Public Relations Assistant - Minnesota Timberwolves/Lynx (Minneapolis, MN)
SUMMARY: This entry-level public relations assistant position will work with both of the organization's franchises - the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA's Minnesota Lynx - rotating between teams during each respective season. The candidate will work very closely on the day-to-day operations as well as strategies and objectives of the department. Attendance at all Timberwolves and Lynx home games is required and the job includes weekend work. Responsibilities in the fast-paced environment to include, but not limited to, the following: managing teams' game-day presentation, overseeing credentialing process, writing press releases and overseeing media monitoring system.
JOB SPECIFICS:
Manage teams' game day presentation/setup (media room/press area).
Press seating set up, seating chart, game notes printing
Manage media credentialing process.
Oversee the teams' media monitoring system.
Logging and recording video news reports and on-air coverage
Manage the teams' news clippings system (local & national).
Scanning & archiving clips system
Responsible for content and delivery of media packets for visiting teams.
Work game nights to assist with department and media needs.
Responsible for Wolves/Lynx media publications - e-mail newsletters.
Develop/write content for teams' website - timberwolves.com and lynxbasketball.com - as needed.
Assist with media interview requests (Wolves/Lynx).
Serve as the department’s contact person for community newspapers.
Pitch stories and develop mini pr campaigns surrounding team events.
Write press releases.
Assist in covering teams' practices.
During Lynx season work closely with the Lynx day-to-day pr person.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
4-year college degree required OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Degree in journalism, public relations, or communications preferred
Previous public/media relations or sports information experience a plus
Solid knowledge of the NBA and basketball statistics and/or working knowledge of the NBA's & WNBA's stats system helpful
Ability to travel with Lynx in pr capacity as needed
Demonstrated organizational skills
Proficient in multi-tasking under time constraints
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people
Strong writing & communication skills required.
