Right. the place where they were making the Trains on the Northside, 27th & Capital area is a ghost town now. I worked on that project. It was all union hands, and we did a phenomenal job on restoring the A.O. Smith factory, that had been shuttered for the past 15-20 years. We made it fully functional for the production of trains. NOT ONE TRAIN HAS BEEN MADE AND DELIVERED FROM THERE.
Word. It boggles the mind that anyone can begrudge folks the basic, basic social safety net Americans get. The amount of money this foodstamp shit costs your average tax payer is so small, it's literally almost negligible (no seriously, look it up). Meanwhile the same party that's waging a "moral" crusade against welfare has no problems with the massive corporate welfare we engage in which costs your average taxpayer 100 to 1000x more per year (again, the info is a google search away).
This kind of finger wagging legislation is rooted in contempt of the poor. It's an old tired story. And it's calculated to keep your eyes focused on the already marginal while the money is siphoned off into the pockets of the already wealthy. There's a kind of elegance to it that I have to admire actually.

Picture this. 90% of the blacks live on the northside. 90% of the Hispanics live on the near southside. The hippies and beatnicks live on the east side. Now, Southwest and Northwest of the city is all CAC. It's a trip. Ride North Ave. From East to West. The neighborhoods change so drastically. But, it's a main strip.

Most people on food stamps are the working poor. They just make so little, they qualify for it.
Most of the others are the elderly, the disabled. Yes there are some that take advantage, but it's not as widespread as the talking point makes some believe.
