Job Summary/General Description:

This position will be responsible for directing all Trail Blazers marketing activities while adhering to the Trail Blazers brand platform. VP will directly oversee the following specific areas: event management, grassroots marketing, database marketing, advertising, Internet, creative services, media buying and research.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Primary responsibility is to leverage the brand platform to key target audiences (e.g. staff, partners, new targets) across all channels for the purpose of retaining and increasing sales in all primary revenue streams
Close management, supervision, coaching and development of direct reports who manage key revenue producing channels, including internet, database marketing, game operations, events, advertising, design and marketing services
Work in concert with VP of Communications leveraging the brand across other non-direct revenue channels such as public relations and community relations
Collaborates and communicates on a daily basis with VP of Ticket Sales & Service and VP of Corporate Sales & Service. Leads annual process through which key targets and strategies to go to market are identified.
Foster a culture in marketing based on development of new sales, creativity, exploration of emerging trends, and thoughtful risk taking
Develops and executes comprehensive marketing plans and programs, both short and long term, to support sales and revenue objectives for the organization
Effective fiscal manager with an ability to find creative cost management solutions while achieving organizational marketing objectives in an efficient manner, while maximizing return on investment
Establishes and maintains a consistent brand image through adherence to team identity/logo guidelines
Acts as the liaison with team advertising agency of record and with other outside agencies on ongoing promotional campaigns
Monitors local and national marketing trends
Guides preparation of marketing activity reports and presents to executive management
Qualifications (educational requirements, certification or licensing standards, experience and basic knowledge requirements):


Requires a bachelor's degree with at least ten years of progressive experience in marketing or related function
At least five years of management experience including budget management
Prefer three to five years of experience specific to sports marketing
Prefer two to three years direct sales experience
Experience managing large expense budget, with track record for setting and achieving quantitative marketing objectives
Experience working and leading an “in-house” marketing operation
Leader, coach, teacher, developer
Quick decision-making and comfort with risk
Living embodiment of Trail Blazer brand (open, different, confident and connected)
Experience identifying, managing and measuring marketing programs and creative campaigns
Knowledge of current online marketing and permission marketing strategies
Skill and experience in negotiating strategic media deals
Experience in managing successful large events
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong strategic, analytical and organizational capabilities
Adept and eager to work cross-functionally with communications, corporate sponsorship, ticket sales and service and administrative services
