Yellowjackets discussion thread

Yellowjackets is a show with twists and turns baked into its DNA, so I can understand if some fans don’t want to read anything about what happens next. If that’s you, avert your eyes; for everyone else, I’m happy (?) to report that the four episodes provided to critics are seriously cuckoo bananas. A ton of bold choices are made—some engrossing, others mind-numbingly goofy.

I did not read beyond this...

“Part of that is my own cross to bear with looking like a child and being a 30 year old woman”

Damn… I never looked at Callie and saw a 30 year old.

Can’t believe it is midseason already. Just watched the latest episode. Will share thoughts soon.

Episode 5 spoiler:

Wow. Episode 6 was by far the best of the season. Makes up for the slow start.

My first thought was “This is how they get rescued. But I think they’re going to kill these people to avoid accountability for their actions.

‘Yellowjackets’ Streaming Viewership Pacing 39% Ahead Of Season 2

Since its February debut, the first episode of the new season has amassed 4.7 million global cross-platform viewers, Paramount Global says, marking a 131% increase. The Season 3 premiere is up 38% over the Season 2 premiere on streaming alone.

Gonna wait until all episodes debut, then binge them.

I just don’t have the patience to wait weekly for these shows.

HaHa!!!

I think that’s the best strategy for when it’s not good, like IMO the end of last season through the first four or so of this one.

But since it got really good in episode 6, I’m enjoying reading people’s theories and the speculation from week to week. It adds a big dimension to it that you don’t get from binging.

Putting some predictions on record before episode 8 comes out:

Melissa is alive.

It was Melissa who was in the bathroom with Shauna during Jeff’s meeting. But it’s not one person responsible for that, the brakes and the freezer.

I want to say Walter is framing Shauna… can’t figure out where they are going with him or Callie. A lot of people think Callie killed Lottie but I don’t see it.

Even though I don’t know his angle I’m gonna say Walter trapped Shauna in the freezer.

Shauna is the antler queen. She and Melissa will have some sort of rupture and Shauna will abandon her or trap her and convince the others she died.

The Shauna/Jeff/Callie family will have a major rupture because of Shauna, who is the bad guy of the show. I think Jeff and Callie will leave her.

Adult Shauna will kill someone and Misty will help her try to hide it. Shauna will at least ask nicely this time.

Kodak is responsible for the symbol being in the tree.

I don’t have a strong idea on who killed Lottie but I’m going to say Tai. No idea what they are doing with her and Van (the two most boring characters IMO)

Hannah will be Pit Girl and we will see the Pit Girl hunt in the season finale.

Fuuuucck. It’s a finale out?!!?!! Lmao

That first episode suuuuuccckkkkeeeddd

I couldn’t hang and waited too long to check the thread for improvement lmfao

*Read finale synopsis and the Goonies reference is too silly haha. Y’all enjoy. It’ll take me a good while to catch up on the whole damn season*

Season 2
10 Episodes

I started the season last night and finished up today on Paramount+.

There was a small time jump from what happened in season 2 finale that somewhat threw me off.

The season started off slow with the first 3 episodes, but picked up steam midway with episode 3.

Episode 6/7 gave an unexpected twist to the storyline introducing 3 new characters out in the wilderness when the girls were still out there.

Hints of Shauna being completely bat shit crazy has been shown since the pilot episode when she was a teenager and as an adult, we got to see how whacked out she is in this season.

Some surprise deaths happened. And we got to see the beginning of the Yellowjackets rescue.

As of now, we have seen 8 Yellowjackets survive to adults in the 3 seasons that have debut.

I believe there are 2 or 3 Yellowjackets left that have not appeared as adults and no information has been revealed if they were rescued.

The series can easily go 2 more seasons allowing enough time to give updates on some of the Yellowjackets we don’t know about.

It’s pretty obvious that Shauna and Missy will be the final two for the final battle, mainly cuz Melanie Lynskey and Christiana Ricci are the top billed stars of the series. Good chance their finale will be in season 5, or if the decision is made to conclude the series at season 4.

If nothing extraordinary happens in our Real World, hopefully season 4 debuts in 2027.

Looking forward to it.

‘Yellowjackets’ Finale Reaches 3 Million Viewers After One Week, Season 3 Becomes Show’s Most-Watched So Far

Compared to the Season 2 finale, that marks a 19% increase overall and a 54% increase when isolating for streaming viewership alone, according to a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on Showtime’s cable channel and Paramount Global’s own data regarding streams on Paramount+.

I can't believe a renewal didn't get announced before the season ended and still hasn't.

Wonder if it is over money or if its Showtime's belief in the show? There's speculation (uninformed, just people guessing) that it could be over whether the show goes on one or two more seasons. The original plan was 5,

Some people even have talked about the season finale functioning as a makeshift series finale, wrapping things up as much as you can if the show did not come back... Obviously that leaves a ton unresolved but I could see that as something the writers were going for.

‘Yellowjackets’ Renewed For Season 4 By Showtime

The April 13 finale became the most-streamed Yellowjackets episode in series history with 3M global viewers in seven days across linear and streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime, per parent company Paramount Global, which also reported that Season 3 was the series’ most watched to date as well as the most engaged on social media.

“Yellowjackets has become a cultural juggernaut, with season three shattering all previous records – we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. “Ashley [Lyle] and Bart [Nickerson] have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon— a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller, and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”

I expected this series to go 5 seasons.

Hopefully they wrap everything up in the final season.

Looking forward to it.

I can see it ending at 4. If it went to 5, I would expect that season to show the teens lives post-wilderness. After killing Natalie in season 2, the writers seem to be running out of ideas on how to keep the adult plot lines interesting.

And with the teens being rescued soon, the entire theme of the show would likely have to change to make a 5th season work.

I was thinking Season 4 would introduce the rest of the girls who survived. I believe there are 1 or 2 unaccounted girls that we have not seen as adults yet.

Season 4 would show the rescue and them arriving home and starting the scheme of keeping quiet on what happened.

And a couple of surprise deaths with the adults in Season 4.

Then season 5 wraps it up. It’s pretty obvious the final battle will be between Shauna (Lynskey) and Missy (Ricci) since they are the top stars of the series and everything pretty much revolves around those two.

The final Season will be interesting.

They have a five season plan.

With the adults, two seasons in, who knows where they are going? I have no idea, either. I know they're dealing with their trauma and reunited as a group after 25 years but I couldn't tell you what the payoff is supposed to be there.

But with the teens, we know that they were in the wilderness 19 months. Shauna had a pretty well-developed pregnancy, so assuming she got pregnant from the Jeff hook up before they left, we are at most about 9 months through out of 19 before they are rescued. Halfway through season 2, that's just under half of their journey.

They talk throughout the show about how bad those 19 months were and there's public speculation about cannibalism. The show is supposed to be about their descent from a cohesive team to warring, cannibalistic clans. I think the payoff is twofold: 1. How did that happen? 2. How bad did it get?

I'm wondering if we see them divide into tribes this season. I think worst-case scenario, the very start of that is the season two cliffhanger. That would be lame as far as payoff. I don't think there will be payoff as far as understanding what happened in the show's opening scene until season 3.
Well, that turned out to be wrong.

Then season 5 wraps it up.
That's the thing: there may not be much to wrap up after season 4 depending how they write it. I don't mind a series ending with some unanswered questions if comes to that but it may not. They can introduce the remaining adults in season 4 and tie things up pretty neatly if they want.

I was right about the plan, shit just didn’t go according to plan.

My post was all about why the plan seemed not to be working.

I was dead on right here:

Are you The Catcher In The Rye? If not I'm confused.

You were right about that but I didn't look at the date. Did you call it before season 2 ended?

Yes, was off the board for a while and came back with that name briefly before going back to my original handle.
So, when you said lightbright didn't like "new members" you were just playing a role because you definitely wasn't a new member in 2023 if you've been here since '04?

I was calling out his effort to derail the thread. “I’ve made two threads and you’ve entered both within 5 minutes.” He was on some psycho shit.

But the thread became a good one so no need to get into non-Yellowjackets bullshit now.

Cool. You stopped writing episode synopses. You gonna start doing that again?

I intend to— didn’t intend to stop. I had little notes drafted for some episodes toward the end of the season but I guess I was busier/distracted and never got them fleshed out the way I wanted. But I like writing out my thoughts so I can review them later and see where I was right and wrong and I like reading other people’s interpretations and predictions as well.

Really appreciate your updates. I am very tuned in once the season starts but I would not have known about this for a while if not for you posting it.
