YouTube Plans To Make Conspiracy Videos Harder To Find

Once again, youtube is not taking down any videos. They are just not having them show up in the recommendations.
True.

I'm a fairly major YouTube watcher.

For myself, and I'm sure for many others, the recommendations comprise at least half of what I end up watching.

YouTube isn't doing some kind of public service with this. It's something else. One man's conspiracy theory videos are another man's Democracy Now.

I read the on-topic questions that dude asked and then read you sidestep them.

What question did I sidestep? He’s talking about YouTube censorship when youtube can do what it wants wit its platform.

If google decides it no longer wants to be in that business and closes youtube, is that censoring you guys too?

If you don’t like what a company is doing, find another one or start your own.

You're deflecting again with that imaginary scenario. We are talking about a media company choosing to essentially censor user submitted content - not about any entities shutting down their company.

So yall going to really trust YouTube in this kind of censorship. So who is the gatekeeper to what is a conspiracy and what isn't? What keeps the government or powers to be from using this type of censorship to keep people quiet when they might be on to something they don't want us to be on to? And once YouTube starts doing this, watch other's follow
In answer to your question. You sidestepped all that.

If you don’t trust Youtube, why are you using it?
Youtube is the gatekeeper to what it considers a conspiracy theory on its platform
The government is already doing this sort of thing, see Oprah vs beef farmers
Any company can do anything they want with their platforms. You can’t force them to publish what they don’t want to. Which is why you shouldn’t rely on youtube to be a primary source of information.

Nothing in his post was worthy of sidesteppjng

I don't fully trust any information platform and neither should anyone else, nor did I say anything about relying on YouTube as a primary source of information. I have made a number of statements in this post about the importance of critical analyzing data and how to go about it. YouTube has no direct equivalent with any other media entity. It is unique in both its reach + variety of content. Certainly, YouTube can do what it wants with their platform, as could Facebook or Instagram or Twitter.

People also reserve the right to call out what they smell as fuckery as intent and agenda goes in the case of YouTube's decision - which are two things you have had curiously few words about.

That's what Grand Jury, myself, Tall and a few others have been speaking about which is absolutely the most important point in all this.

Because when it comes to being a consumer, if you don’t like a company’s intent or agenda, you can consume elsewhere. In the end it doesn’t matter what their intent or agenda is. I don’t care because youtube is not that serious to me. Maybe they don’t want their platform to be thought of as a hub of conspiracy theories. Who knows.

People have the right to call it out. And they have the right to go elsewhere.

Tumbler stopped publishing porn on its platforms. Customers were pissed and a lot of them went elsewhere. Or started their own thing.

Bruh, I don’t know what you guys want. You complain for eight pages about youtube censoring you but refuse to go elsewhere. Or to make your own.
You question youtube’s agenda and intent but refuse to leave them.

If you don't care why are you so vocal in here... I don't care about flatearth convos and guess what other than maybe 1 or 2 threads where I cracked a few jokes I am no where to be found...lot of conspiracy threads and guess whose in it the guy that doesn't care mr big tex

That's YOUR suggestion and solution - a rather dismissive and overly simplified one coming from a dude who's not stupid.

You've been complaining for eight pages about people complaining, but you refuse to go elsewhere. Or to make your own BGOL.

Hmm.

So what’s your suggestion and solution?

And to use BGOL as an example, when HNIC makes decisions like the rules he put in place (lol) or opening it wide open, if we don’t agree with the decision, we can either stay or go. I posted my opinion in this topic and some people posted other opinions which is the purpose of a forum. HNIC has rules of stuff that is not allowed to be posted here. Is that censorship? Is he part of a sinister plot?

Lots of people didn’t like his rules and they left.

Once again, youtube is not taking down any videos. They are just not having them show up in the recommendations.

I watch YouTube more than any other network and those recommendations are responsible for at least 3/4 of the channels I'm subscribed to.

Removing recommendations puts a big dent in the content creator's pocket which means they either have to alter their information to stay competitive or shut their channel down completely.

For instance, one of my favorite channels is mic the vegan. He talks a lot about how adopting a whole foods vegan diet can help reverse heart disease, diabetes and even impotence. Is he going to lose recommendations under the guise that he's promoting false miracle cures?

Another of my favorites is telltale atheist. Like me the host is a former Jehovah's Witness who often exposes the corruption, propaganda and mind control this organization perpetrates. Is he going to lose recommendations under the guise that he's promoting a conspiracy?

You are free to disagree with anything these two men say. But what if they're right? What criteria does YouTube use to decide which information gets promoted and which gets buried? Do they use fact-checkers? Do they approached these content creators and give them a chance to back up their claims? Or do they judge it by what pisses off their advertisers?

I mean they are private company that can do whatever they want. But I would be very disappointed if the world's greatest platform for inspiration and information were ruined by this ridiculous policy.

Solution to what? That's your framing of this topic, not mine.

BGOL is not YouTube. Those two are apples and oranges. The primary differences being the power dynamic behind YouTube and its reach, corporate and potential political ties, variety and breadth.

Coming into this thread, I asked the questions: "What are the actual motives and who is behind this?"

What constitutes a "Conspiracy theory", in the negative sense of the term, is subjective.
Taking the term at face value, it merely means one theorizes that a conspiracy is involved in something.
Sometimes those theories are hogwash. Sometimes they are fact based.

The vagueness of YouTube's explanation is troubling.
It is concerning in the larger context of whether this trend of censorship will grow beyond the borders of YouTube.

If Trump could have his way, it most definitely would grow beyond YouTube, seeing as he attacks mainstream news as "fake" (translated: "full of crazy conspiracy theories")
when it comes to any negative critique of him.

As I said earlier, tight control of information and the squashing of dissent are rumblings of a totalitarian state.

I won't answer your question as to what's a solution, because I don't accept your framing of the topic + my primary interest is in who are the forces behind this, not whether or not I or anyone else stays. That's irrelevant except to those who would use that question to dismiss others' questions and concerns.
I will say though, at this point what will happen from here remains to be seen.

I'll keep watch to see if my YouTube recommendations change.
Since I don't deal in unsubstantiated theories - conspiracy or otherwise, if those recommendations do change, it will be confirmation some foul shit is afoot that isn't at all about what they are claiming.

Um, it’s Youtube’s platform. Are they not allowed to do what they want with their platform?
Are you that simple, where you didn't really understand what I typed. Rather than just answer the question, you deflect and state the obvious. Yes it's there platform, but what about what I said. YouTube which is probably the largest video content provider on the net without any oversight gets to decide what is a conspiracy and what isn't

Are you that simple that you don’t understand when you start a company, you get to decide what to do with it? Youtube is not a public service. And there is no injury to anyone. So why would the government have any say in what they do? They are not deciding what is a conspiracy theory for the internet. Just for their platform. They have rules on what can be posted and what can’t. Why is there no porn on youtube? Is that censorship? Why is there no gore on youtube? Is that censorship? Are you upset that they without any oversight get to decide what’s porn, what’s gore?

It’s not the government’s fault you guys give youtube the importance that it does. There’s nothing go stop people from posting their own videos. Or creating ConspiracyTube. You are the ones that want to force Youtube to recommend videos they obviously don’t want to.

And from a freedom point of view, a government that can tell a private company what they must recommend is not something anyone should want.

YouTube’s management team announced that they are no longer recommending what they consider Conspiracy Theory videos. You can either accept it’s their decision, or you can assign a nefarious theory behind it. Either way, your beef should be with YouTube’s management team.

Maybe youtube’s management thinks all these theories are crazy and they feel that they are contributing to the dumbing down of the culture, and as such they made a decision to try to lessen how aligned they are with these movements.

Maybe they want to limit their liability in case someone watches one of these videos and goes off and does something crazy.

They had to know that people who are given to see conspiracies everywhere would see this as another conspiracy, but they did it anyway. Comparing this to “the tight control of information”, “the squashing of dissent” and “ the rumblings of a totalitarian state” is beyond hyperbolic. The indormation is still there, can be posted anywhere, and you can go out tomorrow with a sign and show your dissent in front of the office.

Watching videos on youtube is hardly dissent.

So, bruh, continue watching your videos. They are still there. You may have to click the search icon and enter in text instead of having similar videos served up to you, but that’s hardly an overwhelming burden.

I never said watching videos on youtube is dissent. The information contained therein can be. I see you though. Your pathetic condescending song is the same from thread to thread. "You typed all that, now what are you gonna do about it." Guess what? People are still gonna express themselves. Don't worry about what people are gonna DO. You type like someone who hasn't ever participated in activism in your life the way you mock the process. I see you.

Continue pretending that Edward Snowden didn't expose our government's filthy drawers in terms of covert information gathering. Keep pretending Trump's condemnation of mainstream news as "fake" and untrustworthy, disdain for the Constitution, isolationist actions, hobnobbing with modern-day dictators, propagandizing of non-white immigrants, embracing of white immigrants, refusal to condemn white supremacist murderers - never happened, isn't documented and doesn't parallel Nazi Germany under Hitler.

"beyond hyperbolic". Heh. Go back to sleep. I'm done with you.

Every time I ask you guys for proof or a plan you just type a bunch of shit attacking me, declare you are done talking, and post neither proof nor plan.

Yeah continue to youtube and bgol the government to death. You’ll show ‘em.

Thank you for that predictable and wholly hypocritical * concession speech. I wish you a good day, sir.

And I hope the burden of having to click the search icon and type in the name of the conspiracy du jour instead of having them served up to you is not too much to bear. Be blessed. I pray for you conspiracy niggas daily,

*let it be noted that you never did lay out any plan of action if all these conspiracies are true.
