They raised Mariano too. But I feel you. I grew up as a Yankeee/Met fan, but it does sort of make you wanna root against them. And you hope it's the squad with the $11 million dollar team payroll that beats them too.

I was not thrilled nor excited by the signing of Nick Swisher (1B-OF), and predicted that he would be traded soon. Although the trade has not happened yet, signing Mark Teixiera is a stroke of aggression needed by the Yankee management. Swisher, like most pro athletes, will NOT want to occupy the 'pine'...playing sparingly. Especially knowing that he'd be starting for several other teams. So expect him to ask for his exit, via a trade.

I mentioned in a posting here that Teixiera had a 'nostalgia' past regarding the Yankees ( former Yankee Don Mattingly was his fav). But money always replaces 'nostalgic'...a phenomena of today's athlete. Steinbrener knows that, and plays it to the hilt.

For the record: Angels offered: $160M/8-Yrs.; and the Red Sox upped it to $170M/ 8Yrs, befor the Yankees moved in with $180/8yrs.

Is this end? Who knows.

Swisher automatically moves to the OF to play LF, Damon back to CF (or reverse this) and Nady to RF. Matsui can play sparingly in LF, move Swisher to CF and sparing play Damon at DH as well. So no trade needed unless they actually go after Cameron again.

Yankee Manager Joe Giardi was quoted saying that he Definitely DOES NOT want to use Johnny Damon in CF (Leg problems and weak throwing arm). He plans on using him in LF, solely. Nady will be in RF (they traded away a top prospect last year for Nady, and are not about to trade him). Swisher is too good to ride the bench, and playing sparingly would not suit him. Plus, you don't sign a man for $10M to play 'sparingly' and relieve another player. At his age , it wouldn't make sense. He would have good 'trade value'.

The 'hype' surrounding Swisher as a potential "comeback" player is predicated on his getting enough 'swings' necessary for him to make that happen. Now that Teixiera is on the scene the 'swings' won't be there.....especially as a parttime player. And, as you know, 'parttime play breeds slumps and resentment. Unless Swisher readily accepts his 'reduced' role, his departure is inevitable. Not his fault...stuff happens!

Matsui would relieve Damon, and DH. I hear that Cabrea is tearing up the Winter League. Who knows, he may reclaim his old position---unless Cameron drops into the picture.

Manny ain't shit in the field. Seriously, he doesn't play great out there at all, and I know a lot of people ignore that because of his bat, but I don't feel like we need him. I would rather see the money go to another pitcher or perhaps a reliable bridge to Mariano.

Swisher may not have hit for a high batting average, but it makes no less a "good player". In fact, most players don't hit for a high average, especially .300. Nevertheless, his OBP (on base percentage--.300+) and SLG (slugging percentage--.440+) have always been good. He's the kind of player you would klike to see in the line-up everyday. He was known as "Mr. Clutch" while with the "A's". Plus, he plays good "D". That's why the White Sox got him. Betemit, on the other hand, was just the opposite, AKA, 'crap'.

Manny's not that bad of a fielder-despite his 'unexpected & unexplanable surprises', e.g, intercepting or cutting-off a throw from his CF'er during an important game. In fact, he'll never win a Gold Glove, but his FLDg % over 16-years has always been above the mid-.900, during his tenure with the Indians, Red Sox, and Dodgers.
