In some states you can dispute the assessment.

Happened to us in Grant Park and other in-town neighborhoods, but those entitled hipsters weren't having it. They showed up and protested, and about 2 weeks later, we got letters saying that they were going to reassess our properties. Our tax bills ended up being lower.
