Re: Who is the 2nd best player to EVER come out of UNC ?

michael jordan was not near the player in college he was when he entered the nba. Worthy had a better college career at unc than jordan did.

In 1982 MJ hitting the game-winning shot in the National Championship game.

Sam Perkins???...you joking right?

Big Game James Worthy is the correct answer...

Vince Carter

Worthy, GO TAR HEELS!!

then you got Wallace, Stack, Carter, and Jamison. Felton has been good, Fox was solid, and so was Davis.

R U SERIOUS:confused: HOW THE FUCK DID HE MAKE THAT TRANSFORMATION:confused:

Hoop star Daugherty joins ESPN/ABC team
Former Tar Heel, NASCAR team owner to be part of broadcast team

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Brad Daugherty, best known to sports fans as one of the biggest stars of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has a new position in front of the camera as a NASCAR analyst.

The job with ESPN will build on Daugherty's long-running efforts to increase minority participation in one of the least diverse of the major sports.

"This is huge," he told The Citizen-Times in a story published Thursday. "It's unprecedented to have a full-time African-American covering NASCAR, and I'm excited about the opportunity."

Daugherty was chosen first overall by Cleveland in the 1986 NBA Draft and played in five All-Star games before an injury forced his retirement after eight seasons in 1994. He still holds franchise records including points scored (10,389), total rebounds (5,227) and free throws made (2,741).

The Cavaliers retired his jersey in 1997, and he was unanimously selected to the team's All-Time Starting Five during its 30th anniversary celebration in the 1999-2000 season.

Daugherty, a Black Mountain native also starred for Owen High School and the University of North Carolina, where he played alongside Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins and Kenny Smith.

Daugherty has been involved in NASCAR for almost 20 years, as an owner of race teams in the Busch and Craftsman Truck Series, and a member of the Rules and Competition Committee.

He and NASCAR chief executive Brian France co-founded NASCAR's Diversity Council several years ago.

"Brian said to me that the cultural impact of this is huge, and I think that's what intrigued me the most," Daugherty said. "I thought that if I don't step up and take this opportunity, who will? It probably wouldn't be another African-American. So I felt some responsibility as well as being a big racing fan who loves the sport."

Before Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Phil Ford or any of the others, there was the guy that paved the way for them all. The first black ball player at UNC...Charlie Scott.

exactly. a bball novice that just watches the road to the final four special every year will say jordan because he hit the winning shot. well, so did cameron dollar. truth is big game james averaged 21 points and was final four mvp.

 @ cheese eyes having a better carolina career than pimpin james

Good thread a side question

What is the best twosome to come out of UNC Jordan and Worthy excluded.

Vince Carter and Antione Jamison or Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse

I am going to go with Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace

and to answer the original question James Worthy

good question, its a tossup, stack got lost a bit in the shadow of iverson then digging detroit out after grant hill jetted only to be bounced to dc. vince and tawn have had slightly better careers individually, but stack and sheed have been part of better squads.

at carolina though, tawn and vince went to the final four two out of three years with coach gut, i believe. vince was a highlight everytime he touched the ball and tawn was probably the best raw scorer unc has had in modern day history. i remember the dook game where he scored 31 points with the ball in his hand a total of 40 or 50 seconds the whole game. :eek:he was just getting position and hitting that flipshot. fucking amazing

You've got two choices. Get down or lay down. And when you lay down you stay down!

Yes he was the first, but just due to the times if not him someone else would have been. And you can't say for sure that if he had not been the first that the rest would not have followed (considering the passage of time). So for for now lets just give him credit for being the first and not for blazing the trail........
