Nevada boxing officials demand explanation from Floyd before issuing boxing license

By TMZ

Floyd Mayweather is NOT properly licensed to fight in Nevada on May 5 … despite having the judge’s blessing … and TMZ has learned state officials are demanding to speak with Floyd in person before they will allow him to fight. TMZ spoke with Keith Kizer — Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission — who tells us all fighters must apply for a license annually … but fighters with a conviction are sometimes required to plead their case to the commission in person.

Floyd was convicted of beating his baby mama last month … and Friday, he convinced the judge to delay his jail sentence so he could fight an unnamed opponent at the MGM Grand on May 5.

The next step is to apply for the license, but Kizer tells us it’s not uncommon for a fighter to begin the process just a few weeks before their first bout of the year. We’re told Floyd has been flagged for a face-to-face … if and when he applies.

“The commission looks at experience, integrity, character and skill to determine whether or not it’s appropriate to issue a license,” Kizer says.

And it ain’t a slam dunk either — the commission is known to REJECT applications … most famously denying Mike Tyson in 2002 after he was involved in a brawl at a NYC news conference.

Pacman wants Floyd but…

By Nick Giongco

Manny Pacquiao said on Saturday that he was delighted that Floyd Mayweather has been allowed to postpone his 90-day prison term, telling Fightnews and Manila Bulletin that a matchup with the undefeated American “is a better match.”

Coming a few days before Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum visits Manila to discuss Pacquiao’s next fight, Mayweather was permitted to defer his prison sentence so he can fulfill his obligations to fight on May 5 in Las Vegas. Arum will have four proposals that he will present to Pacquiao next week and among those being eyed for his much-awaited return to the ring are Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Miguel Cotto.

Now that Mayweather seems to be available, Pacquiao will raise the matter with Arum once they meet.

This latest development on Mayweather doesn’t actually guarantee that a proposed super showdown between the two claimants to the mythical title of pound-for-pound king can be easily made.

Even if Pacquiao has already agreed to two of Mayweather’s demands–Olympic-style testing and the smaller piece of the pie–Pacquiao said everything would still boil down to the negotiations.

“We’ll see if we can agree,” said Pacquiao from his native General Santos City.

Arum was surprised by the decision to favor Mayweather and the 80-year-old boxing figure cautioned everyone that it doesn’t mean that all roads lead to a Pacquiao-Mayweather duel on May 5.

There are several factors to consider according to Arum and one of them is the venue.

Mayweather is contracted to fight at the MGM Grand which can only sit 18,000 and Arum wants it to be held in a larger site.

A few weeks ago, Arum had revealed that a 40,000-capacity stadium can be put up on the Las Vegas strip to host the fight.

Reports from the US say that Mayweather is targeting a fight with Robert Guerrero or Saul Alvarez.

I just don't see Khan being ready for PBF. He just lost and would go into the fight as damaged goods. It could make a lot of money though. But it wouldn't make any sense other than PBF gets a fight with a stable mate at GBP. Which means an easy negotiation. Some fight out of left field is probably greater than Manny. Because the fighter will come from GBP which makes it an easy sale. Manny and PBF have ust too much baggage to make the deal. I could be wrong, but that is how I see it. My choice is Canelo. He will be the lamb led to the slaughter. It appears that he is green as hell and not ready. But he is a marketable foe and is a GBP fighter. So at least we will find out how PBF is going to do in his new weight class soon. I think the 147 days are over unless it is pac man. there just are not fights for him to make anymore. His only option are those three names as far as I can see.

You made the Manny thread and not a single fuck was given. Now you throw out a Mayweather thread like everyone is gonna jump in to your pool when there's already a 2 page thread on it. GTFOH!!:roflmao::roflmao:

I'll join in, buk.

I don't see him having a deadline to meet other than the one he imposed on himself. If Manny decides to fight him, he can fight him in May or later after he serves his sentence.

But if not Manny, Alvarez could get the fight or Martinez. We'll know by March at the latest.

:hmm:So you're the one with the conscience....we'll have to keep an eye on you.

Canelo is the only logical option. Mayweather had Golden Boy reserve the May 5 date in Vegas and Canelo is a Mexican title holder with Golden Boy that has a solid following.

I've known Robert and his publicist Mario for a decade or so now...and still wouldn't want to see that fight happen. I'm all for Rob getting his, but it doesn't benefit anyone else but him if that fight happens...well him and floyd's wallet...

I agree. Robert is a very good fighter but he has virtually no chance in this fight. And Floyd fighting ANOTHER 135lb'er?:smh:

Sergio Martinez willing to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in November

By Michael Collins: Responding to the comments Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently made about being open to fighting former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in which Mayweather said to Yahoo Sports writer Kevin Iole that he’d do the fight if it were at a 150lb catchweight, Martinez came out and accepted Mayweather’s offer by saying he’d like to fight him in November when he’s free.

In an interview at boxinginsider.com, Martinez said “I said 150 and I will keep my promise…I don’t have any problems in fighting at Jr. middleweight. Talk is cheap. Fight or shut up. November would be a good month. I would have enough time to reach 150 and you could be recovered from your holidays.”

It sounds like Martinez is trying not to sound too desperate for the fight. He obviously must badly want the fight because it will bring him in so much more money than what he’s been getting for his fights. Martinez faces contender Matthew Macklin on March 17th.

That’s a fairly safe fight for Martinez compared to some of the other top contenders that might be able to give him some trouble. By fighting on March 17th, it leaves very little time for Martinez to recover and get ready for a fight against Mayweather on May 5th.

Martinez is talking about having to take weight off to get to the 150lb catchweight that Mayweather is asking for. Martinez likely won’t be too beaten up after the Macklin fight, because it’s pretty much a mismatch. But taking off the weight will be hard for Martinez because he’s mostly muscle with very little fat.

Mayweather has been trying to land a fight against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, but he and his promoter Bob Arum haven’t been all that interested in the May 5th date with Mayweather.

So if Sergio isn't going to be ready to fight at May 5th. Then who is PBF going to fight? Because he isn't willing to make a 50/50 split with Manny.
