Community Relations: Community Relations Dept. Management


Community Relations Manager - San Francisco 49ers (San Francisco, CA)


Reports To: VP, Communications
Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for directing the planning, development, implementation, administration and budgeting of most or all of the following Community Relations department functions: community outreach programs, NFL community relations, sponsor community programs, publications and website (as they relate to community relations) game day community affairs, and training camp community events. This position is also responsible for representing the Club to the greater Bay Area.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Community Relations – Work with community, and non-profit leaders throughout the SF Bay Area to develop and manage high visibility programs based on the Club’s objectives and area of focus. This includes managing corporate sponsor programs, stadium drives, volunteer events, community outreach efforts, and Club and NFL fan and charity programs.
NFL Community Relations - Works closely with the NFL national office, and serves as the 49ers liaison involving all of the national programs (Community Quarterback award, Coach of the Week, NFL High School Tuesday, Hometown Huddle). Submits all grant requests for NFL-partnered programs, and effectively manages all secured funding received from the NFL. Prepares all end of the year program reports for the NFL. Creates stories and outreach for NFLHS.com & NFL Network involving 49ers.
Partner Community Relations - Establishes working relationships with various non-profit causes. Foster player and staff involvement and passion for a cause.
Publications and Website - Works directly with the publicity manager to highlight 49ers Community Outreach events to gain media recognition and exposure. Works with PR production team to include community activities in the publications (i.e. Game day, Tailgate Times, Media guide, yearbook, Provide content and photos for website postings and other publications.
Day of Game Community Affairs – Oversees all logistics for season day of game promotional drives (i.e. Holiday food Drive, cell phone drive, Toy Drive, Back to School supplies Drive). Serves as primary liaison with Stadium operations regarding all day of game CR activity surrounding drives and restricted seating for CR invited groups. Directly responsible for all community Scoreboard materials related including upcoming CR programs, Pledge programs, and welcome notices. Assists in all pre-game presentations where NFL or CR program is being recognized.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree with 8-10 years of experience in a full-time marketing, public relations, development or political staff role. Preference will be given to candidates who have lived in the SF Bay Area and have successfully managed a staff.

Requirements: Highly organized, well-versed at public speaking and able to write effectively. Should have solid knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of football is a plus, but not required. Must pass a writing and public speaking exercise. Flexibility to attend some evening events and work weekends when necessary.

The successful community relations manager will: Be required to meet or exceed the following targets: be networked with community leaders throughout the Bay Area, meet targeted number of annual community events, receive positive responses on feedback forms from participants both internal and external, and meet media publicity target for events. Interact with community, business sponsors and political leaders in a professional manner and help engage them in support of the 49ers objectives. Demonstrate strategic thinking skills: be able to find the necessary information, analyze it, and develop a recommended course of action. Know how to identify problem areas and how to rectify them. Be skilled at knowing what decisions need to be made and which ones need to be escalated. Successfully communicate with all personnel throughout the Club.
