Why isn’t the NAACP bombing being covered?

BARBER SHOP EXPLOSION

Colorado Springs police officers investigate the scene of an explosion Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at a building in Colorado Springs, Colo. Authorities are investigating whether a homemade explosive set off outside the building that houses a barber shop and the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP was aimed at the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. On Tuesday morning, an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated next to the local offices of the Colorado Springs, Colorado, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) headquarters. While no one was harmed and the damage was minimal, the FBI found a gasoline can next to the bomb that failed to ignite and cause more damage.

The attack was disturbing to say the least, but what is more profound is the general lack of coverage it has received by major media outlets. It took CNN half a day to report on the bombing and nightly news networks gave little to no mention of story that night.

Many people were alerted to the bombing only after it became trending on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook, with many questioning why the story wasn’t making headlines.

The day before the attack, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund publicly announced it was asking Missouri Circuit Court Judge Maura McShane to appoint a special prosecutor in the case against former Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson.

There are still plenty of questions surrounding the bombing.
Was there a bias in coverage? What was the motive? Does the attempted bombing of an NAACP office building not fall under the umbrella of domestic terrorism?

For all intents and purposes, a suspected domestic terrorist on the loose in Colorado should have made some waves, even if thankfully, there were no casualties to speak of.

There was plenty of news coverage in 2001 of the shoe bomber who tried to detonate explosives on the American Airlines flight from Paris, France, to Miami, Florida. There was plenty of coverage on the man who tried to detonate a car bomb by Times Square in 2010.

So why should we ignore this most recent failed attempt of terrorism on our doorsteps?

Composite Sketch Of NAACP Bombing Suspect Released

The FBI is asking for anyone who recognizes this man to get in contact with them.

There doesn't appear to be much else they can do unless someone recognizes the man seen leaving the area just before the detonator exploded.

Denver Post:
Officials released a composite sketch Friday of a person of interest in the bombing of a building that houses a chapter of the NAACP, saying their investigation is still in its early stages and very much ongoing.

The FBI would not speculate about a motive in Tuesday's bombing, reiterating earlier proclamations that they are exploring all possibilities in why someone appears to have targeted an unassuming, one-story red building in a neighborhood south of downtown.

"I'm not going to be naive, I know what the NAACP means to some extremists in this country," FBI Special Agent in Charge Thomas Ravenelle, the only official to speak at Friday's media briefing, said.

The sketch is of a balding white man about 40 seen dropping something off and leaving the scene just before the device went off, officials said. Federal law enforcement is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest (call: 303-425-7787).

Officials said they believe only one person was responsible for the apparent attack.
I'm glad they're not being naive, because it's not a huge leap to assume an IED was there because someone was offended at the presence of a civil rights organization in their nice tidy neighborhood.

Tonight, all of the news channels will be talking about the Paris tragedy and the ultimate outcome. There will be much discussion about Muslims, terrorism, and how afraid we all should be of people in faraway places who find their way to other faraway places and do harm to others.

It's worthy of attention. But not if they choose to ignore the people in places close to home who dream of doing harm to friends, neighbors and others, because liberty. Domestic terrorists will wreak more havoc this year than foreign ones will. Mark my words.

This guy looks like the nut jobs that follow me around town which I complain to the police about.

they are treating it as a local situations is my guess.

Kind of like the beheading in Oklahoma. That was like a 2 week story tops.

If dude bombs a church, then the story would change.

The Oklahoma beheading got way more coverage.

Faux snooze was all over it!
