Whew, so many good ones. don't forget vaughn mason and cameo bit off of already done bass lines. james jamerson was sick with it. but only one so, I gotta go with the best R & B bassist of all time:
Peeps need to understand that the reason The Sugarhill Gang chose "Good Times" by Chic as the bassline for "Rapper's Delight" was because that was THE bassline of rap music PERIOD, no matter what party you went to from 1979 forward for some 5-7 years straight "Good Times" was the bassline that ALL MCs would rap over, DJs literally had to end up buying 4,6, even 8 copies of the record because it would SERIOUSLY get worn out to the point where you would only hear static and not words or music!!! (I went thru 6 myself!)
And for the house heads, a bassline that got mad play @ hip hop parties because the song was included on Super Disco Breaks Vol. 3 (a series of albums that ALL hip hop DJs HAD to have) it contained the seminal hip hop beat Apache as its first track, it also had the song called "Bra" by the British group Cymande.
30 years later, and I have yet to hear a sicker bassline
