why does NWA get the credit for starting Gangsta rap and not Ice-T?

JUST ICE from the bronx came before NWA ICE T

kool g rap came before ice t and NWA.

schooly d from philly made that song PSK its a gangster song.

ALL FACT.

but Marc THAT is the point most modern fans dont know or/and dont care...

I KNEW hip hop wasn't the same when Rick Ross was exposed and no one cared.

Did ya'll forget about Schooly D. PSK, Guccitime?

I been listening to Hip Hop since it's start
This was THE FIRST Song I EVER heard that was
straight up Killing and shooting...
Before NWA or ICE T. I was actually shocked at the time

None of them started gangsta rap; Schoolly D did (with honorable mention to Just Ice).

ice t came out with 'cold wind madness' back in 1982 (jimmy jam and terry lewis produced that sheit too) and that was before schooly do came out. so yeah, ice t did make 'gangster rap' first. but really there IS no such thing as 'gangster rap' since gangsters don't and never have rapped on record. ice and them called it 'reality rap' at first. then it was packaged and relabeled 'gangster rap' by indie record label employees looking to create a brand

I agree NWA was a bigger group but Ice T was accepted on both coasts as well, he toured alot on the East Coast. The thing about Ice is when "gangsta rap" started blowing up he was already experimenting with Body Count and doing movies, he didnt fuck with rap that much after. And BG had a song called Bling Bling what idiot thinks Shaq invented it? Wayne was the first to say it though

And down south heads...... please take notice to the fronts. Dudes was going to Canal street years before "grills" became popular.

But even those canal street fronts were fake, down south dudes had their shit permanently put on...no taking em out.

Yeah, but Cold Wind Madness wasn't really that gangster, but it wasn't pop either.

The funny thing was that shit was one of the things that helped break up the original Time.

Ice T wasn't the first, maybe he was 1st on the left coast, but before NWA or Ice-T:

Just-Ice was doing it in 85/86...
I think people get it wrong with Just-Ice... Just-Ice isn't necessarily the FIRST GANGSTER RAPPER... He was the FIRST RAPPER WHO WAS A GENUINE GANGSTER...
I've seen Just-Ice LOSES IT ona Promoter... quite a few times... :smh:
Just-Ice was NO PUNK... by any stretch of the imagination... :smh:

This was definitely THE FIRST SONG I HEARD WHERE SOMEONE TALKED ABOUT SHOOTING SOMEBODY...

yep! :roflmao: prince was like 'fuk yawl doin? '

cold wind madness though was kinda gangster in that it was 'street' if u listen to the lyrics -- even though the audio is REAL fuked up

:smh: WRONG.

ice t dropped his first rap single in 1983. jus ice had no single out then. sheit, he didn't drop a jewel until four years later with "back to the old school" on fresh records in 1986

I agree on one of your points.

The gold wasn't Fake. Cheap? Hollow? Most of the time, yes. But not fake. I know dudes who were getting rocks in their shit from Canal that were(at the time mind you) far from cheap.

As far as permanent fixtures, some dudes in BK were getting those too. But not from Canal jewelry stores. Dudes was going to Queens to get shit that done. But to be real, most people aint want all that permanent shit.
Cmon, you 14-15 years old and making your real teeth disappear forever? Some dudes, yes. But most, hell no.

Let them niggas from Veer back in the day roll up on you for your fronts, and them shits were permanent.... :smh::smh::smh:

TRACY MARROW aka ICE-T

Ice T Net Worth
American rapper and actor,Tracy ‘Ice-T’ Marrow, has an estimated net worth of $30 million. Often cited as the founding father of gangsta rap, Ice-T has also crafted a successful film career from his hardened street persona. Despite the fact that his early roles stuck closely to his public image as a thuggish West Coast pimp.

Metaphoric opinion:

I think Tracy has got plenty of credit for gangster rap....but I don't think he
or any one person can claim they started it...it seemed more of a collective
and Ice-T was the west coast (Magic Johnson) and Eazy was the (Kobe) to
West Coast gangster rap Ice Cube, Dre and Snoop would be metaphorically
the rest of the Lakers CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYERS.

Just my opinion with some facts thrown in...all you West Coast hip hop
scholars please don't get your panties in a bunch cause I'm spitting
opinion...:hmm:

:rolleyes::lol:

Where's Too Short?

Simple. Ice T was wack as fuck. Other than colors and maybe 1 other song dude wasn't talkin bout shit

ALL FACT.

Wait, hole up! G Rap came before Ice T? The fuck? I need a link for that one, player. Seriously.

Edit: I saw you retracted your statement. Cool.

Exposed? The hell? Rap is Hollywood Stories on mp3. That shit is possibly .000003 percent fact. That shit used to be lambasting in the nineties. All that lying. Only that it sells but don't buy into that garbage. Just a character, man.

Dope Q and A drop. Ice T has always been one of my favorite personalities in the business. A seasoned philosopher that sat in many corners of the world defending this very topic. Interviewer didn't have a chance. He did a great job of vocally neutralizing those jabs from the Walt. Black athletes and entertainers need to watch this and take notes.

As for the OP question, NWA was a posse/ perceived gang, Ice T was/ is a soloist: "this a gang, and I'm in it."

why u care and how does this affect your life
better yet why u care to come in the thread and comment?

Dude, Ice T took his mediocre rap and dance and acting skills and parlayed it into a multimillion dollar gig. Plus, he had the baddest bitch in hip hop for years.

The fuck you talking bout?

I have know the cat since the 80's. Him and Too Short are some of the realest cats to ever roc the mic. Nuff respect

You sir know you shit! Finally somebody knows the truth. Ice-T bit the beat and rhyme flow of Schoolly D's hit P.S.K. (Park Side Killers) with his song Six In The Morning. NWA then bit the beat and rhyme flow of Six In The Morning and made Boys In The Hood. They were both blantant theives. Schoolly D deserves the credit for creating gangsta rap.
