Man! Ron Artest Is ON The Whitemans Shit List, The Same List Barry Bonds On.

Rasheed Wallace Was On That List But He Won A Championship And Behaved

Himself As Of Late! You Should Know This Man!

I understand that. But my question is, Ron received one first place vote and 8 second place votes. Yet, everyone on the second team (except Tayshaun) received higher first and second place votes than Ron. So why is he on the first team, and not Duncan. It must be some type of error. Casue you get two points for first team.
i.e. - Bowen - 26 first place votes equals 52 points, plus the 2 second place votes, which count as 1 point, gives him a total of 54. But Ron got 1 fist place vote which equals 2 points, plus the 8 second place votes which gives him a total of 10. Unless, its supposed to be 11 first place (22 points), 22 + 8 = 30. Thats the only thing i can think of. Yeah, its must be a typo.

Where do you see Artest has 1 first place vote? It clearly states he has 11 in the voting table. If he only got 10 points, he wouldnt even have made the team.

On another note... @ the All NBA Defensive 1st team. It looks like the 2nd team is more defense oriented than the first.

Also, the Memphis Grizzlies were the #1 team in defense in the NBA. Anyone find it odd no one of the team made it? Let alone get heavy consideration

Or the fact that Pistons' players take up 30% of the slots? :hmm:

The fact that a karate man like Artest can make the first team
while Josh Howard doesn't make the team at all, destroys all
credibility this list might have had in my opinion

Thats the whole point. Like i said, it must have been a typo and they just fixed it on the site.

The Pistons are the LEAST peanalized team in the NBA.

The refs don't call SHIT on the Pistons. Don't try to defend them however. You get a tec for touching Hamiltons Cornrows.

As a Shaq era Lakers fan, I find it hard to really complain about the refs especially when everyone says that they were given game seven of the ECF. However, the Pistons still get away with alot.

I hope Miami finds a way to keep Shaq in the game against Detroit.

As for NBA Dfense team.........what a joke.

Cran.... how is one to look at defense in the NBA besides the usual blocked shots and steals? A player cannot really "shut a man down", so what constitutes great defense in the NBA from a ballers perspective?

good question.

you'll get different answers from alot of people.

box score readers look to blocked shots and steals. i'll pass.

scorers say the toughest defenders are the ones that take away SOME aspects of their game (force the scorer to the middle where help is, take away baseline, sit on their strong hand)

coaches tend to look at it from a position standpoint. on-ball defender like lindsey hunter, defensive rebounder like ben wallace, post defender like elton brand... who can disrupt the half court set the opposing team is trying to run?

my personal viewpoint is one of who makes the other player MISERABLE? who has their man HATING to be defended? who, using LEGAL tactics (not jersey holding, grabbing or flopping) has gotten into the other man's head and taken him out of the game? i LOVE on ball defenders who play chest to chest defense, making the player uncomfortable because you're CONSTANTLY invading his personal space.

i am less inclined to reward floaters (think free safeties) like earvin johnson and tobe, who gather steals created by their teammates, and overplay passing lanes because they rarely have tough defensive assignments...

You really can't use how many points a man had to determine if a defensive
player has done a good job defensively on his man. And steals is absolutely
NOT a good indication of defense. In fact, I would say is it one of the worst
indicators, unless you get 7, 8, 9 steals. Blocked shots can be somewhat
of an indicator for players OTHER than the power positions (C and PF)

But the stat I would be more inclined to check on is the FG percentage.
That is a MUCH better indicator of a defender's effectiveness. If his man
averages 45% from the field, but so and so consistently holds him to 37%
(legally), then you know that man is doing something right

The opposite is also true. If a player averages 45% on FGs but against
so and so, his average shoots up to 55%, then you can safely say that
defender isn't doing a very good job

It's much tougher to gauge these days though. There is so much bad
shooting going on that FG percentages can be a little misleading as well

Cran,

I´ve watched games where Lindsey Hunter has completely thrown off the offensive flow of team with this tactic..fullcourt, body-to-body defense. By the time the gaurd actually get the ball up the court to start the offense...the shot clock is already at 10.

definitely a valid viewpoint.

here is something coach phil jackson had to say:

"[t]obe's defense, to be accurate, has faltered in recent years, despite his presence on the league's all-defensive team. the voters have been seduced by his remarkable athleticism and spectacular steals, but he hasn't played sound, fundamental defense. mesmerized by the ball, he's gambled too frequently, putting us out of position, forcing rotations that leave a man wide open, and doesn't keep his feet on the ground."

Shit. I'd say all of them need a lesson from the man himself.
