Rockets re-sign Lucas

July 28, 2006

HOUSTON (AP) -- The Houston Rockets signed free agent guard John Lucas III to a multiyear contract on Friday after waiving him in January.

The 5-foot-11 Lucas originally signed with Houston on Dec. 29. He was waived on Jan. 4, then signed two 10-day contracts before he was released on Jan. 28.

Lucas averaged 23 points and 7.6 assists for the Rockets in five summer-league games. Last season, Lucas averaged 2.3 points in 13 games.

Lucas III, the son of former NBA star John Lucas, Jr., also played in 35 games with the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League in 2005-06.
