WTF happened to good R&B artists? They must have said fuck making CDs because of bootleggers!

imo this is the number 1 reason
too many RnB cats wanna be rappers and conversely too many rappers dipping their toes in singing

when its all said and done R&B music suffers.
R&b and hip hop started mixing well before Drake...late 90s early 00s change everything

R&B and Hip-Hop Have Coalesced Into a Single Genre

While the two genres were long independent styles, each with their own unique sound and melody that explored and discussed different subject matters, today’s hip-hop and R&B are practically the same genre. Almost every R&B track has a rap verse and many rappers have incorporated singing into their style. The once romantic, sentimental ballads of yesteryear’s R&B have been replaced by club-styled tracks that are nearly indistinguishable from hip-hop.

THIS altered everything else...THIS caused the other 7 issues..

And if you like this Style... then you can't overlook my boy from St. Louis.. Brian Owens.

To be honest.. I think R&B is in better hands then it has been in years. The problem is that it is fucking hidden from the rest of the world. Trapsoul get's airplay while real music gets pushed to the background.

YEAH THERES SOME GOOD R&B OUT THERE, BTU UTS MAINLY NOT PROMOTED ,
BUT YEAH UR THREADS PUT ME ON SOME GOOD R&B ACTS AND OTHER JOINTS TOO! GOTTA PUT A LIL REPEK ON YA NAME MANG!!

Wake up: White Pop music is R & B, White gentrified the genre. They on some manifest destiny shit with OUR R & B.
WRONG!!!
It's not that you ain't shit if you don't like it. It's just different choices. That's why I posted the ones I did. None of those people sound alike they're all unique and you can find a flavor within some of them.
Which is the point.
People think oh all black artists want to do is trap and i just posted 9 different types of different types of r%b that was released last year and this year and it didn't take me 5 minutes to do it.

white r&b is pushed and acceptable
bj the chicago kid been sounding like marvin gaye for the past 5 years and he ain't get no shine at all

THEY DONT HEAR U THO! AND FUCK ALL THE FAKING ASS WHITE ARTIST WHO GET THE ROCK N ROLL ELVIS BUDDY HOLLY TREATMENT! THEY'LL NEVER MAKE R&B WORTH A DAMN!
R&B IS MORE THAN NOTES & A HOT PRODUCER ,ITS ALSO AN ATTITUDE AND U CANT LEARN OR BUY THAT! ITS IN UR BLOOD!

Everything sounds the same and its all wack. Even alot of the shit you guys posted in this thread. Im like..ok sounds decent.
But the production is all the same. And the singer and rapper mixup is cool if the production is GOOD. Kinda like Bryson Tiller's album or back when I actually liked Drake with So Far Gone.
But all that shit gets repetitive after so long too. Muthafuckas trying to make radio hits, not good music.

I was listening to some old CDs fron the 90s and around 2000 and artists were dropping some tight music back then.

But now, it seems that no good artists are dropping CDs like they used to!

I'm thinking that the creation of the CD burner and the internet fucked their paydays up so badly that they must have said "Fuck making good music just to let these bottom feeding bootleggers make money on my shit!" :dunno:

Now, it's just a bunch of bullshit being released.

It looks like we will NEVER get back to the days when every couple weeks, another one of your favorite artists drops a killer CD. :smh:

There's still some good R&B artist around, some are touring on the oldies circuits others are doing shows at casinos. But many are going into retirement. Anita Baker announced her retirement last week and Aretha Franklin is finally calling it quits. She announced her intent today.

But none of these artist can get airtime except on satellite radio or the few weekly oldie shows like Felix Hernandez WBGO 88.3 FM in Newark and Youngblood WALR 104.1 FM in Atlanta. Both on Saturday morning. I'm sure there's others around. But lets be real free radio has never been worse than it is today.

All that trappy, futuristic R&B shit is cool, sometimes.

But me personally, I gotta keep me some smoothed out, groovy shit with live instruments, its like it calms the soul or some shit like that.

But you gotta look for shit like that.

World premiere of my newest discovery..... from Miami..

I'll have her EP in my music thread shortly...

yeah mang! keep me in the loop on thsi artist! i always be up in ur thread! cos alot of good shit i discovered thru ur threads, truth be told, i done bought a bunch of artists' music thru ur thread , so its gotta be worth something!! cos i end u supporting the artists and buying their shit , i have an emusic account so i get alot of indie acts on discount on my purchases

I agree there is good R&B being made still they just aren't pushing it anyone you not gonna see it in TV you not gonna hear it on the radio times have changed from when we were growing up. I'm an 80s baby growing up jammin 90s R&B and coming into my own with the late 90s to early to mid 2000s R&B not to mention my parents blasting the 70s and 80s classics it's certainly different now cuz that's the type of shit that was praised at that time and rightfully so. You can still find some shit as Bills has shown but you gotta seek it out. I listen to the old shit all the time and those 90s and 2000s acts are starting to just tour with the old music that's good enough for me. Good chance for a nice night out with ya lady.

BounceBeats on Bounce TV promote R&B. It usually on at odd hours like prospectives

There's a bunch of great new R&B being made and released. Much of it is not being promoted nor played on mainstream R&B radio stations. Some of your favorite old-school artists still make records and there are a lot of newer folks putting it down too.

There are no longer DJ's creating playlists based in part on what the listening audience wants to hear. Now there are on-air personalities who are given playlists by their bosses within the monopolized corporate radio station structure.

A lot of great new R&B music would nowadays be classified as Neo-Soul. And some years ago, when MTV was hot, someone decided to relegate that Neo-Soul over to VH1 - which effectively removed it from the realm of mainstream R&B and turned it into a sub-genre. Some foul shit, if you ask me.

Now, it's up to us to use net resources to seek out the good stuff. Services like Spotify are a good starting point.

What made New Edition a great group. Music? or everybody in the neighborhood was listening to it. I think it was the latter.

Props.... Very thorough and informative analysis.

One of my favorites... Her album was slept on.

You reminded me that I need to post her earlier albums in my thread. I finally got a hold of her Sweet Soul Music and I love You albums.

The only reason,I know her was because someone posted a story about her turning down the Best Hip Hop Artist award,a few months back.

I decided to download her album and I really like it.

Let me,know when you post the others
