Who are the most intellegent, well-spoken rappers ?????

Mr. Met

I was listening to De La on the way home and thought about this in the wake of the Mos Def debacle on Bill Maher.

Maher is a bitch that knew what he was doing putting an arrogant condescending scholar like Christopher Hitchens up against Mos.

Too many in America still have this stereotype about rappers as street thugs that have no sense.

Just because you put the adjective in the wrong place dosen't make you an idiot, but sometimes it does.

There are some that can handle themselves in both spectrums and seperate their street persona and mainstream.

Let's start with the obvious.

Here are others.

Queen Latifah
Chubb Rock ( Ivy league educated )
Will Smith
50 Cent ( Hate him, but he can )
Heavy D
Fat Joe
De La especially Pos
Common

all I can think of now.........

- KRS-ONE

- Chubb Rock

- Paris

- Will Smith (Yeah, I know ... but .... Ok I mean he did rap and passed on a MIT Scholarship)

- Mos Def (When he's not breaking off into "nigga" mode)

- Talib Kweli (Both parents were College Profs so this comes as no surprise)

- Pos from De La Soul

- Cannibus (but he's not really rapping anymore)

- David Banner (when he's not breaking off into "nigga" mode)

- Luke Campbell (he's smarter than he tends to let on)

- Tradegy Kadifi aka Intelligent Hoodlum

I don't know where is his neck?
Or!
What tha fuck iz up with hiz shadez?

50 Cent ( Hate him, but he can )

You gotta love a 50 cent interview

I'm in a certain space in my life, where I can actually create the actual material with aggressive content. I kill my competition with my actual consistency.

actual, space, consistency, aggressive content are his favorite words

I agree with most of these but especially
-KRS
-Will Smith
-T.I. [maybe not as intelligent considering the gun charges but articulate than a muphucca]
-50 cent
-Ludacris...dont sleep
-Killer Mike
-Common
-David Banner...this dude is serious, what school did he graduate...Tuskegee??
-Will Smith
-Ice Cube..doesnt say much as far as the amount of words [from what I gather in interviews I've seen] BUT what he says counts...chooses his words very carefully.
-Queen Latifah

The rapper that I used to think should be in this category:
-Nas..I've heard this dude in about 3-4 interviews the most recent was him on the Foxxhole before the elections and brah...:smh:..there was no substance just a lot of canned phrases. I'm a Nas fan but listening to him makes YOU want the interview to be over..a lot of "ya know what I'm sayin" and shit.

This is a joke right?...His interviews are the worst (yaahhmsayin). He is one of the most non-articulate individuals of all (yahmsayin) time. Don't be fooled by the songs (nah meeen). I fucks wit Nas too, but thats just the truth ( yahmsayin)

fixed...

I cosign most of the names mentioned so far.

Except Nas and Jay...I am a huge fan of both, but in interviews they both lack their mic presence, especially Nas.

Chuck D should definately be on this list.

lemme also add bun-b and ludacris.

Killer Mike

He talks that street shit along with dropping knowledge.

true....

I'm also a little mixed on the RZA... dude has dropped some serious knowledge about the rap game in some of his interviews, but I've seen him good, and also real bad.

Some of you are confusing street talk and corner knowledge with how they articulate themselves in interviews.

Rakim? Jay? Nas? Even Chuck D.:smh:

These dudes can't command the King's English too well.

I've talked to him and read his interviews. Very wise cat.

A little preachy and full of herself, but also very well read and inspiring

Loses points for the mullet, but he did give me some of the best music advice ever when he was doing his historic PROPS magazine interview.

I'm pretty much agree with most if not all the choices. But I think that there is a big difference between being intelligent and debating. Granted you still have to be intelligent to debate. But debating requires preparation, you knowing your shit and attacking and exploiting points in your adversary's argument.
