Why Is College Math So Hard?

real talk it took me 3 times to pass inter. math :smh:
the first two times was a combo of bad teaching and not applying myself.
The third I found a good teacher and studied like hell did every home work assignment asked questions in class.

good luck to you.

BRO, GO TO THIS SITE, CHOOSE YOUR TOPIC (ALGEBRA, ETC...), TYPE IN YOUR PROBLEM, IT TAKES YOU THROUGH STEP-BY-STEP, CHECK YOUR WORK. COOL?
http://www.mathway.com/problem.aspx?p=algebra

Great find.

I think it all has to do with how the material is presented. I was horrible at math until college. . .. But I had excellent professors who presented the material in way that made it a lot easier than it probably would have. .

Have you tried a tutor?

I agree 100%.

hey fuckshit the american system fucks americans the most. our education is dumbed down in the pre-college schools.

You obtuse mental twat, stop blaming others for your lack of direction and take responsibility for your own education.
You sound like a man going to prison and blame everyone & everything for his sorry plight :hmm:

Stay stuck on stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

listen to this little self righteous faggot. you don't know shit about me or my education level bitch so back the fuck off. my commentary on the education system is very valid and there's tons of proof of it. how can any child take responsibility for their own education if they don't know the difference between what they're learning what what they should be learning until they reach adulthood?? children in alot of other nations have better educations systems than america by fuckin far. i'll slap you with my fuckin shin bone you bitch ass cracka.

I fucking love math, which is why I went into Accounting. I used to help my teacher teach math classes in high school and college.

I've noticed the math gets harder every year in college. Get it out the way as soon as possible. I remember in college I got my math shit out the way, was dating a younger female, looked at what she was doing in that same class I took previously, & was like "damn this shit looks hard. I didn't have to do that"

If you really have no desire to learn the material thoroughly, cheat. For anything under Cal II, get a TI 82 or better and just type all the equations and an example in to the pgrm func.

I started in Civil Engr but had to switch over to Acct. when Cal II kept giving me problems.

I came across it after I had already graduated but it seems that it would have been very useful.

Any good parent creates conditions either pro or neg. My people encouraged high learning. Who are my people? People with the super power of common sense, that knew a educated mind in a freed mind.

You couldn't help your parent lack of interest in your education or their own. Environment plays a strong role in the success of a group or a individual. Which explains you somewhat negative attitude concerning this matter.

And why the fuck do I have to learn all these stupid equations? Shit has nothing to do with my major! I been doing fine passing all my other classes with A's. now I keep fucking failing every quiz I take! WHAT THE FUCK?:angry::angry: :smh::smh::smh:

BRO I HAD TO TAKE CALCULUS II TO GET INTO MED SCHOOL, HIGHER LEVELS OF MATH ARE TO SEPERATE THE MEN FROM THE BOYS. I FEEL YOUR PAIN I WAS IN AWE WITH THE COS AND SIN AND TANGENT, I WAS LIKE WTF? BUT I HAD TO DO IT..AND I DID...YOU HAVE TO SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE DOING THE SAME THING AS YOU, YOU WILL PULL THROUGH JUST AS I DID.:dance:GOOD LUCK

you seem to be unaware of the true apathy that plagues american households these days coupled with systematic dumbing down. stay on your high horse you cocksucka. i am gonna do my job with my kids and make sure they rise above the bullshit just like i did.

Dumbing down due you fools like you believing biased media articles, and not attempting to better the situation. Stop parroting stupid shit. You can do better, just use your fucking brain as a problem solver, not a "basura"

muthafucka any parent can see what's going on with the education system if they pay attention. you seem like you're dumb ass telling me that my belief in a purposeful lack of quality of american education is imagined? you need the breath slapped out of your worthless body.

Man, I know that shits hard man, but try to keep pressing. I know your natural instinct is just to get the shit over with, but if possible, try to get something out of it too. Especially calculus cause you'll soon realize just how integrated calculus is to damn near everything. I came to college thinking I was the shit in Math, and I learned a pride crushing lesson. I bullshited myself through a full year of "honors calculus" and thought it would be smooth sailing in college (we spent 80% of the year doing differential and the end of the year doing ntegral. By that time, as a senior, I was already check out mentally) . Shiiiiiiiit. We flew throught that whole high school year in one quarter of college and I had to bust my ass for a C. Everyday, this motherfucker was putting us through the origins and history of calculus theories, as if we were supposed to make the connections on the spot in class (the same one it that took geniuses years to put together). Now I don't know what i expected from class, but I was not interested in watching him go off on some random tangent goaded by the quarter of the class that acted as if they were following him. His tests were hard as fuck (until he explained the solutions afterward and made you feel stupid). I hated that motherfucker with a passion.

But a funny thing happened. My buddy just seemed to love this guy. He'd come out of test day loving it, like he'd just come from a damn good competitive game of baskeball. The kind of game that were you're so happy that you found some good competition to play, you don't really care if you win or lose. That shit fucked my head up so I started really listening in class, and I eventually I started to appreciate the profs style as well. He was challenging us, trying to get us to think. You still had to go through the grunt work, but everyday in class he was teaching us and showing us how to think and problem solve like the greats did, and I appreciated that. I also learned something with forever helped focus my thinking. I didn't become a math major or anything like that, but my grades went up each quarter (C+, B-, B). That's not great, and sure I wanted A's, but I was damn proud of that B. I haven't yet gone on to greatness because of it, but If I ever become anything in this life, I'll remember that prof as the first dude that not only challenge me how to think critically, but also really helped to teach me how.

so what, you're going to give up on your dream of getting into media/radio because of a few equations? I guess you could do like everyone else that hits a speed bump and just change majors to management or some shit. Either that or suck it up and try harder. Talk to your professor so they know you're making an effort. Alot of times that is what separates the C's (pasing) from the D's.

Your tutor may be showing you the mechanics of the problems but does not explain what and why these equations accomplish. The professor assumes you know how to apply the knowledge learned but your practice problems are a far cry from the test questions. I took this class for electrical power using wye and delta formulas. The equations were easy but I didn't know when to apply them. Got on the test...BAM...instant F!

Bro, you see a problem, and continue to let it problem grow? Who does that? What type of person talk about problem, and does nothing to assist. You sound bitch made! You have spent more time supporting you obtuse beliefs in this thread than spending time with your kids, you waste of a man........ :smh:

PS it's "A"merican not "a"merican. But you knew that.

Your Highschool Math Classes Wasn't Shit

Pretty much. Either that or you weren't much of a math student then either.

Just do the homework and put in some lab hours and you'll get it. Keep a positive attitude and convince yourself that the numbers do make sense.

Math isn't my best subject, but when I was in college is didn't help that we had some shitty-ass math professors. Alot of the CUNY schools did from other folks have told me.

asshole condescender you don't you even SEE the problem in the first place. you're nothing but a gay ass phony self righteous piece of dogshit who's moms probably doesn't even like his ass. get the fuck outta here.

You have to practise your mathematics. There is no shortcut no way around it. You have to do the exercises in your book...

Well Im not giving up, I want to over come this obstacle because Math has always been the only subject I struggle in. I've been studying and practicing for hours and hours so I guess I gotta raise the bar a lil more.

im taking intermediate algebra
its not too bad but my teacher barely decent english and i just hate math

Them other classes are probably 'soft skills' courses that PAD your gpa. Math is rigor. Lean into that shit man. PLUS, do a damn SEARCH. There's MAD math skill builder shits on bgol for that. It's MEANT to be challenging. It's the language used to 'describe' the physical world. Why would anyone expect that to be easy?

And real talk, it's hard, likely because of the PACE of the course. And you probably spend a lot of time chasin' ass(nothing wrong with that but . . . . .).

Get yourself a math tudor. ANY college/university worth a damn has them. DON'T be a BIGGER fool by not seeking them out on some 'that's embarrassing, I'm a smart guy bullshit'. Smart is as smart does. Don't be a dummy.

JG

You know am an condescending ass hat, but you failed to SEE my real problem, and truth. I'm nothing but a gay ass, phony self righteous piece of dogshit. Whose moms (it hurts write to this) doesn't care for. Let me get the fuck outta here, before I start crying and cant see the screen. Thank you, but I'll stay stuck on stupid.

*fixed

Math is fucking easy as hell. I had no probs in college with math. I think it all depends on who the person is. Bitches usually have more trouble with math.
