Why I live in Florida

If there was a doorbell camera, I could have easily ended up in this thread yesterday, HBB.

Stopped by my dad's place in the evening. He's got a number of stairs from the front boulevard to doorstep. Small house but large rectangular-shaped lot. He's always said to be careful about slippery steps and I've had some close calls in the past. "Use the hand rail" is the common reminder. It was hovering around freezing at the time, and took a few minutes to scrape and defrost the car moving around like an old man. I was leaving after 10pm and had a backpack over my left shoulder & was carrying a small grocery bag in my right walking down to the car. I think that helped me not take more serious impact on the fall. Anyway, pivoted on the doorstep and walked down a stair or two & immediately did the banana peel slip and crashed down the rest of the stairs (10 or so). Took the brunt of the impact mid-back and tailbone and left elbow. Did NOT hit my head. The day after ... feels like mild hyper-extension of my right knee too. Damn. I fell like Candace on Floribama Shore, or Pesci in Home Alone. Vidclips below.

:scream: :hithead::unconscious:

:lol: :roflmao2::roflmao:

It's those last few bumps on the steps that has me laughing!

Agreed. Pesci was great with the physical comedy in Home Alone, and I'm really surprised Candace wasn't hurt badly on Floribama Shore. Glad she was alright.

Man ... I think the backpack saved me earlier this month. Easily could have cracked my damn head. I can't even add an lol on that one. You don't realize how quickly it happens as you can't brace yourself for impact. Elbow's still bruised up (no pain). Tailbone's still feeling it. Went for a long walk yesterday. Couldn't drive due to weather conditions. Body's telling me - "You fell down a staircase mid-month ... slow your roll yet ..."

:roflmao3:

Swear I'm so damn close to moving down there. Still on the fence whether or not we about to go down there for the next 3-4 months and just coming back to Ohio when the weather breaks. Got a week to make up my mind. I know the kids would love being on the beach in the middle of winter.

Ohio starting to feel like Scotland or some shit but cold. :smh:
I hear ya bro. Check this out: It was 80 on Christmas day, went down to the lower 70's at night and today is back up to 80 degrees. I'm headed to the beach for after Christmas dinner.

:cheers:

You're living good - living right!

We've had some rain & snow combos in recent days. Colder with the windchill, lol.

Had multiple layers of clothing on for the walk and skytrain the other day.

Man. Chilling at the beach is the shit. That's why I want to do winters in Florida and just come back to Ohio when it turns into Crematoria down there.

I'm thinking Miami, but there is also Tampa and Orlando. Got a lot more research to do on costs/pros/cons. Should have had it done by now, but I keep fucking flip flopping.

Went for a walk to look at Christmas lights around the neighborhood and got cold as fuck. Rained on Christmas so puddles everywhere. Even all the deer were looking around like 'fuck this shit!!" Fucking coyotes running around everywhere.

Was in Zihuatanejo, Mexico for 10 days in mid-December 2019. It was 110 and climbing by mid-morning. Back at home it was approximately 40 degrees and raining, lol.

I hear you on the Christmas lights. That's an annual tradition with my aunt and I. She likes to do that, so we go for a walk as her birthday's in early-December. We were gonna go on Sunday Dec. 12th but it was pouring rain. We went the following Sunday and it was dry and cold. Much better experience. There's a stretch of road in Vancouver in which 80% of the houses have their lights up. We usually park mid-block on a side street and walk one side of the street and then do the other side of the street. It's about a 6-block stretch. One of the coolest houses has an upstairs loft / lookout. And they put a holiday movie on a big screen up there facing out to the street.

Gene,

Regarding the deer and coyotes ... do the coyotes ever harass anyone with cats and dogs?

Mom's over in Victoria, B.C. ... they get deer walking around in some of the residential areas. It's interesting to see them casually strolling around and hopping peoples' fences to eat plants and shrubs. Especially as they're only a few minutes on foot from downtown. Walking along you're careful not to startle them as they size you up to see if you're a threat, lol. I don't want to end up on someone's viral clip getting jumped by a deer.

Yeah, people with small dogs around here don't let them loose. I think it's because small dogs seem to be retarded with all the yapping and just alert coyotes to the dinner bell. Cats run around like it ain't shit and don't seem to get snatched. Coyotes are some of the sneakiest creatures I've ever seen. They like the jackboys of wildlife around here.

Deer are just part of our lives. Some people hand feed them. These the females. Sounds crazy, but we actually know some of the fucking deer around here. Bucks are rarely seen and no one is crazy enough to fuck with them when they do come around. I seen maybe 2 bucks in all of 2021.

Lol @ small dogs alerting the dinner bell

Cats not giving a fuck and being indifferent

Coyotes being the sneaky creatures

Have seen a few young coyotes and foxes give chase to small dogs in the neighborhood. Haven't had any run-ins with cougars or bears, but they've been around in the region due to trails & parks.

In Vancouver ... see alot of raccoons. Crossing streets leading up to the highway. Fighting each other on peoples' fences, etc.
