Why Is College Math So Hard?

Thanks bro! I'm really getting frustrated with this math shit! I am not bad in basic math but when it comes to these fucking Algebra and Calculus shit I fucking hate it! No matter how much I study and practice the fucking quiz and test take a completely different turn. Nothing like what I was studying and practicing! :smh:

Learn the concept behind the problems man. Memorizing how to do something one way won't work. If you learn the WHY the HOW will come easily; I am dead serious about that. Read the book, I mean READ it take notes, learn the number properties and the vocabulary. Understanding the language of math is a large part of getting it to stick in your mind; this is something many teachers do not explain. Most important, if you are able, GO SEE THE TEACHER!! If your professor has office hours, use them! I guarantee results if only because the teacher knows you're trying.

It took a tough ass statistics teacher to get me to shake my math blues in college bro, and he taught me most of the stuff I wrote above. His tests were so hard because he would force you to use alternate ways of solving the problems. The shit was hard as hell, but damn it if I didn't finally start to ace my tests in the latter half of the semester. Stats kicked my ass up to that point. Then I applied the knowledge to other math classes and started to do much better.

if you see a + b = c, also realize that b + a = c and c = b + a....it might seem redundant, but you have to look at it from all sides.

If I can finally get it, so can you.

And why the fuck do I have to learn all these stupid equations? Shit has nothing to do with my major! I been doing fine passing all my other classes with A's. now I keep fucking failing every quiz I take! WHAT THE FUCK?:angry::angry: :smh::smh::smh:
:smh:

Nothing personal

but this is the officially dumbest shit that I have ever said in my life.

"Shit has nothing to do with my major!"

I said it when I was in H.S.

so there were years of stupidity to follow after saying it.

after decades of repercussion for my assumption, I summed it up to this "personal" phrase.

You don't know, what you don't know.

I know that's so sounds "Niggified"...ethereal?....esoteric?.... but it really means, this to me

you can't see the future.

That still probably doesn't make sense but this phrase, though I didn't make it up like the others, is probably more acceptable.

"No knowledge is wasted".

If you are learning something...anything... it's to prepare you for when you do need it. Thing is ...you don't know when you will need it.

Quick story: When I was in high school, I looked at the teacher doing "Slope" on the chalkboard and put my head on the desk to get some sleep thinking, "I'm going to be an artist when I get out of H.S." I will never need to to read a slope or sinewave.

Artist and animator only work with pencil and paint...my mind when to sleep in that math class in 1980 on COSINE

At 17 years I knew Art and I knew I would never EVER need to know cosine, sinewave, or slope to be an Artist, Painter or Animator.

here's a sample of basic cosine...slope and sinewave.

Fast forward 30 years later. I am an artist and animator.

Here is what I look at all do inorder to animate 3D character.

Picture15-1.png

There wasn't personal computers when back then when I was in H.S.

I work with acceleration and velocity slopes, and curves to make my 3D animated characters move.

It's also in Photoshop curves.

Anyway, back to your question, maybe college math is hard because maybe in H.S. you didn't think you would need it?

just asking

the real reason colleges make us take the classes we dont need for our major is money. plain and simple.

While I agree with this, let's not undermine the importance of taking a diverse course load. I find many of my elective courses equally, and sometimes even more interesting than my major course.

I applied to college and choose my major when I was 17 in high school. I took a year off before actually attending, and now I'm a 23 year old senior. I can graduate in two months, but I decided to take a few more economics courses simply because I find it interesting.

A lot of college is bullshit, but the environment is conducive to gaining knowledge. Nothing compares to a classroom and the professor. But on that note, keep studying and don't be discouraged. I tried to balance out my classes by taking an ultra easy class for ever course I knew would give me a hard time. I love math and I'm good at it, but I only had to take one course for my major
