Why do Americans often hold the president more accountable than Congress for the state of the economy?

A he's more visable and
B they aren't aware or astute to how goverance works

When you buy a faulty computer from walmart do you scream at A the walmart sales associate or the ceo of hp and dell

I'll bite.

The President is the one who keeps sending the country into war WITHOUT Congress.

If the President stopped sending people off to die in god-forsaken battlefields, he wouldn't have to worry about so much blame coming his way.

Congress could stop that shit in it's tracks. Get some some congress people with some guts that are not afraid of the right labeling them anti American like Kucinich and Grayson No money, no war!

You were right.. Most people don't have the slightest idea how government works. The person who just mentioned the president sending troops off must be young. If you read the history that is within his power. The only problem is that congress must approve long term funding of any military action. Clinton got a lot of credit because he was president during the dot com boom and the budget was balanced. But if you look at his 1st 2 years the only thing he accomplished was Don't ask don't tell. After Newt and the contract with America started it made him come closer to the middle and concentrate on what 'most' Americans wanted. I am hoping Obama does that if the democrats lose this fall. Actually I thought Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were the worst things that could happen to him. Hopefully the dems will lose and pull Obama 'more' to the center. If this doesn't happen then there is no way in hell he will get reelected.

No just staunchly idealogical!

The worst thing to be introduced in to government in my opinion over the last forty years was the War Powers Resolution of 1973. This took the Constitution power of war declaration from Congress and gave it to the president de facto and slowly made the presidency more powerful than the congress. The US Constitution specifically made the three branches of government co equal. to limit abuses.

I thought Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were the worst things that could happen to him.

Pelosi is not that bad. The corporate controlled media has put up a constant barrage of bad press against her She has accomplished more during her tenure than either Hastert or Gingrich.

Reid is another story. During GW's Regimen, he seemed to buckle at the slightest push from the right wing nuts.

well the Pres. is the focal point. I, personally don't think the pres. has much say so. Sure, his "spread the wealth" campaign message speaks volumes, however, Ben Bernanke & the Fed Res. controls the issuance of currency so the focus should be on the Fed Res.

Yes it does. FOR YOU!

Lamarr's message, let's keep the wealth in the top 3%!

You see what your idea of "earning" it means to BP.

Externalities Greed, externalities.
Courts socialist, courts.

When BP is undeniably held liable for the economic cost, then they should pay other and their wealth gets redistributed.

They should not pay just because they earned it.

Now do you understand what a principle is?

Spoken like a true laissez faire capitalist.

No one on this board share my views. Everyone should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. Zero exceptions.

Well doesn't that fall under the unitary executive theory? He's granted with certain powers that congress can't really do anything about according to the vesting clause.
