My grandmother had my Mom when she was 15 back in the 1940's. Back then it was commonplace for that to happen, with grown men in their 20's and 30's. Had this been the 1940's, nobody would have said anything about R Kelly fucking a 15-yr old. While the law defines R Kelly as a rapist, what R Kelly did isn't considered pedophilia because the cutoff age for that is 13.
With all that said, R Kelly broke the law. The age of consent in Illinois is 17. Marvin Gaye, in his time fucked a 16-yr old and a 17-yr old, but that might have been legal because in most US states at the time the age of consent was 16. Not only did R Kelly break the law, he videotaped it, peed on the girl and she didn't look like she was fully developed. Was it a crime against nature? Debatable. Would I have wanted to put hands on him had that been my daughter? ABSOLUTELY. Because in current times, it has become beyond commonplace to know that girls under 18 are off limits to grown men. We now know the human brain isn't fully developed until 25, so R Kelly in current times, had no business being 30, fucking with girls that were 15. Aaliyah included.
So Marvin Gaye does get looked at sideways, but R Kelly fully made his bed for this shit he's caught up in now.
