fuck i paid a grand for my Sony wega back in 1999 and now i cant even give it away , I would have to pay someone to pick it up and haul it away

if u get plasma your dumb as hell

This ... I copped a plasma and gave it to a close relative ... the technology is worse than the tube imo ... maybe I'm trippin

Only good part is the aspect ratio and thin profile ...

LCD is what I am looking to get to upgrade my set up for the CPU

As a main TV I will say no but anything else I would say yes...I would hold off on that purchase because I think you could do better. Actually it's the best deal on the net as of now for a tv under those specs.

the whole 720 vs 1080 and lcd vs plasma is ridiculous.

RnB Thug said it the best:

I hate these kinda threads cause everybody
wants to think that their TV is the best.
Imma keep this simple and factual

Plasmas give the best picture
Best Contrast Ratio (NO LCD or LED is higher)
Most Colors
Fastest Refresh Rate (No LCD or LED is Faster)

Negatives
Power Consumption (Newer ones Tend to rate better here)
Tend to Get Hot

720p Debate

- The Human Eye CANNOT tell the difference
between a 1020 & 720 from more than 5 Feet
it's just not possible.
Why would you sit closer than
5 Feet when You have a 42 inch or bigger TV?
If you have a 50 Inch it changes to 7 Feet

People still buying 720's? Any good deals out there on 1080's?

720 is fine vvvvv

I know a fair bit about televisions and electronics.

This is a great deal for the MONEY. Can you buy a BETTER television? Absolutely! but it will cost you about 2x as much for someting that is NOTICEABLY better.

Don't listen to "most" of these guys posting about 720P vs. 1080P... they do not know what they are talking about.

720P is going to "suffice" for overwhelming majority of content that you will be watching.

Regular network HD either via cable or satellite programming is in 720P or 1080i. The Sanyo TV will be able to show you this.

The ONLY content that is readily available in 1080P are:
  • Blu Ray Movies
  • "some" pay per view movies on Direct Tv.

Really unless you have a TRAINED eye and (2) television sets side-by-side for comparison. You will not be able to tell the difference between 720P vs. 1080P

So for the $MONEY$ the Sanyo is a good set.

Ok, on some real shit, Im gonna cop a TV in the next few weeks. 42 inch for like 500-600. People are telling me that the knocks on Plasmas are outdated, and LCDs are overrated. I honestly dont know what to think anymore. I want a good TV that I can count on for a good 5-7 years with no problems. Its gonna replace my old main TV. Any suggestions???

People talking about Plasma's like this is 6 years ago. Plasma gives you more bang for your buck. People with backlit LED-LCD's will never be able to see what TRUE black and white levels are. Burn in is a non factor for todays plasma's. I mean to each their own but Id rather get a 60+ inch TV than a 42 inch TV for the same price.

Yall really need to read threads at the avs forum. Them cats their actually know what they talking about when it comes to TV's, Blu Ray players, media builds, streaming media players, etc.

You bought a cheap ass one or you're lying.

bullshit..I can easily walk into Walmart or Best buy and tell the difference(on 40in and up).....and those Samsung LED's are shitting on everything

That's because they have that 300 dollar calibration job done to them. I worked at best buy last holiday season and the pioneer and panasonic plasma's with the calibration killed all the other shit.

walmart has a Panasonic 42in for $478 or get the one the op suggested for $400. Personally I would go with the Panasonic because of the great reviews it gets. Either way do whats best for your wallet.

Its funny. These clowns dont realize how uninformed they sound when they start that "720 is garbage" nonsense.

Funny how everyone that claims 1080 is better has yet to respond with facts.
