Understand that the elements that make up hip-hop, graffitti, breaking, rapping, DJing - all came together as a result of Herc and Bam in the early 70s. Herc brought with him the elements of the sound system and the DJ. Everything else formed around that.

I haven't read all the posts but the common sentiment I'm getting from Americans is that just because he's from Jamaica doesn't mean his creation is Jamaican by default. Einstein was from Germany but the Atomic Bomb was 100% American. So that is what I think a lot of people want to say but they just haven't found the way to say it.
