...if any one thing about your life was different?

If you're like me you recognize there are things you need/want to improve and you work on them in order to become a better person. While understanding the need for change in certain areas, overall I am happy with the man that I am and I feel that (all of) the things that have and have not happened in my life to this point (28 years) have contributed to that. Examples are growing up in a single parent home, experiencing life and death in, and even my birth date and sign have all created me as I am. To me if any 1 of the things in my life was different I would be different... How do all feel about that statement and (how) do you think you would be different if you walked in another person's shoes. How would your personality be the same or different if you were the opposite sex, or if you were another race or religion, etc.? For those of you who were raised by one parent, would you change that if you had the power to do so? I know in my situation I wouldn't. I was raised by my mother from the ages of 5-18 (I left for college at 18) and despite the fact that I sometimes look at the father-son relationships of others and feel it would have been nice to have that, I honestly wouldn't have kept my father in the house for longer than he was. He and I have a pretty good relationship as men, but he did drop the ball as a father to me, my brother and sister (they were raised by their mother). It is what it is and I feel that in my next father-son relationship (when I am the father) I'll give my son(s) what I didn't have. Anyway, that's enough about me. BG/SOL if you would take some time to think about this and holla back with you responses...

I feel our experiences mold us into who we are so I'm pretty sure if anything about my life in the past was different I probably wouldn't be the person I am today ... good or bad ... I would have liked it if my parents taught me some of the life lessons I had to learn on my own ... could have saved me some heartache ... that whole "back home" mentality doesn't cut it when you move to another country so they should have taught me about the differences in people in North America as opposed to my birth country

I definitely believe that your past helps shape your present and your present helps shape your future. What we go through in life (that doesn't kill us) makes us stronger individuals. The key to survival is being stronger than your circumstances. Take your life lessons and share them with others. You'd be surprised how much you can help someone by sharing just a few words with them.

I concur with all above said statements. The experiences, and more importantly, our interpretation of those experiences are the building blocks of our persona. I really enjoy OWL's company, and OWL is really a blessing to be. We have encountered many hardships and learned many lessons by running through brick walls, but I truly love living my life. Things that I plan on making better about OWL are for the future, and are only to help us reach that next summit, as far as the past, my adventures in babylon have given hope and inspiration to many people, so OWL no longer concerns himself with rewrites, just rereads...

What country are you from? Maybe your parents couldn't explain these people to you. I will never understand these people :smh:

To answer the thread question, IMO, we basically are the sum total of our experiences so no nobody could be the same person.

If something was different how would you be different? What do you think would be the same?

Got to be something in the wind....

Any who...

I hate to be so phucking technical, but we are all apart of the two continents that got raped and pillaged after gog and magog were released from the caves...we are all descendants of slaves..

So, being from the islands makes you more black, or more culturally in-tune? Ma, you sound like the beast telling me I'm ghetto and uncultured. I guess if I said you are less black because, physically, you ARE less black, then that would be an acceptable response?

I definitely agree with the OP, if things had been different I would not be who I am. I used to always want to live with my mom growing up versus my grandparents, but now that I'm older I know that I'd been someone totally different. And it makes me appreciate my grand parents so much more. I have learned to accept everything in my past because I absolutely LOVE who I am NOW...

I don't want to get too personal Cleo, but if you don't mind me asking why weren't you with your mom? Do you have relationship with her now? What is the nature of that relationship? If that's not something you want to discuss (in public) I can respect that, but can you at least speak on the values, life lessons, etc., you got from your grandparents that would not have come from your mom or anyone not old enough to have lived through what your grandparents did? How did what they taught you mold you in to who you are now?

I didn't say a thing about more or less black. You the one who wanna play who blacker than who. Americans behave like Americans. Americans from the US.

If I had known and understood what anxiety was back when I was a kid my life would have been WAY different. Now that I'm grown and know what it is I work with and around it but back then it held me back big time.

Let me see, hmmmmmmmm.

Father who did not recognize his offspring until i was four years old, Mother who was never there for me emotionally after i passed the age of eleven.

Raised myself emotionally and mentally on my own with books, television, the media and other peoples actions as my guides in life with occasional financial input from my stepmother who viewed me as her retirement plan:hmm::smh:.

Life does not always use a gentle hand in guiding you through its many and varied paths but your experiences and what you take from them will make you or break you.

Wow, life can be pretty rough. Glad you made it out of some extreme circumstances. I definitely agree with that last statement.

Nothing extreme about it. A lot of people went through far worse than me and i just make the most out of the time i have here or try to.

Anyone of us could die at any given moment and unless you are famous, you will be remembered and judged by your actions and the way how you treated the people in your life.

WTF man, are you depressed or something? I grew up with my mom raising me and my dad was always there no matter what happened. so I'm happy, I wouldn't change my life for anything. Glad to hear. You're 28 so I see your being very introspective. it happens. Do what you can with your future son and don't repeat the cycle that your dad with you, plain and simple

Thank you for sharing. And to answer your question know I am not depressed. I feel great about life and the possibilities for the future. Once again Pain, I was just thinking about something and said fuck I'll make a thread. Don't worry about me, I'm good and my kids will be good as well. You mentioned my age, are you older? Do you get introspective at all?

well, that introspective shit is something my co-worker, who'd older than me, had mention to some dude around your age. I work for the public, so I get to deal with kids and adults all day. I was just wondering what the fuck's going on?
Just don't go overboard, you'll be OK, mayne. I know I can be what my name states, but damn, I just don't think you should think like this, that's all

For a minute there I was thinking you were living up to that name for real . Whatever the case may be I think it's good to think about real shit from time to time. I don't always post shit like this but today I felt like asking what others think about stuff like this. If you don't want to go there cool, but for me getting deep is a good thing sometimes. If you're interested I posted some fresh porn on the main board in a thread called "Enter if you like porn". Stop by there and enjoy...

I wouldn't change my upbringing, my road towards my livelihood or anything like that, but I probably would've liked to stop being an asshole towards women, but I'm too deep into it now, lol

 I enjoy OWL's company too

...I think for those people that have reached a certain clarity about who they are and on a generally even keel with the path of their life at present this is a tough question. Any one thing can change everything and there's sooooo much I cherish and love about IZA's life now that I wouldn't change anything.

Why are Owl and Alexand banned?

Oh yeah. I love me and if anything in my history was changed I would not have as much confidence, love, and success in my life
