I don't, although I am a natural born citizen because my ancestors were involuntarily brought here.

Anyone else with me?

No I'm not with you.

I'm a black man who is descended from slaves. Yes they were brough here involuntarily. But it what happened since that matters.

My anscestors worked hard and contributed more to this country than anybody else. This country was built on their backs, and funded with their unpaid toil and labor. I would NEVER dishonor them by claiming this country isn't mine. If anything, because of the unpaid hell they went through I DEMAND to be considered an American. This damn country owes the descendants that much for what they did to those slaves.

Oh and another point....
The only thing that people's anscestors did was come here, and they get to be Americans. My anscestors went through a whole lot more and paid heck of higher price. If anything, black people have more of a right to be called American than anybody else because of the higher price paid.

Remember: Black people don't have to back down, or bow down to anyone over that shit! Unlike other races, we paid our dues to be here.

With all do respect, being a black man and a decendent of slaves...Not to discount the pain that black people have toiled to build this b%$#h...but if we wish to technical this country belongs to none of us because it is on land that was not ours to begin with. If it belongs to anybody...it should be native americans.

I think you've asked one of THE questions of African American existence.

I sort of see your point but...

But just like anywhere else, possesion really is nine-tenths of the law. In other words, yes the native americans where here here first, but they don't own it now.

The question he asked was about America as it stands now.

And when you think about how we've built this country, financed this country, contributed to it's popular culture, and worked to make the country a better place for everybody else, it could be argued that we are just as American if not MORE American than anyone else.

As a matter of fact, now that I think about it, your point sort of proves mine.
No white man can say he's more American than me because he wasn't originally from here either.

Your point well taken ... but, its really beyond argument. Its clearly established reality, the doubters confusion notwithstanding. Still, the reasoning used by those of US who disagree, is interesting.

I view myself as a person of the world instead of one with nationality. I've traveled quite a bit in life and felt just as comfortable abroad as at home (and often felt strong connections to various places).

Black people in America have no concept of what having a home country is. We are Americans who have never been given full status in this society. We have no political influence, and little economic influence. If we were trully Americans it would be possible to have a black president. That fact that it would be virtually impossible based on institutionalized racism in America.

Like Malcolm X said we are a nation within a nation. The black people of America have never been American this country was built to exploit us and has done so for the the last 3 centuries. We have more in common with each other then this country called America.

The reality of white dominance in this society clearly illustrates that we are not equal members of this society so we can consider ourselves American but in reality America is not OUR country. We need our own country established by us led by us. Ethnic minorities all over the world fight for their home the establishment of countries has been built on this neccessity. Unfortunatly as long as black america is under the delusion that they have been granted full access to this society and are on equal footing with white people we will never begin our journey to establish our own democracy.

This is the only endgame for the majority of black Americans who do not feel a connection to this society. The establishment of our own country that we can call home and take pride in. America is not that.

Interesting thoughts. Where do we build/establish this country you envision? Seriously?

I could care less about this nation of ours. I havent had the chance to see the world but I'm sure most 1st world places would be just as good to live in.

I think one of the best things about America is you can decide if you are American or not. Personally I don't see how if you were born here you can be anything else but it's a personal decision you can't do that in too many other countries. As to who this land belongs to I think it's interesting how in 100 yrs Indians or hispanics as they are known today, will be the majority race or will have reclaimed their land, it's almost as if a Higher Power is at work.

No not really.

Multiple black men killed last year by the police with eye witness testimony disgarded. They let us know in subtle ways what we are in this country.

Hell yeah I'm doing good here, so are others, but as a community forget about it.

The white americans make laws and decide how to enforce them.

I believe even the UN looked into the united states prison system. Why????? Cause it is the largest in the world, free or not, and minorities make up far to much of the people locked up.

Please!!!!! They let a few of us slip through the cracks of this racist country, but never us as a people. If they see that they just write a law or do some other shit.

Quick example of how we are really looked at AND DEALT WITH.

Sports!! White people tend to play baseball, tennis, hockey, golf. No age limit to turn pro, no dress code for the team sports and no debate about it.

Black folks tend to play football and basketball, but more the nba is a black league.

So what does white america do? HELP THE UNRULY NEGROS. WE TO DUMB TO TURN PRO EARLY LIKE OUR WHITE COUNTERPARTS SO WE NEED AGE LIMITS. WE TO DUMB TO DRESS OURSELVES LIKE OUR WHITE COUNTERPARTS IN BASEBALL WHO SPIT TOBACCO AND PUT THEIR FINGERS UP THEIR NOSE WHEN THEY DON'T PLAY IN A GAME.

Please..... We are not equal. Even the sports world blantantly shows us how we have no say so.

Shit hasn't stopped the game just has been modified. Theres more than one way to skin a cat and the ELITE WHITE RULERS still b a skinnin.

So they can fuck themselves and this country. This country is just a tool for me to use.
They show us everytime we mean shit to them, but from the get go they always used us. Used us for free labor and to fight their wars.

But come back here and its like FUCK YOU.

Bottom line this for yall. We make no laws in this country and no rules in anything major. We can make a lot of money, that's about it. And please don't talk about that vote shit.

Damn real! My family has 300 years on these shores! We have too much culture here, contributed too much. In fact if you remove the African American culture from the United States, you would have Europe.

Get involved and you will feel connected

I certainly don't call myself American.

This white-dominated, slave-financed, fake money country.

This is my land, but my land isn't America. It's mine.

Now, if Americans want to impose their will and law on me, I'll go along due to their superior might. But, it doesn't mean I won't assert my own sovereignty when circumstances are in my favor.

I concur. And what's twisted is because we're Americans, we can get more respect from people abroad from sheer nationality. But then, those people will disrespect our African brethren.

We have power. Our spending capacity and shouldn't take a civil rights leader to remind us of that privilege that change things. But we're still mind fucked: we shouldn't have to leave the ghettos to advance, but no one willing to refine the ghettos as a community, what have you?

People among people constantly struggling for "equality"

American? All day, Our forefathers have contributed too much to this nation for us not to claim a part of it. The 'American' experience only makes us stronger, as a people, however, it is up to each of us to ascend to new heights. Take all the politics out of this board and allow me to share some quotes with the board. I been reading this speech the last 2 weeks over & over. It's still true today!

"Before the victory's won, some would be misunderstood and called bad names and dismissed as rabble rousers and agitators, but we shall overcome.

And I tell you why: We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice".

Let me say finally that I oppose the war in Vietnam because...

I love America.

I speak out against this war, not in anger, but with anxiety and sorrow in my heart, and, above all, with a passionate desire to see our beloved country stand as the moral example of the world. I speak out against this war because I am disappointed with America.

And there can be no great disappointment where there is not great love.

And don't let anybody make you think that God chose America as his divine, messianic force to be a sort of policeman of the whole world.

God has a way of standing before the nations with judgment, and it seems that I can hear God saying to America, "You're too arrogant! And if you don't change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of your power, and I'll place it in the hands of a nation that doesn't even know my name. Be still and know that I'm God."
