Just dropping some love from a post I did awhile back and though I would share.....
· Many of them could not communicate amongst themselves initially being from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds.
· Many of them were born not knowing any of their parents as they were sold to other plantations.
· Many of our women were raped.
· Those that dared to run away/ escape the system were hunted and brought back to make an example and instill obedience and fear.
Yet........... we survived.
We survived though we were called savages by those who were created by the same creator at the same time they were having fellow human beings treated worst than animals.
They were civilised while raping my grandmother and her mother because they greeted each other politely.
Yet............we survived.
400 years and many generations suffered.
Yet.............we survived.
We survived through resilience.
We survived through belief/faith
We survived by sticking together
Music was a tool we used to ease the burdens of life, it now fails to teach
Everyone on the paper chase, neighbors now fails to reach
Focussed on self, hoping the seeds they failed to water
Will some how grow like their seeds
Ignoring the nearby choking weeds
Planting peas and hoping to reap corn
They fertilize with their scorn
Hoping that their tree is called by a different name
Not understanding that we all look the same
For every hour we spend entertained
Is another hour we share the blame
For there is work to be done
But the workers are few
So are we going to rise up to the challenge
Or are we going to pretend we didn't know........
When I think back to our foreparents time, I wonder how much of us would cop out and say:
A. "fuck it i'm staying on the plantation"
B. "fuck it, changing things is impossible"
C "fuck it, there is not enough of us"
D. "fuck it, i'm good in the house those field negroes could stay there"
E. "fuck it, why can't these field negroes read and act right and try to get into the big house"
There are millions of whites that are on welfare, illiterate, missing teeth etc......
Don't be fooled by TV and the image they create for themselves.
We are now in the information age where no one body can have a firm grasp on the freedom of information sharing.
We are now faced with our great challenge of our generation:
Are we going to utilise the power that we possess using all available forms of media and take control of our image that is projected to the world?
That is the struggle.
Our image is being controlled by the media and is carving expectations into the minds of our children.
Expectations to be ignorant, to act in a certain way because we are defined by what is shown. It drives others perceptions of us when they deal with us.
That is the struggle because we can never get rid of the problems we have simply because no race have gotten rid of the very same problems.
Black Ignorance, white ignorance, asian etc
black poverty, white poverty, asian etc
black destructive behaviour, white destructive behaviour, asian etc....
We all have the same problems but we are not equally defined by them.
In this age, we have the internet, blogs, camera phones, digital cameras, google, yahoo, google maps etc.... to create something positive.
News is now being decentralised into the hands of those who choose to embrace it.
News websites now feature blogs etc.....
Are we going to try to structurally change the causes of our situation or are we going to try to keep highlighting the effect in the hopes that one ones who put us there would one day suddenly have a change of heart????
See when they teach you that the Abolition movement played a great part in ending slavery, when they teach you that Lincoln freed the slaves, it renders the struggle of your forefathers worthless.
It diminishes their role.
The effect of that schooling is that we as blacks now sit back and hope that the "modern day abolition movement" come running to help our cause.
We look for some savior riding in on a white horse to save us.
Fuck that. The truth is that thousands of us died for millions of us to be where we are.
So now in this time the question is, how many of us are going to step up for our generations to benefit?????
That is the psychology of the army, self sacrifice for love of country.
How many of us are willing to sacrifice though the odds may not be that good?
Never ever underestimate black resilience for we have been through much worst..................
If you want to step aside then fine, no worries.
Just don't stick your foot out or give your mouth liberty !!!!
Peace.

Without hope, a people is lost.
· Our foreparents were working against much greater odds. They started at the point where almost 99.9% of them could not read to understand their enslaver's communication.· Many of them could not communicate amongst themselves initially being from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds.
· Many of them were born not knowing any of their parents as they were sold to other plantations.
· Many of our women were raped.
· Those that dared to run away/ escape the system were hunted and brought back to make an example and instill obedience and fear.
