA players...helll MOST MARRIGES. However the point I was making is that the some guys use money to COMPENSATE for what they lack in raw natural talent.Guys with little dicks that can't fuck usually compensate with an overagressive attitude to define their manhood, guys with no personality or real heart usually use money. The thug attracts the women not so much with money but realness and understanding the imagination of the woman. One has to extend themself to do that, put himself in their shoes and care about what another thinks and validate it from their own perspective.

I will say it again:

GREAT PLAYERS NEVER HAVE TO COME ON ANY TV SHOW AND MAKE EXCUSES ABOUT WHY HE TANKED A GAME. Kobe is a FRAUD that is being stuck down the throats of the NBA fan. Arenas might have choked however no one can question his effort

Stars have bad shooting nights but THEY AT LEAST THEY SHOOT. Kobe is doing damage control plain and simple.

That game 7 shit he pulled is a disgrace to his fans and the NBA.

here are a handful of reasons:

1) their big men play soft (can you think of one outside of andrei kirilenko that doesn't? nenad kristic, bostjan nachbar, zarko cabarkapa, andris biedrins, maciej lampe, zeljko rebraca, primoz brezec, vitaly potapenko ?)

2) their guards usually have poor passing skills (not to be confused with court vision) and below average ball handling skills... (beno udrih, arvydas macijauskas?)

3) their guards' idea of penetration is to lower the shouler and bull their way into the lane (remember sarunas marciulonis? marko jaric?)

4) they are unbalanced players, most often offense minded, and extremely poor defenders (sarunas jasikevicius, peja stoyakovic, vladimir radmanovic?)

there's more, but in the meantime, can you give reasons and/or examples why euros are GOOD players?
