If you think people are giving an excuse...you didnt read it right. Its not an excuse. An excuse would lead one to believe that black people deserve a pass for the downward spiral.
I have NEVER argued that there isnt a problem. My thing is WHAT THE PROBLEM is. And will never agree with MUSIC being the problem. And if I did blame entertainment, it would be movies. Movies show you things, music makes you imagine it. Like AZ from Harlem said and I quote "Scarface was like a big commercial to sell drugs, it made everybody want to get it, cats still watch Scarface till this day for motiviation." And thats coming from a cat who did it big for real.
One thing these charts point to is the height of the crack era. Look at the time between 1985 to 1995. That's where gang activity and crack sales were at an all time high and if you notice all the B.O.B. crimes jumped above the whites crime rates.I think that is the perception.
The reality however looks diferently...........

So it's safe to say that the crack era had a lot to do with the state of black america. Now look at today's music most of the kids doing it now were born in that time frame. Mind you, there are kids who survived and strved, but the majority was left to the streets.
The Crack Era played a huge role in where the community is today and a lot of people died in it.
Another example of the movie thing...You ever notice niggas love naming themselves from some shit in a movie? Alot of times its a movie gangster or character, rarely is it a "street nigga".....You dont see anybody naming themselves after rappers..... or activist...no because cats are influenced by movies alot more than music. Music has it's place in this, but it's a very miniscule role. Basically because it was a reflection of what was happening in the streets.
We are still trying to find our way in this world. Now we have less numbers. During slavery, we outnumbered white people by at least 7 to 1 if not more. now we're 13% of the entire U.S. Population. Some people don't even know this. They think we're around 30%, which shows you just how un-informed our people are.
I think that is the perception.
The reality however looks diferently...........

There is only a perceived shortage because more White Women have been born over the last 20 yrs; therefore more White Women end up in college.
Whites don't have a drop out rate for MALES anywhere near as high as Blacks do!
There is no shortage of QUALIFIED WHITES to man the top positions in Corp. America!
In many cases where Blacks are in CHARGE, the organizations are POORLY RUN; examples include HBCUs, and majority Black School Districts!
When is the last time you heard about a WHITE COLLEGE BEING POORLY RUN OR POORLY MANAGED?

WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO GRASP?
Welfare created a permanent underclass of people that are dependent on the government to survive.
Welfare says you get paid for the more children you have and can't keep your housing if you married. So that eliminates the man from the home.
Women who don't regard/respect themselves and want the free welfare check have multiple children for multiple men. Most times these girls are 13-18 who have them so they are children themselves. How can a child raise a child? 70% of Black children are born out of wedlock.
These children grow up poor and choose drugs and crime to survive. Fueled by a lifetime of living around "failures and lowlifes" dope boys, pimps, and prostitutes in the projects. Values picked up from the worst of our society.
Education is not valued where they live. The school falls apart due to low taxes and the lack of the will of those living there to demand better.
*While you are riding down the street coming home from a hard days work in a hurry to see your loving wife and beautiful black children. You are shot and killed at a street corner by "Before mentioned blacks" who come from the environment that was started so many years ago....

70s and early 80's high schoolers came from mainly civil rights lead STRONG families. They had STRONG foundations at HOME. Families were together with alot of ethnic unity... You ever think that a BIG cause of the numbers being higher then was the fact that the family was stronger then?

I don’t think people want TV to change our community. I think people complain about bet and the like because they're tired of being degraded by the stereotypes. Have you seen the, “ a girl like me clip,” where the black kids refer to the black dolls as ugly, unintelligent and dishonest? Stereotypes have a negative impact on the way we see ourselves.
I don’t care what white people are doing either, but how other groups see us is important as well. Images that degrade and dehumanize us reinforce prejudice and reduce the value of our lives, which becomes an obvious problem when news outlets don’t care enough to report missing black women or children, or when the country waits a week before we move to help a city full of drowning black folks.

I believe Black Americans try to be successful in a society posed and structured to create failure.
We continue to rely on them for our livelihood for the most part, myself included. During Jim Crow, we were forced to rely on each other more. We created business in our communities. This passage from a article sums up what I think of our interactions with White America:
"The way to approach it, I think, is not to ask, 'What would it be like to be black?' but to seriously consider what it is like to be white. That's something white people almost never think about. And what it is like to be white is not to say, 'We have to level the playing field,' but to acknowledge that not only do white people own the playing field, but they have so designated this plot of land as a playing field to begin with. White people are the playing field. The advantage of being white is so extreme, so overwhelming, so immense that to use the word 'advantage' at all is misleading since it implies a kind of parity that doesn't exist."
We don't need a agenda based on hate and separation, we need to move forward with an agenda with our eyes wide open and establish busineeses that employs Black people and produce goods and services that all would buy because of quality and price.
We will never be treat equal as long as they see us as inferior and relying on their infrastructure to survive.

I think that was the end of the encouraging generation. A generation that worked hard for their middle/upper class status, who were encouraged by THEIR parents to EARN a better life. THEIR parents worked hard, and had hope for their children, though some of that hope may have been passed on with a sense of false entitlement.
No one does that for children anymore. Most of the parents are children, with so much financial debt, that they don't have hope of ever getting from up under it. Lack of education, and they don't pass on any hope of a better life.
Ours is the first generation to do worse than it's parents.

I agree.Kids are getting worse and worse.The same ignorant ass teenagers we shake our heads at are now raising children.My parents had to take my cousin's daughter because she didn't see the use in enrolling her daughter in school.This broad doesnt do anything but sit and watch Maury povich all day but acts like she is too busy to drive her 12 year old to school 2 blocks away.On top of that kids are bombarded with images of their rolemodels "gettin money", "hustlin","chicken noodle soupin" etc.Sure we had the Cosby's but we also had the drug epidemic.That same drug epidemic is not only STILL prevalent,but also has frequent advertising through the media.I have alot of Ethiopian/Eritrean friends that have come here with nothing.Couldnt even speak the language,but now doctors and nurses supporting families.It isnt that they are any smarter but they just had a PLAN and encouragement from a stable family and peer structure.There are ALOT of opportunities in this country but our childeren are being dumbed down to the point of not taking advantage of them.

There are too many black people who feel like their only ticket to success is to become a professional athlete or an artist. The college I attend is flooded with Asian immigrant, whites, other races, but very few blacks. I ask myself why is that is all the time.
Black people please don’t raise your kids in the ghetto. Raising your kids in the ghetto means setting them up for failure in my opinion. It takes a special kind of individual to overcome the negativity, poorness, and violence in these neighborhoods and become a successful individual. The school systems are terrible and filled with kids with all kinds of problems, while face with heavy peer pressure to do immoral things. Remember you can take the man out of the ghetto, but it’s hard to take the ghetto out of the man.
And you can’t forget about racist white America, who seeks to take care of their own kind before anyone else, which means that we as black people need to work harder. It kills me to see Asians and people of other races who just came over from their country begin taking advantage of all the benefits to be successful in America, while many black people just care about getting a decent paying job instead of always trying to improve upon their position. It is time to wake up black people and remove that lazy label put on us by you know who.

They've always been "clown ass niggaz", but they weren't allowed to sing about it. Think about all of the drug addicts, wife-beaters, child-molesters, all around arrogant assholes have been in music the last 50 years. James Brown went to prison twice, beat every woman he was with, sired countless children, and had a 3rd grade education. Michael Jackson. . . nuff said. I understand that, but you have to look at this as an Amerikkkan cultural problem, as opposed to just a "Black" problem. That's part of the problem. People expect Black people to grow up and live in Amerikkka, but not be Amerikkkans.
I don't know these people. Most of the D-boys I knew pretty much started very early in their teens, got a record, which ruined a lot of their opportunities, and then either are relegated to shitty jobs or prison.
Asians do better for the same reason everybody does well. They are not Amerikkkans. They are either first or second generation people with their own belief and value system other than the get rich quick, corrupt, secular Amerikkkan culture. You are comparing a short-term event like the Holocaust with a half a millenia of slavery. Of course Jews in Germany are different than Blacks in Amerikkkan, because there weren't 10 generations of slaves in Germany.
If you never see negative portrayls of Jews in Amerikkka, then you have never watched Televison then. Have you ever heard the term "Self-hating Jew"? That term exists because there is a stereotype that Jews are some of the most neurotic, insecure people on the planet. To hear Jewish comedians is to hear a lot of things that Bin Laden would say about them. The difference is that they are essentially white in Amerikkka, so when a Jewish director makes a movie, in which the villain is Jewish, the whole Jewish community doesn't act like it's the end of the world. Black people do this, that's why you notice the disparity. But there's negative perceptions of Jews everywhere in Amerikkka. Including those perpetrated by the Amerikkkan media. Watch South Park or Borat.
