Is the money his earning per movie reflecting the title?

I remember when I had just arrived in this country bopping my head to "Parents Just Don't understand". Who would have thought? Big up Will

He's become very influential in the industry. I definitely give him props and his wife Jada props for supporting him. It's rare to find a woman, who is also in the industry, happy to play her role as a wife and mother.

He'll always be The Fresh Prince of Bel Air to me.

I respect his skills on screen though.

He gets a 7 on the actors scale but its good hollywood is kissing his ass.

I guess hes getting whats due to Samuel Jackson and Denzel because
he is lightskinned or something. True actors. Fuck if I know or care.
Fuck Hollywoods acknowledgements that goes for Oscars and Grammys
and all that other fake ass bullshit they have out there.

What "due" are Sam and Denzel not getting?

Idiot.

With a worldwide career box office of $4.4 billion

Smith's worldwide box office is more than Adam Sandler's and Will Ferrell's combined

What exactly is he suppose to to for Philly? He tried to open up a botique hotel and shops but the city shot him down a few years ago.

"He invites the white community in, yet he's credible with the black community. That's a pretty hard trick."

Co-sign. Even Denzel didn't have near the reach that this brother does.

Exercise what influence he can where he can. Will should know better than to try to fuck with the "city". Philly is almost as bad now as Chicago was back in the day as far as corruption goes. If you ain't greasing the right people, you can forget it (so I'm told).

All I'm saying is that he can probably make better progress than any other "celebrity" in Philly right now. What that specifically entails would be completely up to him.

I thought I made that clear in my original post.

Couples in Hollywood come and go, especially when they are both in the film industry. Jada has made it clear in several interviews that Will is the star and her job is to support him and help keep the family together. I give her props for checking her ego at the door unlike many female stars in Hollywood.

Gotta respect his hustle. A black man is the most powerful actor on the planet...now that's a headline I was never expecting to see.

the brotha is naturally talented. he told someone in an interview that he never took an acting class.

Will Smith is an amazing actor and I think the reason they have bestowed that title to him is because he has refrained from being type casted. Look at all his box office draws they listed in all the different genres.

Denzel and other black actors have typecasted themselves. Denzel is a cop, a crooked cop he has a certain air of power about him that can't be shed in his roles. Will doesn't do that.. I'm sooo happy for him! Go Will!!!

Sorry but Will is "Will" in every movie. Even in "Ali" he still was Will. I like his movies but he ain't the deepest/broadest actor in the game. That's the truth.

I respect that too, but to be fair, opportunities are so scarce for black female actors in Hollywood that it isn't like Jada has much of a practical choice.

I'm sure she'd rather be pursuing her own considerable acting talents but it's kinda like Halle gets the first look and then whoever else answers the dinner bell the quickest gets her scraps.

I mean Halle

Neither of them do blockbuster action/adventure films (which are easier to market internationally).

Nearly $2B of Smith's total worldwide gross came from just 3 films, Independence Day and the two Men in Black movies ... which are all more about SFX/sci-fi than "Will Smith," per se (though his recognizable presence didn't hurt).

However, all of that action success has finally rubbed off on his other stuff to some extent. Both Hitch (terrible) and Pursuit of Happyness (great, and Italian-directed) have done surprisingly well overseas (though not nearly as well as the action films). Sadly, one of his biggest busts, in the U.S. and internationally, was Ali.

Will was smart and put his money into his movies. He became executive producer of his movies (getting the lead acting check as well as the big money check) instead of spending it all of garbage). By recycling his money into his career he was able to make the movies that HE wanted to make. Instead of being a whore for the system, he put his money on himself and became his OWN pimp, so to speak.

Rappers/Singers should do the same thing and be able to executinve produce their 3rd CD but they don't. They spend their money on jewelry and other useless garbage and they are out of the business by the end of the day. Will was smart. Props to him.

You are trying to big up Will over Denzel as an actor? Come on now. Was Denzel a cop in Antoine Fisher? Remember The Titans? Malcolm X? Mississippi Masala? I could go on. Denzel's scope as an actor elipses Will Smith's several times over. I'm happy for Will but let's not get delusional about his skills. As was said earlier, Will is Will in most of his movies. They pay him the big bucks to be in the big budget films.

The common factor in ALL of these movies is WILL SMITH. Hitch was not that bad for what it was. Hollywood is learning that an actor does not have to be white to be internationally accepted. Of course, it probably won't change anything.

I give the dude props and have pretty much seen every movie he is in (paid for them all), but this statement here does ring true. That's why I couldn't support him in the best actor category. His best performance to date is still his first.

I would love to see him hit the Indie circuit. I don't think every movie he makes needs a July 4th or Christmas release.......Plus if he can turn an Indie flick with a wild topic into a blockbuster, the dude to me can walk on water.......

Congrats! (MR. SMITH) For Being Declared The Most Powerful Actor On The Planet!

I'm not saying he eclipses him as an actor, but just like Will is Will in all his movies, Denzel is Denzel. He always plays a no nonsense kind of guy, i haven't seen Mississippi Masala. I love Denzel and think he deserves his due, but I feel that Will is def. following in his footsteps. While Denzel is a definite draw at the box office for blacks, Will is it for everyone. It's just my opinion

DENZEL WILL NEVER TAKE A GAY ROLE!!! SO IT IS WHAT IT IS. THE HOOD IN PHILLY DONT FUCK WIT WILL. YOU CANT KISS A MAN FOR REAL AND SAY THAT IT WAS ACTING!!!!!!

As much as Will got the props
to me i have high respects for that dude who did HOTEL RWANDA

That guy overshadows leading men in his films including Denzel in DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS

Did you not see Glory, Mo Betta Blues, Philadelphia, John Q, He Got Game and last but certainly not least, Malxolm X?

"The industry is going through a sea change, not just with actors, but in every way," said one industry insider. "Will Smith is the only thing in this business—the only thing—that represents a guaranteed opening weekend." One studio head added, "Let's put it this way," says one studio head, "there's Will Smith, and then there are the mortals."

soo..will smith basically is Hollywood's BOTTOM BITCH..he's their top earner..

They put him out on the strip to shake his ass and do his tricks and he's guaranteed to bring in the big bucks...

Has anyone stopped to ask what exactly DOES the most POWERFUL actor do???

can he green light movies?
Can he get movies made even when other studios turn them down?
Can he get more blacks behind the camera not just directing but producing and exec producing and extend to them greenlight power?

the TRUE power isn't just in money earned but the ability to get things done..

Oprah was called the most powerful woman in Hollywood a few years back..what has she done in terms of forwarding blacks in cinema?

If you want to know who is truly powerful...then look up sumner redstone...thats REAL power..
