will they ever make a show as good/realistic as the Wire? I mean something that will show black folks in a positive but also on a realistic perspective...something that will also be commercially successful?

The wire had depth. I hear folks talking about sons of anarchy, breaking bad, and whatever, and they don't even hold a fart to The Wire.

The Wire was my favorite show ever. As the seasons went along and characters starting getting killed, it was almost like losing real friends. Not that serious, but it was. Like when they got String, then Omar. My world was fucked up all day.

There's always a next generation of scumbags. :hmm:

Smh at Dukie.

No time soon. So i will deal with watching the series dvds or real wire type shit in my own hood

Luther is THAT show. But those bastards only make 4-8 episodes a year and hold your hostage to get them.

That's as close as it gets.

Not even close.

I think if you watch Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and Downton Abbey, it should sufficiently scratch your itch for The Wire.

This man is giving you the truth... It's not the pure dope you may want but its enough that you don't get dope sick lol

Homeland is structured similar with long investigations using wire taps, cameras, informants to prevent terrorism. In the case of the Wire, it was drug dealers.

to me it broke down a lot of (moral) street code, it made certain point of views understandable. It was straight hood, why do kids look up to these cats, why do people respect the soldiers/hustlers, what kinda danger do police really face, how does the law actually get these guys.....

There was no filter, it showed a lot of real shit, from Naimond's gold digging moms, to McNulty's connection with Bodie, the human side of Michael a sociopath that went thru the worst of childhoods, the antihero of Omar, the bleak situation of the city and schools, etc.

There was a lot of positive, because it made the characters realistic and vivid, so everyone was rooting for certain characters because we felt like we knew and understood them. To me because, white America, or even some rich black and brown folks don't know about this side of town....
