I was dunking in high school at 5' 8- and was able to well into my 30s (6'0) . These days,( 50+) my knees aren't what they used to be, but if I stretch/warm up first, and got a decent pair of kicks on, I might be able to touch the baseline...

I can't give you no more than that, fam..
50 is real fam. I use to be a dancing bear up till my early 40s.

Yes. He is on the yard. He should be in the rotation this year. He grew another inch his crab year. He left we were the same height now he is taller and still growing. He is going to pledge this year, 3rd generation!

Never heard you mention that you played ball on the board. How far did you go and what were your numbers like.

A Q and a baller. Favor isn't fair.

I can definitely still dunk

I can run probably 2 games

That sun up to sun down and then doing it again the next day shit is OVA

Man we used to shovel the courts to play basketball. Then play all day, cold fingers, snotty noses and hard fouls.

I can still dunk if given 10 chances. I wouldn’t dream of trying a two handed dunk at this stage in life.

I didn't hoop past high school. I was a double double machine in high school. I played football in college, I got cut a couple times in the league, never made it out of camp because my knees failed me when I needed them most.

I need to add one more thing, he has been working out 4hrs, 5 days a week since he has been back at home and boxing 1 day/week. He has put on 15lbs of muscle. They ain't ready.

I will admit that I'm 6, 3" and
I could never dunk on
regulation 10' rim. :( I have
come very close but no cigar. I
will also admit that I've never
played a lot of sports growing up
accept for playing basketball
in the neighborhood.
No shame in that. I got a cousin that is 6ft8 and didn't play basketball beyond his high school freshman year. He might be the tallest primerica negro in America.

I can pretty easily grab the rim, both hands....but I'm pretty sure that's all these days. I'm 6'4" though, so unfortunately that is a serious fall from my former ability.

Last time period that I played regularly, which is early 2000s, I was a good power dunker. Couldn't shoot consistently for shit  but I could leave the backboard shaking. Not playing or more to the point, jumping regularly really takes away those UPs  :(

Why no more than just grabbing the rim? Age? Injury? Weight?

by the way, for anyone who thinks they got the height in terms of jumping and is getting their had a goodly amount over the rim, but still not actually being able to dunk.... try finding a rim that is set a few inches lower than 10 feet and dunk on it a few times to get your technique down and then go right back to the 10 foot rim and give it a shot.
I'm saying this because in high school I was jumping out of the gym, way past my wrist on the rim, but every fucking time I tried to throw it down, the ball would pop out of my hand and I'd get a handful of rim... so I never got the chance to show off (was not successful with girls in school... that shit would have finally got me some pussy... I know it!) Few weeks after graduation, I happened to go to a court near my friends house to shoot around and it was a grammar school, and their outside rims were short, probably 9'6" or so for some reason. We were disappointed but stuck around dunking for the fun of it, then went back to my apartment complex where the rims were normal height, and guess what... boom. After that I don't think I ever missed a dunk again (uncontested that is).

All along it had been my technique. I don't have small hands, but not huge hands either. I can palm a ball that has good grip, but anywhere near slippery and no way. Dunking on the smaller rim had me not worrying about the height of my jump so I focused on how I held the ball and started cuffing it a bit, and that was all it took.

One other thing for anyone who is almost there. Those weird ass sneakers with the platforms on the front (see Seinfeld episode "The Jimmy") actually add on to your jumping ability, if they are still being sold even... I think they stretch your calf muscles. You wear those for 20 minutes and you will have extra spring.

I don't play anymore... last time I even played 1 on 1 was probably 2006. Never do anything that has me jumping around. I lift sometimes, and I throw a football around here and there, and do some biking, but nothing that keeps my jumping ability where it needs to be. So my natural height and leg strength will keep me grabbing the rim, but I have definitely lost some inches in my vertical. I think, at 52, if I played regularly and tried to get it back, I might be able to, but just no time.... and no motivation, lol.

So did dunking get you the girls?

38, 5'10. Haven't tested my vertical in years but in my high-school and college basketball years was always the highest jumper and best dunked.

Really missed those Midnight Madness days. That was really the only time I could show people on campus that I had bunnies lol...Just was hard as hell to dunk in games at 5'10 in college lol

But I may need to see if I still got it like that. Tore my achiellies heel about 7 years ago fucking around in a bullshit YMCA league.
