You're right. I actually had movies in my mind for examples and just didn't write them in. But you do have a good point about the balance of black and white violence. So let's look at O' Dog. He was just over the top psychotic. That was written to serve a narrative. He was truly a menace to society. As for killing the Asian store owner, that's more likely how and why black men could relate to his character, not so much the gangbanging. He's poor, his neighborhood is poor, but the asian who doesn't live there owns a store in that hood, takes their money, but doesn't respect them. Views them as flees. Talks down to them. A few years back, the woman i was in a relationship with a woman who needed a new car and wanted to show me, but felt when she went to the lot the salesmen hounded her and tried to play her. So one night we were driving past the dealership where the car was, and she wanted to show me while it was closed and no salesmen to hound us. We hop out and walk over the car. A car pulls up and an armed security guy gets out. White guy. He yells "Closed! Leave NOW!" No dialogue, just raw authority. I stand straight. He yells it again. I start walking toward him. You will never disrespect me like that. I can look at cars if i want to. How do you think they get sold?" She tries to stop it, but i felt like he was talking to me like the Chinese store owner. Like i'm nothing! To us, we were browsing. To him, it was showdown! "LEAVE NOWWWW-UH!" I just stare at him. He calls the actual police and they arrive quickly. They walk up. I'm still not scared. I tell the cop "All he has to say was the lot doesn't allow browsing after hours." Turns out, they do. The only rule is, because they were high end cars, you cannot drive onto the lot after hours, and i had parked on the lot. Long short, they agreed with me. My lady then asks in the car "Why did you do all that? We should have just left. You made that way more than it had to be" I did. But he needed to know that flashing lights on the roof of a Ford Focus doesn't give him the right to shit all over me. I had to punk him. So i did. She was mixed (asian and white, mostly white) A black woman would immediately know why i punked him. It was the WAY he said, in front of my lady. She really wanted that car, and was so giddy about showing it to me, and dude tried to pull both our cards. I couldn't allow it. The reaction was almost immediate. My animus toward him was purely about race. He was white with a gun, and i wanted to let him know there was no backdown in me. That today, on this car lot, will be just the day in grade school that made you wanna become a cop.
