Why don’t most women have a sense of humor?

Most women don’t tell jokes or are not that quick to get them. As far as professional comedians, I haven’t come across to many that are good. You can count the good ones on both hands. In my opinion Moms Mabley and Lucille Ball are two that are authentically funny. Are women that uptight that they take everything seriously?

Women have a sense of humor. I'm not sure where you are getting this from. I, along with the women I hang out with at work, are always looking for a good laugh (and we usually find one). As far as funny women in entertainment, there is a shortage but there is a shortage of really funny men also.

Maybe you just do not understand women's jokes . . . If they do not get them, maybe the joke was just not funny.

There are just as many funny professional comediennes as there are comedians. I wonder what type of comedy you refer to, since your "good" ones (Moms Mabley and Lucille Ball -- who were excellent comediennes) were from a different time period and comedy-reference than today.

I would garner a bet that most sitcoms feature more comediennes as main characters than comedians.

Why don't you list males whom you think are "good" and I'm sure that I and other members can come up with females with equal if not more talent.

Definitely have to co-sign with George Carlin. I have heard that Sarah Silverman is funny, but have not seen her show yet.

Joan Rivers is a comedic talent and should have been Johnny Carson's replacement on the Tonight Show when he retired

Gilda and Jane were not only good on SNL, but excellent comedy writers as well.

I feel that Paula had very good stand-up talent, but the sexual abuse scandal has destroyed her career.

Margaret has matured as an overall comedic performer. Not too many people are really into Ellen's dry and wry sense of humor (almost sort of Steven Wright-ish)

Roseanne is another person with tremendous talent which is overshadowed by the trials and tribulations of her personal/Hollywood life.

While I will concede that in general people can probably come up with more male than female names of famous or funny (not always both) comedians, I think only because historically, comedy had been the province of men with the exceptions of a few (Lucy, Moms, Joan, et. al.)

Though maybe to alter your original question a bit: Do men and women have different senses of humor?

On the real: I loves a silly woman. A woman who knows how to let her hair down and let her childish side out is the ULTIMATE Dime in my book. There's a time to be serious and a time to play. I'm not looking for a stand-up comedian, but I'd love a chick that's BRAVE enough to laugh, to hell with being dainty.

Real talk: matching humors is an express bus to intimacy. :cool: Humor mis-match is an express bus to a limp dick.

Jerry Seinfeld should have been Johnny’s replacement. Joan’s self deprecating humor can get old, but I love the way she rips celebrities. Her face lift has taken the attention off of her comedy and placed the attention on her face. DeGeneres’s selling point is that she is a lesbian. An out front lesbian celebrity, woopee! Poundstone is more of a Woody Allen, without the wit. Woody Allen comes off as a self conscience and geeky schlep. Laugh at a male schlep and it is funny, laugh at a female shelp and it appears as cruel and a sexist. Roseanne Barr made the most of a jolly chubby women, but she ran out of material. I first saw her on the Tonight Show in her first national spotlight. She was hilarious. Probably the first female to satirize the female side of getting screwed in a divorce, the working class point of view, which is probably where she got the idea for her television show. After that ran its course, she had nowhere to go.

Do men and women have different senses of humor? Do men and women see the world differently?

But I still think that most women lack a sense of humor. Too self conscience in bring attention to their flaws.
