Wire theory...did Avon set Prop Joe and Marlo up??

watched these two clips then read a comment on the second clip re: a "theory" I don't recall hearing on this board before...kinda makes sense tho...

Fuckin Avon. He wanted Marlo to get to the greeks. He knew if Marlo did that, he would take out prop joe, and eventually marlo would fuck up the connect letting in fall into whose hands? Slim charles, who's of course an OG member of avons crew. So Avon gets out, he's right back on top, and he squeezed a hundred K out of the deal just because, for appearances sake. The king stay the king. Actin all friendly toward Marlo, played that fool hard.

I don't agree w/ everything he said...bcuz he didn't know it would fall into slim's hands per se...plus @ this point I don't think avon was ever getting out if I recall...but I def agree he had a strong hunch marlo would go @ joe and that could probably start something marlo couldn't fix...I just never believed it was about "west side love" and avon "keeping it real" or only 100k just for a meet and greet

plus @ this point I don't think avon was ever getting out if I recall..
Avon had 8year bid i believe. 5 for violation on original charges and 3 for new charges.

Plausible theory tho. I believe he definitely had some hindsight there and absolutely wanted to shit Prop Joe. Based on his character i wouldnt be surprised if his motives extended beyond a finders fee tho i believe getting his sister some bread was also important to him.

ya I know it was for his sister but 100k was still small fries...but if this theory was his endgame I can easily see why he didn't press marlo for more

I don't think he set anyone up but the people in his own circle; He played the game how he was taught the game should be played. He knew things,he used what he could to his advantage but everything else he knew wouldn't last and they would come to an end without his help;Marlo's thing wouldn't last for long with his muscle and Prop Joe was only good when he had information, once he gave that up....he signed his death warrant.

I don't think he thought it would get back to him but he absolutely set that up to get his sister paid and to shit on prop joe
Avon never forgot when he first got locked up how Prop Joe tried to take over all of his towers. How he had Cheese and them setting up shop on their territory and how he tried to ruin their entire game only to have a proposition of real estate under the guise of helping Avon out.
This is when he had to reach out and call The Brother to help defend his tower's and his real estate until he could get a new connect.
The entire time Avon was in jail that first time Stringer was ready to roll over and be "sensible" and Avon was not having it because it was something that he put in work to get and wasn't ready to let go of.
He never forgot that shit.

Never forget Stringer was playing it from the beginning he went to Avon to try and tell him it was useless and link up with Joe.
He didn't count on Avon being a real nigga and getting a new connect and sending the brother. As soon as Stringer found out he was sending the brother he went right to prop Joe.
Also remember that when Avon got out after Stringer setup Brother, the co-op was already done. Wasn't nothing he could do.

Avon's max term was 7 years - s3 arrest only got him on parole violation

Avon respected Marlos hussle and that he was true to the game so I could believe when he said fuck Eastside niggas and like Marlo Avon had no time for the Co-op. Note the first order of business for marlo was to dismantle the co op effectively making him the kingpin of all of baltimore. Slim charles was a part of a new co op of partners thats the only way the could afford to buy the connect from marlo.

The connect ending up in slims hands (sort of) was more coincidence than anything considering when Avon got out hed either have to join the Co OP or go to war with them to get his corners back

Would be dope if that theory panned out with a Wire return with a now vulnerable Marlo

Marlo isn't vulnerable. Marlo is like Avon in the sense that sure she had muscle but HE WAS the muscle.
Never forget when he asked Chris "What the fuck you know about what I need on my mind motherfucker?" and Chris looked down like he was sorry while Monk was scared to speak.
He ain't vulnerable he's probably miserable because he can't sell drugs anymore but he ain't vulnerable.

I remember thinking at the time when this episode came out that Avon was setting up Marlo. I never did really buy the "let bygones be bygones" shit that he was talking. Feels like he let Marlo off kinda easy.

Marlo was Marlo, they even said it, the game is the game. Marlo to that point hadn't done nothing dishonorable. He wanted the spot and came for it. Avon got locked up.
Game keeps going. Now he got the ear to the connect it really ain't no love for them east side bitches and especially Joe who has been trying to take over his territory behind his back for the longest time.
He was really serious about the sides sticking together and absolutely would rather someone on his side have it than coming home to joe running the city.

There was absolutely nothing "honorable" about Marlo. Saying he wasn't dishonorable implies that. I would even say he was patently dishonorable.
Marlo was a a transition from the old to the new. Even though the OGs didn't fully or always follow codes and rules. They at least had them but Marlo was Fuck all codes and rules

In the confines of the game to that point he hadn't done much.
Be a drug dealer. Try to get more real estate. Kill a woman who tried to set him up to be killed.
The dishonorable killings came later.

He evolved into that as he gained more power.
Marlo's respect meter was inconsistent.
He respected Slim and Avon
didn't respect Stringer or Joe or anyone else for that matter.

That was a good scene and all but no crown, no connect, and no crew equals vulnerable in the game. How long can one person hold a corner with enemies that prob want revenge on a former holder of the crown

The game is the game

Avon was running the prison and he still had power on the streets from inside his cell. Remember when he got arrested mcnaulty said that he had to finish his bid. So he was definitely getting out and with Marlo gone he easily becomes king again. I definitely believe he set everybody up. Hell we can make a good inference that he and Slim Charles kept in contact with each other.
