first off, windows 8 sucks.
Is there such a thing as a safe mode in windows 8? I believe there is a virus that keeps programs from installing, such as antivirus software or program updates. Thanks in advance.

repeatedly press F8 key at startup until the safe mode options appear (some times u have to wait until after the bios loads b/c F8 key is assign some other function within the bios). use ccleaner to clear temp internet files (you can also clean the registry, and remove/uninstall rogue startup apps and files) then run malwarebytes or super anti-malware. uninstall any instances mcaffee and norton internet security (that shit is garbage). remove toolbars, "free" games, weatherbug, etc. google any programs or startup files that you are unfamiliar with, to verifiy there legitimacy. never have more than one antivirus installed on your computer, ur computer will perform as if it has a virus. if you have windows 8 make sure you upgrade to windws 8.1 through the windows store. google a good windows 8 tutorial and read it or view it if it is a video. windows 8 ain't that bad, it is actually faster then windows 7 but you got to get use to it. Windows 8 has a built-in antivirus and antimalware called windows defender use it (control panels). scan the computer in regular mode and then in safe mode to be sure virus/malware is eliminated. google is your friend. good luck.

thanks bro. I am able to run malware bytes, cleaned up a lot.. but windows defender has been some how switched "off", and no programs can install.

Co-sign. Especially, "windows 8 ain't that bad, it is actually faster then windows 7 but you got to get use to it. Also, disengage yourself from what you think you know about Windows 8 when you are unacquainted with it. Find a good group to assist you and before you know it, it'll make complete sense. Both ModernUI and the desktop.
When you get ready, step up to the developer preview of Windows X. It returns the start button a lot of people couldn't seem to do without. But beyond the start button, that update is off the chain.
