would you use a service to verify someone's hiv status?

let's say you link up with someone but before you hit you want to swap the results of your last hiv test via text or provide a site link. would you be interested in such a thing?

Why do you want to know...?

well let's say you meet someone and both parties are interested in doing a lil something...so you swap std information just to make sure you're both taking care of business.

or even if you're in a relationship and want to get tested every once in a while along with your partner

It's not a new idea, there is such testing going on already. Any measures someone uses to prevent the spread of AIDS/HIV is a great idea. The risk behavior associated with the disease is the big danger...

This won't be endorsed on any large scale. Medical records aren't publicly available for a reason.

As far as the sexual side, everyone should have been doing this on a personal level years ago.

well maybe the medical community could somehow separate std information from other medical information. std's are a social disease, meaning we ALL need to be concerned because you can easily be the next victim....why not give people the option of sharing that information privately with their sex partners

If someone wants to share private medical information, all they have to do is sign a medical release/HIPPA form authorizing release of information to the person it is to be shared with. No ?

right! i'm just not sure how much medical information that involves. if it's for a purpose of checking hiv status, i wouldnt be interested in someone's cancer treatment or hypertension diagnosis. i'm saying the std stuff could be separate. there is site that does this hiv program already, was just wondering if there were any others out there. the site is qpid. me

I agree on the social aspects, yes they affect everyone and everyone should be concerned and be responsible...but that's my personal feeling, not everyone's.

While you and I can agree on the need for some transparency, there's also the fact that you're not proposing this as a public service but a paid one. You're also severely underestimating just how much sexual repression exists in the US, and those two obstacles right there would kill pretty much any initiative you're proposing. For one thing you'd have a fight on your hands from the religious idiots claiming you're promoting promiscuity, and on the other hand you'd have a fight from other idiots claiming you're trying to profit off of people's suffering. None of it might be in any way true but those just two of the practicalities...and that's just off the top of my head, I'm sure that there are other variables.

here is one service that's being used...created by a black dude in brooklyn. you can download the APP on iTunes. I say give it a try at least, read it over, support the black dude. i know some other services starting to come though...hope this black guy prevails...he's been doing it since 2008

New Facebook app could tell you if you might have an STD

In the latest social media foray into previously private topics, a group of researchers wants to use Facebook to prevent the spread of STDs such as HIV and syphilis. Ideally, a Facebook app could let you alert a private circle of friends/partners that you'd caught an infection (or vice versa). While this might be effective, the obvious hurdle is the embarrassment of posting on Facebook that you have a stigmatized STD, even when using privacy controls. (Remember those party pictures you thought only three other people could see?) Notifying partners you've tested positive for an STD is a law in some states, so this could make the process easier. And surely the possibility of embarrassment is worth saving your friends' lives, right?

Why not just keep the disclosure between the two (or more) participating sexual parties ???

It seems clear that making general disclosures is fraught with privacy problems and bound to cause ruination in one way or another. If the "participating sexual partners" won't just be honest and frank with each other, I doubt any other disclosure mechanism will be worth jack.

P.S.

If someone is looking at this as a business opportunity, what insurance company would provide liability coverage for (a) disclosure of the protected information outside of the intended parties or (2) erroneous information (i.e., false negatives) ??? And, if one would, at what cost ???

Well the disclosure is between the two or more parties. You decide who gets access to see your test results and when you last took the tests. That information isnt open to the general public. No liability...at the end of the day, people are responsible for their own actions. These services aren't giving you the green light to fuck...they are only giving you information...the last time someone tested for stds and what their results were.

Okay Bro; my only point is: why involve a third party intermediate to do what 2 consenting parties can do themselves??? By involving an intermediate, you're only providing an additional avenue (in addition to the 2 consenting parties) for private information to get disclosed to parties who were never intended to receive the information, i.e., someone at the service sells the information or just gives it away to embarass or for profit; or a hacker or thief gets the information from the service and does who knows what with it.

But hey, if it makes sense for someone to use a 3rd party service to exchange information that 2 consenting adults could exchange themselves, then do it !!!!

Surely, what seems sensible to one person can appear senseless to another, and vice versa.
