I know for a fact that if you play step daddy and shit goes left in the relationship; that bitch can try to get child support from you. The court would say something along the line of you are the only father this child knows and it will be detrimental to said child to change that now, so yeah, you're responsible.
The courts main goal is to make sure that the court doesn't have to take care of the kid. So if you're already there, you'll stay there.
Granted the situation I'm referring to is of a 6 month old child, dealing the mother for 4 years, and the kid was calling dude daddy the whole time. Negu thought it was cute until she took his ass to court.

No one has ever asked me to be a step father.. Interesting... I've gone out with plenty of girls who have children, either you want to or you don't, no one ever asks. 4) She lost custody of her kid(s) for a good reason

When a dude nuts and runs a woman has a chance to snatch 17% of his pretax income. If he makes the average $2k/month that's $340. All he has to do to avoid this is spend time with his child. If this isn't happening it means that
1) He's dead or in jail
2) he doesn't have any money worth going after
